How to go fishing, get plenty of Fish Fillets, and find all fish in Windrose.
Fishing in Windrose is an activity you won't be able to do right away, but as is to be expected from the survival-crafting pirate adventure, there's plenty of fishing to be done in your future. That's because, once unlocked, Fish Fillets are a very reliable and easy to acquire source of food. And you need a lot of food in Windrose…
With that in mind, here's everything you need to know about Windrose fishing, including how to get a Fishing Rod, how to get more Fish Fillets, and all Fish you can catch.
On this page:
How to get a Fishing Rod in Windrose
The Fishing Rod recipe is unlocked after discovering Hardwood in the Foothills region. This is the second region you'll encounter in Windrose, and you'll be sent here following the 'Revenge is Best Served Cold' Main Quest. Here's my guide on exactly how to get to Foothills if you're yet to reach the area.
Upon discovering Hardwood in Foothills for the first time (here's where to find Hardwood if you're struggling), the Simple Fishing Rod recipe will then be available to craft at a Workbench. It requires five Hardwood, three Rope, and two Iron Ingots.
Now that you finally have a Fishing Rod, it's time to start fishing.
How to go fishing in Windrose
Fishing is pretty straight-forward in Windrose. First, find some water to fish in! Next, put your new Fishing Rod into your hotbar and equip it as you would a weapon or tool, then left-click to cast your line into the water.
Keep a careful eye on the end of your Fishing Rod until there's a big splash and your bait is taken underwater, which indicates a fish has become hooked. Left-click again to begin reeling in the fish and it's as simple as that. There's no fishing mini-games or games of tug of war with your catch; simply left-click once a fish bites, and the fish is all yours.
How to get Fish Fillets in Windrose
Once you catch a fish in Windrose, right-click it while it's in your inventory to quickly turn it into a Fish Fillets.
Fish Fillets are a reliable resource for cooking, allowing you to make meals such as Chowder or Fish and Tostones that are always necessary while adventuring around Windrose's islands.
Your average small fish, such as a Blue Tang or Reef Snapper, will only wield between two and four Fish Fillets per catch. Much bigger fish however, such as the Giant Mackerel, can wield over 10 Fish Fillets.
In my experience, I was also able to catch all of the fish listed below while standing on the coast of the Foothills island I was on; fish do not appear to have any specific spawn locations at the time of writing.
It's also worth noting that fish do not produce a set amount of Fish Fillets. Instead, they'll produce an amount of Fish Fillets within a specific range depending on their rarity. On top of that, once you catch one of each fish, you'll unlock the Minor Fisherman Ring which allows you to catch 15% more fish (and therefore produce more Fish Fillets). There's more on the fish you need to catch for this below!
