Fertile Soil in Windrose is a resource that is easily missed, but this Foothill Discovery is very important to seek out if you wish to set up Seedbeds and start building your own farm. Having your own farm is convenient given just how often you'll need food – and the buffs from it – to help you while exploring or clearing out enemy camps.

With that said, here's how to get Fertile Soil in Windrose, and how to use it to set up Seedbeds and start farming.

Fertile Soil is found in and around Ancient Farm and Ancient Village POIs in the Foothills region. If you're yet to visit this area and are still in the Coastal Jungle, take a look at my guide on how to reach the Foothills for some pointers on how to get there quickly and safely.

Fertile Soil is, in my experience, found in planters that surround the ruined buildings that make up Ancient Farm and Village POIs (pictured above). It looks just like dirt and you can collect it using a Copper Pickaxe or better.

You'll just want to be cautious of any hostile Wolves or Goats while you go searching for it, as these creatures tend to frequent these POIs.

Once you gather some Fertile Soil, you'll unlock the Foothills Discovery for it, which gives you access to various recipes under the 'Farming' tab of your Building Panel menu.

How to set up Seedbeds in Windrose

After gathering Fertile Soil and unlocking its associated recipes in the Building Panel menu, you'll now be able to build Seedbeds and start your very own farming operation. Simply open the Building Panel, select the 'Farming' tab', and then select and begin placing Seedbeds to get started.

Provided you have some Seeds stowed away, you'll also be able to plant any crops you've found so far within these Seedbeds using the Building Panel. They'll then slowly grow over time for you to harvest and replant them.

Using Seedbeds saves you needing to gather the likes of Flax, Tomatoes, Bananas and so forth during your adventure, as you can now grow them yourself.

All crops in Windrose (that use a Seedbed)

If you don't yet have Seeds, you'll need to forage crops from around Windrose's islands until the plants randomly drop them.

To help with this, I've listed all crops in Windrose that require a Seedbed to grow below. It's worth noting – if you haven't yet noticed – that some crops such as Shrubs can be planted without a Seedbed.
