While Pokemon Legends: Z-A didn't give players the option of starting their game with the original Gen 6 starters, that doesn't mean you can't still acquire them. As was shown in promotional trailers for Z-A, not only are Froakie, Fennekin, and Chespin in the game, but they also have brand-new Mega forms.
Pokemon Legends: Z-A - Complete Mable's Research Guide
Completing Mables's Research in Pokemon Legends: Z-A is how you're going to unlock those coveted TMs like Rock Smash and Surf.
Thankfully, you won't have to wait long to catch them either. While they're not roaming about in any of the initial Wild Zones, each of the Gen 6 starters is tied to a side mission that is unlocked after reaching Rank X. However, the map won't tell you what the side mission is until you seek it out for yourself.
Where To Find Fennekin
As mentioned, the earliest and easiest way to get Fennekin is by completing a side mission that becomes available after reaching Rank X. Once you are promoted to Rank X, you'll need to complete the fifth main mission titled 'The City In The Shadow Of Prism Tower' before new side missions become available.
Once they are unlocked, you'll see them appear as exclamation point icons on your map. Although they won't be identifiable from this view, the side mission you're looking for is 'Get Well, Fennekin' and can be found in the middle of Magenta Sector 2, which is near the center of the map, on the northwestern side.
How To Complete Get Well, Fennekin
When you head over here, you'll find a woman named Branche standing next to a sick Fennekin. She needs help healing it and asks you to check with the herbalist, who can be found at Café Classe.
The Café can be found on the main road that leads from the southernmost portion of the map to the center. Specifically, it is part of the Vert Sector 4 building and is directly across from the Vernal Pokemon Center.
The man you need to speak with will be sitting outside the Café. He will instruct you that the best thing you can give Fennekin is a Revitalizing Twig, which can be found in Wild Zone 5. Unfortunately, the area the twig is in is a bit tedious to reach.
To find the twigs, you have two options. You can either head into the Wild Zone through one of the other entrances and then look for an area with water that is blocked off by sludge, which will lead you down some stairs and through a tunnel to the area you need to reach, or you can go the more direct route.
Regardless of which path you take to get there, you'll need to clear sludge to reach the twigs. To do this, have one of your Pokemon use a water move.
To enter the area directly, go to Bleu Sector 3, which is the building directly south of Wild Zone 5. Here, you can find a path blocked off by sludge. Once you clear it, continue following this path, and you will eventually be led to an entrance to Wild Zone 5 in a tunnel. The area you enter is where you need to find the Twig.
There will be an Alpha Pokemon in this area, Alpha Whirlipede, but you can easily avoid it if you're not ready to battle it yet. There will be five twigs in this area you'll need to collect, with each indicated by a glowing red sparkle. Four of them will be regular twigs, and one will be the one you need, but it doesn't matter what order you grab them in.
No matter which twig you collect first, the one you need will always be the last one you pick up. So you must pick up all five.
Once you have the Revitalizing Twig, return to Branche and Fennekin. The twig will restore Fenniken, after which point Branche will suggest you keep it. This will officially unlock Fennekin in your Pokedex and add it to your boxes.
Where To Catch Wild Fennekin
While the side mission is the easiest and quickest way to unlock Fennekin, there are Wild Zones in Legends: Z-A where you can find them. Unfortunately, they can only be found in Wild Zone 18, which doesn't unlock until you've made significant progress in the game.
Fennekin spawn in Wild Zone 18 during the day and night, so you should have no problem finding them regardless of when you begin looking for them.
So, while this is an alternative method to catch one and gives you more options when it comes to nature and stats, it's probably not the best idea if you're intending to use Delphox throughout the majority of the game.
How To Evolve Fennekin Into Delphox
Since Fennekin is a starter Pokemon, it only evolves through leveling, and luckily, the level requirements aren't too high. For a breakdown of Fennekin's evolutionary line, please see the table below:

Keep in mind that evolutions in Pokemon Legends Z-A are manual. This means they won't automatically evolve upon reaching the required level. Instead, you'll need to pay attention and look for the yellow arrow next to them in your menu, which indicates they are ready to be evolved.
How To Get Delphoxite To Mega Evolve Delphox
Unfortunately, as of this time, there is only one way to obtain Delphoxite, which is needed to Mega Evolve Delphox. It cannot be found through traditional gameplay and must instead be earned by competing in online ranked battles, also known as Z-A's Battle Club, specifically during season two.
As these are online battles, you will need an active Nintendo Switch Online membership to participate.
Season one of ranked battles will reward players with Greninjite, season two will reward Delphoxite, and season three will reward Chesnaughtite. At this time, season one is ongoing, which means Delphoxite simply cannot be obtained right now. It was also confirmed that the Gen 6 Mega Stones will be available as rewards in future seasons as well.
So, to obtain Delphoxite, you'll need to keep an eye on the ranked battle seasons and their rewards. When the season is taking place, you'll then need to participate and reach at least Rank K to obtain the stone. You can do this at any point in the season and will be awarded the stone immediately upon meeting the requirements, not at the end of the season.
