While there may only be 230 Pokemon in the base Pokedex in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, there are dozens of viable teams you can use during the game's final act and postgame. You will not be able to get certain Pokemon, like the best Ground-type in Z-A, before you reach the later sections of the game, so some teams will require further patience and effort to put together.

Unlike the best early-game team builds, you'll have access to some of the strongest Pokemon in Lumiose City for these party compositions. Decide between a team themed around Legendary and Starter Pokemon or opt for a blend of busted Mega Evolutions in these top-tier endgame teams.

Updated February 14, 2026, by Andrew Scariati: We've added one more option to help with the base game's final section, along with another to use in the Mega Dimension DLC. Choose your favorite option from some of the best Pokemon Legends: Z-A teams available.

The Best In Their Class

Best Late Game Teams Option A in the menu of Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

Charizard

Feraligatr

Garchomp

Gardevoir

Krookodile

Scizor

This team provides classic Fire and Water Mega Evolutions to lead the way, with Charizard and Feraligatr both capable of providing early pressure or sweeping up.

You should use Mega Charizard Y, since Garchomp already provides the requisite Dragon-type coverage that this team appreciates.

Aside from the starter choices that you're able to level up from very early in your adventure, Gardevoir and Garchomp are both available by the time you reach Wild Zone 8.

You can even get Gardevoir earlier than you'd expect if you claim the Ralts & Gardevoirite Mystery Gift via an internet connection.

Scizor and Krookodile each offer a deadly combination of powerful coverage moves and the ability to hit opponents first – Krookodile via its high base Speed and Scizor via the quickness of Bullet Punch.

Krookodile overlaps with Garchomp's Ground typing, so you can switch it out for another Dark-type Pokemon, like Tyranitar or Absol, if you'd prefer.

A Mixed Kalos Roster

Best Late Game Teams Option B in the menu of Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

Delphox

Dragonite

Feraligatr

Lucario

Xerneas

Yveltal

If you want to stay true to the spirit of the Kalos region for your postgame team, then this combination of six Pokemon stays true to the region without simply shoving six Pokemon from it together.

Delphox, Xerneas, and Yveltal all debuted in Kalos, so there's a strong connection to its roots via the starter and legendary duo. Delphox is an extremely powerful Fire-type worth using, even if you prefer using Greninja, and it fits in perfectly with the rest of the team composition.

Feraligatr, Dragonite, and Lucario all received their Mega Evolutions and can be used to counter the game's main Rogue Pokemon gimmick, so they offer a strong regional connection in addition to their utility.

Lucario might be one of the most iconic Mega Pokemon ever, thanks to its impressive offensive stats, with mixed attacking capabilities and a varied moveset to support its strong stats.

Mega Evolving Attackers

Best Late Game Teams Option C in the menu of Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

Gengar

Hawlucha

Metagross

Starmie

Tyranitar

Victreebel

If you want a team that offers Mega Evolution threats in every slot, then this team composition might be one of the best combinations possible. The options also steer away from a strictly pseudo-legendary and starter-based team makeup, offering more variety while still prioritizing viability.

Mega Starmie might be aesthetically divisive, but its powerful Water-type damage is incredibly good in most scenarios, while Victreebel, Tyranitar, and Metagross each effectively cover two types thanks to their incredibly strong movepools.

There's some Psychic-type overlap between Starmie and Metagross, so those are the easiest to replace if you'd prefer to use other options.

Legends & Starters

Pokemon Legends Z-A Best Late Game Teams Option D 7

Charizard

Greninja

Venusaur

Xerneas

Yveltal

Zygarde

Starter Pokemon and legendaries are typically some of the strongest options, so this team prioritizes power over creativity, constructing a powerful core that can easily overcome any obstacle.

Mega Charizard Y can provide a much-needed Flying-type backup to Yveltal, while Mega Charizard X is overkill when you already have Zygarde's unmatched Dragon-type movepool to throw at your foes. You can use either, but Y provides more essential variety.

Greninja is an excellent Pokemon that can fit into any team and is especially necessary to fit into this team's theme, but you'll primarily be including it for the Water-type damage, considering Yveltal should have the Dark-type matchups locked down.

The Underdogs

Best Late Game Teams Option E in the menu of Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

Aggron

Delphox

Gardevoir

Salamence

Scrafty

Starmie

This team veers away from the standard options in favor of secondary choices that remain among the top three or four options among their type peers.

The affectionately named Underdogs are primarily led by Gardevoir, who stands out as a top-tier Psychic and Fairy-type option, followed by some variance that's likely due to not being done with the game yet.

You'll most likely use this team before you finish the final trio of Rogue Mega Pokemon, and it features Pokemon like Scrafty and Salamence that can be acquired well before the final stretch of the story.

Starmie and Delphox return to help round out an extremely solid core, while Aggron fills in as a Steel and Rock-type attacker that can help keep Flying and Ice-type Pokemon at bay.

Strength & Style Points

Best Late Game Teams Option F in the menu of Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

Charizard

Gardevoir

Greninja

Lucario

Tyrantrum

Victreebel

We all love using Pokemon with aesthetically pleasing designs, so if you're just looking for Pokemon that value their stylish appearance as much as their impressive strength, then this is the team for you.

Mega Charizard Y and Tyrantrum form a powerful, complementary core to keep the offensive pressure on your opponents, while Victreebel can fill in as an excellent utility option that can self-heal better than most other options.

Speaking of self-healing, Gardevoir functions as a powerful lead Pokemon, thanks to its ability to heal any damage it sustains via Draining Kiss.

Lucario is a superb Pokemon to use in tandem with Gardevoir as either a ranged (Special) or melee (Physical) attacker, thanks to its excellent base stat spread.

Overall, this team provides some of the best damage and utility you can find without finishing the game, and might even find success online in addition to its viability in most NPC fights.

If you don't want to use Legendary Pokemon but still want to feel like your team is borderline overpowered, this team composition will fit the bill.

Base Game Finale Team

A Late Game Battle Team Option G in Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

Dragonite

Feraligatr

Gardevoir

Heracross

Lucario

Tyranitar

This is arguably the strongest Pokemon Legends: Z-A team to take on the last battles of the base game, built around an incredibly strong and diverse set of choices.

Dragonite, Feraligatr, Heracross, and Lucario are all capable of functioning as superb leads or sweepers, giving you an unprecedented level of flexibility for how you want to approach each fight.

Gardevoir and Tyranitar are arguably two of the best sweepers you can add to your lineup, with softened-up opponents guaranteed to struggle for survival against these incredibly potent attackers.

Take On The Mega Dimension DLC

A Late Game Battle Teams Option H in Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

Charizard

Garchomp

Gardevoir

Greninja

Lucario

Meganium

If you want a team to bring from the endgame of Legends: Z-A's base story into the Mega Dimension DLC, this setup will provide an excellent selection of choices with access to powerful Mega Evolutions.

Lucario stands out as the most exciting option, thanks to gaining access to its Mega Z form in the DLC.

Charizard, Gardevoir, Garchomp, and Greninja are all immensely powerful attackers for their given types, each with powerful Mega Evolutions that elevate them to new heights. Charizard has access to X or Y, but Mega Charizard Y will fit better in this particular team composition.

Meganium is a superb tank and pivot Pokemon who can help you bide for time while you heal your more offensively potent Pokemon, or can whittle down opposing Pokemon's HP while sustaining its own by using Giga Drain.

Between the variety of Mega Evolutions and coverage moves, this team offers essential flexibility for any fight you'll face in the early portion of the DLC.
