Pokemon Legends: Z-A may not have the biggest roster for a Pokemon game, but it will ask you to raise a variety of teammates for many of the game's optional side quests, or to complete objectives within the nightly Z-A Royale.

If you're raising a lot of Pokemon, you may quickly run out of EXP Candies. If that's the case, you've come to the right place. Below, we'll take a look at some of the best places to farm EXP in Legends Z-A at each stage of the game, and some tips to keep in mind throughout the whole experience.

Tips For Farming EXP

Before we get into the best spots to farm EXP in the early, mid, and late game, let's go over some things you can take advantage of at any point in the game to boost your EXP gain.

The most important thing is to max out the Red Canari Plush as soon as possible. At max level, this Plush increases the EXP your Pokemon gain by 15 percent. You'll need a total of 16 Colorful Screws to max out the Plush, which you can get from exploring scaffolding around the city.

Once you unlock Quasartico a bit into the game (at Rank V), you'll also be able to trade in all the Mega Shards you've been collecting for EXP Candy S. These give a fairly small amount of experience, but it can add up as you naturally collect Mega Shards. If you max out the Pink Canari Plush, you can get even more Mega Shards.

While you can't get it until after you beat the game, the Lucky Egg is another powerful tool to assist with leveling. When holding a Lucky Egg, the Pokemon will gain twice as much EXP from battles, but not from EXP Candies.

Best Early Game EXP Farms

EXP is abundant for your main party in the early game, but if you need more, there are some things you can do. If you haven't unlocked Quasartico and the Mega Shard exchange yet, your options are pretty limited.

The best way to grind up EXP is to simply farm the Z-A Royale. Take on every trainer you see, and put underleveled Pokemon in the back of your party. You can sit at a bench near any Pokemon Center to instantly make it nighttime for continuous farming.

Additionally, you can grind up some EXP Candies by knocking out Alpha Pokemon. These Pokemon, characterized by their larger size and glowing red eyes, have a chance to appear in most Wild Zones, and always drop some EXP Candies when defeated.

You can also try to catch the defeated Alpha for a bit of extra EXP for your party.

Best Mid Game EXP Farms

After unlocking the Mega Shard exchange at Quasartico, your EXP farming options open up quite a bit more. While you can still grind the Z-A Royale and farm Alphas, a better option is to instead farm Mega Shards, then trade them in for EXP Candies.

With the Pink Canari Plush at level three, you can get a ton of Mega Shards by simply running around the outside of Prism Tower in the center of the city. These seem to take around 10 minutes to respawn, but there are other options around the city for farming Shards, typically on rooftops or near areas where Rogue Mega Evolved Pokemon are or once were.

Best Late Game EXP Farms

In the post-game, you'll finally have access to some of the best EXP farming methods in the game. After beating the main story, you'll be able to complete Side Mission 109 to get the Lucky Egg. Give this to the Pokemon you're trying to level up.

At this point, Quasartico's Mega Shard exchange will also expand, allowing you to trade in Shards for the M and L sizes of EXP Candies, which give significantly more EXP than S ones.

The best way to farm EXP Candies, however, is to participate in the Infinite Z-A Royale. Now, every time you get a Challenge Ticket, you can take on a Reward Match at Quasartico. Every time you win one of these, you'll not only get a random reward, but some EXP Candies depending on your win streak.

Here's a breakdown of just how much EXP Candy you can get with each win.

You'll get these rewards with every Reward Match victory, which lets you really rake in the EXP Candies and stock up for any potential leveling-up you may need to do.

Keep in mind that if you lose even a single match, your win streak will drop back to zero. Bring your best team with you into each Reward Match to ensure victory and keep your streak going!

In addition, all the other methods for farming EXP still apply, so you can grind Alphas or simply battle a ton of trainers in the Z-A Royale if that suits your fancy.
