Perhaps one of the most difficult Pokemon to track down and catch in nearly every Pokemon game is Abra, and Pokemon Legends: Z-A is no exception to this. As always, Abra is easily startled, and you'll only have one shot to attempt to catch it before it disappears.

Grab a Gastly early, and you'll have a Gengar in no time.

Thankfully, however, Abra are plentiful throughout Lumiose, which means you can always move on to the next one if you don't manage to catch the first couple you attempt. Plus, Abra happens to spawn in one of the initial Wild Zones, so you won't even need to wait long to start tracking them down.

Where To Find Abra

When you initially gain access to the Wild Zones in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, you'll have access to zones 1–5. You can explore these in any order, and each one will contain a variety of different Pokemon that you can see directly from map view, once you've seen them at least once in-game.

Luckily, Abra can be found in Wild Zone 5, so you'll be able to catch one as soon as you have the freedom to explore. Specifically, they'll be found on the rooftops of Zone 5, which you can take a ladder inside the Wild Zone to reach.

As mentioned, Abra are not an easy catch, and that has been true going all the way back to the Gen 1 games. If startled, they will immediately disappear, so if you want to catch one, you'll need to be sneaky. Secondly, even if you do manage to hit one with a Poke Ball, you need to catch it on the first throw. If the catch is not successful, Abra will pop back out and disappear.

For good measure, you can always use a specialized Poke Ball, like an Ultra Ball, to increase your odds of a successful catch.

Thankfully, since the Abra are in a starting area, they're pretty low leveled and are more likely to catch on the first throw. Therefore, you shouldn't have a problem catching one during your first run through the Wild Zone.

How To Evolve Abra Into Alakazam

Trade Screen in Pokemon Legends Z-A

Unfortunately, while evolving Abra into Kadabra requires basic leveling, Alakazam requires trading. Since Pokemon Legends: Arceus lacked trading, there was an item available that allowed players to evolve trade-evolution Pokemon on their own, but that has since been done away with in Legends: Z-A.

If you want to skip a step, you can catch Kadabra as well, once you have access to Wild Zone 9.

So, to get Alakazam early on in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, you will need to trade a Kadabra to someone using Pokemon Legends: Z-A's Link Play feature and have them trade it back. For a complete breakdown of the Abra to Alakazam evolution process, please see the table below:

Where To Catch Alakazam

Wild Zone 20 in Pokemon Legends Z-A

If you're absolutely not interested in trading with anyone or simply don't have someone you can trust to trade with, there is still a way to get Alakazam to complete your Pokedex. Once you unlock all the available Wild Zones, you will be able to find Alpha Alakazam spawning in Wild Zone 20 on occasion.

The spawn can happen day or night, but it is a rare spawn, so you may need to refresh the area several times to find one. Once you do, defeat it and capture it, and you'll have obtained an Alakazam without the hassle of trading.

Of course, Wild Zone 20 is basically at the end of the game, so if you're hoping to use Alakazam throughout Z-A, you may want to search Discord or Reddit for someone to trade with so you can utilize it throughout your playthrough.

Where To Find Alakazite To Mega Evolve Alakazam

While some Mega evolutions require you to wait until you stumble on that Pokemon in a Rogue Mega battle, Alakazam is thankfully not one of those. As soon as you gain access to Quasartico Inc., which is after reaching Rank F, you will have the option to trade Mega Shards for Mega Evolution Stones.

While the collection of stones that are available in this shop will increase as you progress through the game, Alakazite is luckily one of the ones available right away, but it is also one of the most expensive. You will need 360 Mega Shards to trade for an Alakazite, but given how many Mega Shards are all over the city, this shouldn't be too difficult to accomplish.

Once you have the Alakazite, simply add Alakazam to your party and give it the Alakazite to hold so you can utilize its Mega Evolution in battles.
