During a recent investor Q&A, TV Tokyo, one of the rights holders for the Naruto anime, confirmed that there are plans for a new video game to celebrate the franchise's 25th anniversary in 2027 and beyond.
Even though it really hasn't been that long since the last Naruto game, 2023's Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections, it certainly feels like the franchise as a whole has been on the sidelines as of late. The Boruto anime hasn't had a new episode in years, the manga is updated far less frequently, and many of the projects we know about have been in the works for a long time without many updates.
It's the world of video games where Naruto's hiatus is most heavily felt, though, with Connections coming and going and Shinobi Striker plodding along with regular updates without much fanfare. It doesn't help that other beloved franchises like Dragon Ball, Bleach, and Demon Slayer have had much more frequent gaming releases, but it sounds like that might soon change.
TV Tokyo Says It Has A New Naruto Game Planned For The 25th Anniversary
It's The "Start Of A New Phase" For Naruto
As pointed out by Game Rant, TV Tokyo, one of the primary owners of the Naruto anime, held an investor Q&A earlier this month, which included some notable mentions of the series' 25th anniversary next year. During the call, TV Tokyo was asked about its plans for Naruto in 2027 to tie into the big date.
Naruto x Boruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections Review - More Than Just A Stop-Gap
Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections might not be Storm 5, but its excellent special story and improved fighting mechanics make for another great entry.
According to DeepL's translation, TV Tokyo said that it views the 25th anniversary as "the start of a new phase", which it's going to capitalise on with "several projects". This includes "films and games developed by new partners", which are planned to be released in 2027 and beyond.
I'm praying that the teased game doesn't just end up being a mobile title of sorts. Give us a proper Naruto RPG!
While the investor call sadly didn't reveal anything else about the planned projects, it does at least confirm that more Naruto games are planned for the future, even if they very likely won't have CyberConnect2's involvement. As for what kind of game we might see, that's entirely up in the air, but the mention of "new partners" does suggest it's going to be a different type of game than Ultimate Ninja Storm.
