Kaer Morhen

After the opening cutscene, Geralt finds himself in Kaer Morhen, the last remaining stronghold of the Witchers. This walkthrough will guide you through Kaer Morhen, and include tips on navigating the area, finding Ciri, and assisting in her training.

Find the Key

Using Geralt’s Witcher Senses, look around the room until you locate the key (outlined in red) on the book sitting atop the desk near the door. Before leaving, Geralt can collect several items from the various chests and bookshelves around the room, or engage Yennefer in conversation. If he talks to Yennefer, regardless of the chosen dialogue, she will firmly yet politely send him on his way. Pick up the key off the desk, then open the large doors next to it and proceed down the steps to trigger the next interaction.

Reach the Lower Level

After discussing Ciri’s training with Vesimir, head down to the pendulums to talk to Ciri. After discussing her technique, you can either accept her offer to race the walls, or proceed directly down to the central courtyard for weapons training.

If you choose to race Ciri across the ramparts, follow her lead and climb the ladder ahead of you. Follow the path indicated via objective markers and make your way up the scaffold. Climb from the scaffold onto the castle wall, now on your left, then drop down to the next level and make a U-turn. Climb down the ladder ahead of you on your left, then down the next ladder at the bottom of the stairs ahead of you. Turn right at the base of the ladder and jump across the gap in the stone walkway, then continue along the wooden scaffold to your right. Follow the stairs downwards until you reach the final ladder - climb down that ladder before Ciri does, to win the race.

Combat Training

Make your way down to the lower courtyard with Ciri and talk to Vesimir. Here, Geralt will have the option to either forgo the basic combat tutorial or review the basics of swordplay. Choosing to skip the basics will begin a free-form sword exercise, where Geralt can practice against Vesimir until he chooses to stop.

If Geralt opts to review the basics, Vesimir will go over the minutiae of simple swordplay. Follow the on-screen tutorials and prompts to learn how to perform basic quick and strong attacks, parry incoming blows and cast a variety of Signs that Witchers use to gain an edge in combat.

Once the training session is complete, a cutscene will begin and the tutorial chapter will end. Your next task will send you to White Orchard, an opening zone that is quite large in size with much to do and explore!
