Control Resonant The Underpass Resonant walkthrough
Where to find the Astral Keys.
'The Underpass Resonant' mission sees you travelling to the Astral Plane (or at least part of it) in Control Resonant. There you'll find three key locations, so you can reach The Physicist which, unsurprisingly, is the Underpass Resonant itself. No where is safe from the patterning it seems… If you need a hand completing this mission, then take a look at my 'The Underpass Resonant' walkthrough down below.

Control Resonant The Underpass Resonant walkthrough
'The Underpass Resonant' mission is unlocked by reporting the 'Interdimensional Breach' in the Underpass to Zoe. You'll most likely do this during your first trip to the Underpass in the 'Recursions and Iterations' mission. Yet, at the time, it's doubtful you'll be powerful enough to take on the mission's boss. For this reason, I recommend completing 'The Underpass Resonant' shortly after you've unlocked the Unknown. You should be powerful enough by then (or at least only a couple of upgrades away) and the abilities it unlocks will come in handy in the Unknown.
With that in mind, here's a rundown of every objective in 'The Underpass Resonant' mission:
- See where the spire leads.
- Investigate the Astral Plane.
- Find the key and unlock the door.
- Find the key and unlock the second door.
- Find the key and unlock the third door.
- Investigate the Astral Plane.
- Kill the Astral Plane Resonant.
1. See where the spire leads.
Whether you're in the Underpass or not, the spire can be easily reached by first fast travelling to, well, The Spire. From there, you can easily climb up the side of the spire - occasionally having to deal with the Hiss - until you reach the Astral Plane.
2. Investigate the Astral Plane.
If you played the original Control, then the Astral Plane will be quite the familiar setting. Reaching it by especially climbing through a magical roof in a magical basement less so. To figure out what's going on in the Astral Plane, you need to climb the pillars directly in front of you from the hole you entered by.
From there, float across to the nearby wall before Shifting onto its gravitational plane. Head up this wall before floating across to the next directly in front of you. There you'll once again have to use Shift.
Now you might have noticed this already but, due to the nature of the Astral Plane, it can be a little hard to tell when and where you can Shift onto. (Something which can lead to some accidental death falls if you're not careful.) The general rule, however, is to stay in the areas which have the remains of an apartment on them. You will always be able to Shift onto these sections and, if you wonder off them, then there's a chance Dylan will find himself in a freefall.
Continuing on with your journey through the Astral Plane, you'll want to run to the end of this new walkway. Next, follow the floor scribbles until you reach a locked door. (There's a collectible along the way which will give you some insight into what's been going on here.) When you reach the door, however, you'll discover it to be locked! Oh no! Time to find a key I guess.
3. Find the key and unlock the door.
Step one in finding the key involves jumping across to the platform to the left of the door itself. (Well left if you're standing looking at the door.) You'll easily spot this location thanks to the section of ruined apartment close to the steps leading to the door looking like it was once connected to the continued apartment ruins on the platform itself.
At the end of this platform, there will be another spot where you'll need to jump and float over to. Once you reach the top of this new platform, you'll see a resource chest. Don't get too excited though! Opening it will unleash some Astral Spikes (or, as I call them, angry bricks) who need defeating.
With those monsters taken care of, continue following the apartment remains and scribbles until you reach another resource chest. Dodge backwards the moment you open this one or else Dylan might get speared. These spears will continue to appear in this area, but, thanks to them making it pretty obvious where they plan to appear, are easy to avoid.
What I recommend doing is running to the area past the resource chest. From there, you can jump across to a platform to the right. This is technically in the same area but doing so one) allows you to grab some health and two) puts you in a great position to see where you need to go next.
And that place is another section of wall covered in apartment ruins. You know what to do now - go and Shift onto it. At the top of this wall section, you'll find the key. Now all you have to do is retrace your steps back to the door. There is a handy shortcut to the lower area nearby, which I recommend taking.
4. Find the key and unlock the second door.
What? There's another locked door! Who knew? (I did. I knew.) Guess it's time to explore the Astral Plane once again. For this key, head to the platform which is roughly half way down from the door and to the left of the entrance to the Underpass.
Here the navigational process is very much the same as before; you'll need to do a combination of jumping and Shifting onto areas containing either the ruined apartment or the white scribbles.
You'll also encounter another troublesome resource chest. This time the chest will teleport away whenever you get close and you will need to follow it to progress this part of the mission so no shortcuts! Eventually, you'll corner the resource chest but it will have the last laugh by summoning some more Astral Spikes.
With the angry bricks mortared, jump across to the next section of apartment remains to the right-hand side of the platform you fought the monsters on. (Jump atop the higher section of this platform if you can't see where you need to go.) Taking this path will lead to a Health Upgrade Point and, after crossing another gap, the next key. Don't worry about the resource chests here. They are, indeed, resource chests.
It's now time to retrace your steps once again. Luckily, you can cut down on the backtracking by jumping down to a lower platform from the one containing the key. Time to head back to the door, I'm sure we won't have to find another key…
5. Find the key and unlock the third door.
Oh would you look at that… Great… For this third, and hopefully final, key run to the very end of the platform containing the door. There you'll be able to jump across to another platform. You definitely know the drill by now - follow the apartment ruins and use Shift to stay connected to gravity. Reaching this key can be a little tricky though, but I'm here to tell you what to do.
First, you need to continue forward until you reach what looks like a spawn point. Sadly, as the purple logo gives away, it's actually a trap and will summon some more Astral Spikes who need killing.
Once you're monster free, jump across to the platform to your right. There you'll quickly find another evil respawn point. I recommend jumping over this one as it will summon spikes. Be quick about it though because the spikes will continue appearing until you've Shifted onto the wall in front of you.
Atop this wall, you now need to jump across to the next platform. Thankfully, you can already see the next 'respawn' point awaiting you. This one is another monster ambush, so take care of them however you see fit.
Now you need to actually ignore the apartment ruins and follow the white scribbles instead. To do this, climb atop the pillars to the left of this area and then follow the path you find yourself on. You'll know if you're going the right way if you can spot another skulled respawn point.
Don't jump across to the respawn point though! Instead, you'll want to Shift over to the underside of this platform (basically where the rug overlaps). Continue going forward and Shifting until you're on a part of the platform with just black rock.
Next, turn around and you'll see the platform containing the key. Jump across and pick it up! Key in hand, you can jump down to the platform below to open a resource chest. After doing so, run off the side of the platform in the direction you came in to force gravity to change. With that done, all you have to do is return to the door!
6. Investigate the Astral Plane.
Thankfully, there's no fourth key and you'll now be in the remains of the patterned apartment. This area has a good number of collectibles hidden away in it if you'd like to learn more about exactly what happened to lead to this mission. It's also a good idea to take a quick visit to The Gap to perform any upgrades or use any Talent Points you might have going spare.
When you're ready, head to the end of the room as it's time to fight a Resonant!
7. Kill the Astral Plane Resonant.
The final task of this mission is to kill the Astral Plane Resonant and I have a The Physicist boss strategy guide if you'd like a hand. This Resonant is quite a deal stronger than the others you've previously faced, so don't feel bad if you need to go and increase your Power. I do recommend defeating it before you finish the game, however, as the abilities it unlocks will come in handy.
With the death of The Physicist, 'The Underpass Resonant' mission will come to a close. As a reward you'll get 3,000 Source, one Reset Item, the Untapped Golden Earrings and 500 Underpass XP. A collectible will also appear by the remains of The Physicist and there will be a little fast travel spot nearby which will return you to the ruined apartment in the Astral Plane.
Congratulations, you've completed 'The Underpass Resonant' mission! It's one of two Resonant related missions you'll encounter while exploring Control Resonant rather than being told about them by Zoe. (The other being 'The Unknown Resonant'.) You're now free to continue on with the game's story or, if you fancy doing something different, why not hunt down the taxi locations and dog locations.
