Control Resonant The Co-Director boss strategy
How to defeat The Unknown Resonant.
The Co-Director is The Unknown Resonant boss in Control Resonant. He's also one of the hardest bosses in the game, which I appreciate considering who this boss is. Part of this difficulty comes from the fact The Co-Director is the only boss in the game who has a time limit. A fact that might not be obvious to you during your first bout with him. Don't worry though, my The Co-Director boss strategy will provide you with some useful tips on how to defeat him.

Control Resonant The Co-Director boss strategy
Before I give you any advice on how to defeat The Co-Director, there's one very important thing you need to know. The moment the fight begins you'll see a new metre - one with wavy lines which is slowly outlined in purple - appear at the bottom of the screen. This marks the Resonant's attempt to take control of Dylan. When this metre fills, the fight will automatically end.
Due to this, you need to defeat The Co-Director as quickly as possible. If you have any trouble with this fight, I highly recommend taking the time to increase your Power Level and unlocking new Talents to boost your attacks.
With that in mind, let's take a look at The Co-Director's moveset before I give you some advice on how to defeat him.
The Co-Director Attacks
- Controlling enemies - The Co-Director will gradually turn the rangers who entered the battle with you against you. He will do the same for the rangers who later enter the fight and potentially your own summons. When this happens, your former allies will begin attacking you and you'll need to defeat them to avoid taking unnecessary damage.
- Spin attack - When you're close to The Co-Director he might perform a spin attack, which sees the circle of rangers around him spinning multiple times. The sign that this attack is coming is The Co-Director pulling himself into an almost crouching position. The circle of rangers will also draw closer to him.
- Purple lasers - The Co-Director will shoot out a purple laser, which will follow you for a short period of time. In my experience, he uses this attack when there's no allies for him to command.
- Purple energy balls - This attack comes from some of the rangers surrounding the Co-Director and, as the name I've given it suggests, sees them shooting balls out of purple energy towards you.
- Moving spin attack - Once you've cut his health down by roughly a quarter, The Co-Director will use his spinning attack while moving. He will try chasing you while doing this, so it's a good idea to stay out of his way.
- Slam attack - The Co-Director will raise his left arm before slamming down on the ground. In my experience, he said started using this attack when he was at roughly half health.
- Rocket launchers - Once you've reached the last quarter of The Co-Director's health, the rangers surrounding him will begin shooting rockets at you. Do your best to dodge them!
- Exploding ranger - This attack occurs once and, looking back at my footage, I can't tell if I took damage from it, but wanted to include it just in case. Once you're at the point where you can finally kill The Co-Director, any remaining rangers he has under his command will explode. (So you might not even encounter this attack!) I recommend trying your best to avoid them if you're at low health just in case.
You'll want to defeat The Co-Director quickly to avoid falling to his kill switch and the best way to do this is fill in his falter metre. He will take double damage when this occurs and remain motionless too, giving you the perfect opportunity to deal an awful lot of damage. To speed things up I recommend focusing on applying either the mold or fire status effects. Ideally, you'll want to use both to inflict a nice little explosion upon The Co-Director.
Another tricky aspect of The Co-Director is that he's flying, which means you're constantly attacking him in mid-air. It can also make it quite easy to fall to his spinning attack as he'll often use it when you're attacking him. The best way to dodge it, and to get close to him in general, is to use the pillars dotted about the boss arena to speed up your movements. Reach is perfect for grabbing onto a nearby pillar when you can.
Finally, it's important to remember to kill the rangers The Co-Director commands. These rangers will start attacking you if you leave them be and this can easily cut down on your health. There will be two sets of rangers - one arriving at the beginning of the fight and another roughly half-way through - so make sure you're keeping an eye on them.
Alongside this, as mentioned, The Co-Director can take control of your own summons. While I used summons during this fight, I do recommend being wary of using them due to this. Personally, I only used the mold summons and kept it to one summon at a time to prevent this from happening. My combined mold summon and fire attacks did quickly fill the falter bar though. Please note that I went with a summons, with high defense, build for the end-game of Control Resonant. This played a part in ensuring that The Co-Director controlling my summons didn't have much of an impact on my health.
Best of luck defeating The Unknown Resonant! With The Co-Director put to rest, why not take a look at the taxi locations and dog locations.
