Death-defying feats make great footage, but it’s almost always the same story, which is that death can only be defied for so long. Go to Full Review

The Dark Wizard immediately moves away from Potter's idealized image in the climbing world, presenting him instead as a gifted but troubled man who used extreme high-altitude sports to find joy and escape his psychological pain. Go to Full Review

From beginning to end, The Dark Wizard is captivating. It tells a human story, one that is fraught with danger and depression. Go to Full Review

Yes, there's breath-taking footage of the many awe-inspiring acts that made Potter famous. But rather than purely mythologising him, the filmmakers have gone to great lengths to give insight into his personal struggles and motivations. Go to Full Review

Ryan S @RT36023761 1d amazing psychological storytelling journey into a fabulous and tormented athlete. See more David F @RT55571476 2d I have no interest in sports whatsoever… but I’m totally addicted to this series. The incredible footage and the death-defying athletics drew me in, and the interesting characters kept me watching. These dudes are freakin’ insane, and their dangerous climbs are truly exciting to watch. I don’t know if I’ve ever been so on edge watching television before. It’s amazing. See more Thomas B @MolokaiMovieMan Apr 23 Finally, an honest and unflinching look at an immensely talented, but dark and disturbed individual whose net influences on the climbing and extreme sports worlds were probably more negative than positive. I spent a fair amount of time climbing in Yosemite. I was admittedly an extremely amateur and below average big wall climber. I only say this to provide some context for my viewpoint and review. I remember hearing about Dean’s exploits and was incredibly impressed with his fearlessness and daring. At the same time, there was a non trivial amount of back channel impressions of him that were surprisingly negative. Yet, no one could say a word publicly, Dean was a God and saying anything bad about him was not tolerated. There’s no question Dean was absolutely a phenomenal athlete, a visionary in his pursuits, and absolutely driven to be the best. What I liked about this documentary was the very honest look into who he was and the tragedy of his untimely and self inflicted death. See more Joe D @JoeNDA Apr 15 You know it’s a good climbing documentary when your palms is sweaty most of the time throughout the whole movie/episode. See more Doug J. @Dougiefresh Apr 15 Intense, revealing, honest and interesting. Worth watching! See more Ben J @RT05610157 Apr 14 Exhilarating series that leaves the viewer excited for more every episode. Despite this documentary being post-mortem, they’re able to really capture Deans personality and bring him to life on the screen. See more Read all reviews
