Legendary gear in Borderlands 4 can be found as drops from world or story-centric bosses. These drops aren't always guaranteed, which is intentional to incentivize players to return to boss battles multiple times and, perhaps, on harder difficulties in order to grind for a rare legendary loot drop.

Legendary weapons are the highest rarity tier in Borderlands 4, marked by the classic Orange Rarity. They feature unique names, effects, and mechanics that set them apart from lower-rarity gear. Drop Mechanics

In Borderlands 4, Legendary weapon drops can be found looting various locales through the game's world or landing the goods from defeating bosses:

• Dedicated Drops: As in the past, specific bosses are tied to one or more legendary weapons. Repeatedly defeating these bosses is the most reliable way to obtain their unique items.
• World Drops: There is a potential for legendaries that can drop from any other source outside of bosses: basic enemies, chests, vending machines, and more. This usually happens a much lower rate.
• Scaling Factors: Difficulty mode, endgame modifiers, co-op play, and character level can influence drop frequency and item power.

Tip: Save/quit or fast-travel loops that respawn a dedicated boss are typically the fastest farming routes.

Legendary Drop Sources

Bosses

• Main Story Bosses: Each major encounter usually has at least one dedicated legendary. It's not guaranteed that a legendary piece of gear will drop which is why you have the option to return to fight previous bosses in hopes of rolling the dice again.
• World Bosses: These have a chance at dropping a more broad range of legendaries. However, this drops are still rare.

Chests & Loot Containers

• Rare chests have a chance to yield legendaries.
• Future event-specific containers (much like Borderlands 3) may feature boosted drop odds or time-limited items.

Legendary Farming Strategies

• Respawn Loops: Utilize checkpoints or fast travel to quickly reset boss encounters.
• Difficulty & Modifiers: Higher endgame difficulty settings maintain higher drop rates for more/better loot.
• Co-op: Multiplayer can increase enemy counts, indirectly boosting drop opportunities.
