This page contains IGN's Walkthrough for Tesham Mutna, the eleventh main quest of The Witcher 3's first DLC expansion, Blood and Wine.

Depending on what you did before this main quest, the outcome of this quest will change:

  • After completing What Lies Unseen - Fight Dettlaff and move on to Pomp and Strange Circumstance.
  • After completing Beyond Hill and Dale with Syanna's ribbon - Fight Dettlaff and move on to Pomp and Strange Circumstance.
  • After completing Beyond Hill and Dale without Syanna's ribbon - Pick to either fight Detlaff or let him leave. Both choices lead to Burlap is the New Stripe.

Dettlaff: First Phase

Before you begin to fight, prepare by splashing some Vampire Oil on your Silver Sword and equipping your Black Blood potion to use during battle. Also remember that throughout the entire fight, you should constantly be using Quen as it will save you from losing chunks of health from some powerful attacks.

Remember fighting Dettlaff back in Blood Run? This fight is essentially another go at the same fight. Dodge Dettlaff's attacks and only attack once you see that he has missed, or he has his back turned. Continue to dodge and attack up until you get his health bar past the first third. From here, the boss battle will move into the second phase.

Second Phase

Wow, that's uh, quite the transformation. At any rate, getting hit by Dettlaff during this phase can be very deadly. You'll see him cycle through three different attacks. First he will spread his wings in the air, then quickly swoop down and attack. A quick dodge will make this attack nothing to worry about. Next, Dettlaff will summon a swarm of bats and shoot them in your direction. Roll at the last second to avoid them, otherwise you'll lose a decent chunk of damage and be left stunned.

The final attack is the important one. Detlaff will disappear and burst from under the ground directly beneath you. You'll be able to see it seconds before it hits, so roll and dodge accordingly. Once he is out, he'll be vulnerable for just a few seconds. Give a few slashes, then wait for your next opportunity.

There are also what look like portals forming out of the ground at random places. Avoid these at all costs! Touching one will get you stuck inside long enough to allow Dettlaff to swoop in and attack with a deadly force.

Third Phase

It only makes sense that being transported to another dimension would follow, right? Or are you inside Dettlaff himself? It might be the case as your goal here is to destroy the three orbs surrounding the area you're, each one named Dettlaff. Oh, and there's a vampire beast chasing you around too.

The beast chasing you around in the middle is actually quite easy to take down. You'll have to do some dodging and avoiding, but you can take it down relatively quick. Once defeated, you can head to one of the orbs and start slashing away. The catch is that the vampire will respawn within seconds, only giving you a short window.

Another way to go about this phase is to run to one of the orbs, hit it once or twice, then dodge the vampire's attacks. From there, run to the next orb and repeat the process. The vampire will quickly move to your area, but you should be able to chip away at the orbs this way.

You do not need to defeat the vampire to move onto the next phase.

Fourth Phase

The fourth and final phase is actually a walk in the park. After returning back to the previous battlefield, run up to Dettlaff and attack to end the battle. Now onto more cutscenes and the next main quest, Pomp and Strange Circumstance.
