All Dye Locations and Recipes in Crimson Desert
Here is where to find every dyehouse and how to unlock every dye.
Among all the mechanics in Crimson Desert, dyeing your equipment is one of the more complicated examples. Various restrictions make customizing your favorite armor and weapons a confusing process at first.
To help you tackle the dangers of Pywel in style, we're going to break it all down. Follow below as we cover every dye location and recipe in Crimson Desert, including how to make use of them.
On this page:
Every Dyehouse location in Crimson Desert
You need to visit a dyehouse in order to do any color customizing. Across Pywel are 10 unique dye merchant NPCs to assist you, plus an extra that provides a more complete service. The map below can be used to find every dyehouse in Crimson Desert, thanks to our friends at MapGenie.
We'll be further detailing exactly where every dye merchant is located, the color hues they provide, and whether there are any requirements to unlock them.
Hernand Dyehouse
This is likely the first dyehouse you'll find since it’s very close to the starting city of Hernand. Head southeast of the city and follow the Nas River down until you find a long pavilion and colorful sheets of fabric.
Check the west side of the building to find the dye merchant Theoric. He sells you the Dark Red Dye to start with and specializes in Red hues.
Pororin Dyehouse
The next closest dyehouse you can find early on is within the elusive Pororin Village. However, you won't be able to just walk in. After you approach this area and get knocked out three times, you'll need to complete a side quest for a Shai to gain access to the village.
At the north end is the dye merchant Devin, who stands out on account of being a blue anthropomorphic anthromophoric cat. He sells you the Yellow dye to start with and specializes in Yellow hues.
Calphade Dyehouse
Calphade Dyehouse is next, located in the upper half of the Hernand region. Travel north along the Haunted Hill road until you reach the Calphade South Gate next to the Deep Fog Basin. West from here and across the road from the Calphade Siege Armory is the dyehouse.
Underneath a big awning and near the cliff wall is the dye merchant Lauendell. He sells the Green dye and specializes in Green hues.
Rustleleaf Farm Dyehouse
The next three are in the mostly hostile Demeniss region. Two out of the three won't be accessible until later in the story, but if you travel to the southwest part of the region where the farmland begins, you can safely approach the Rustleleaf Farm Dyehouse.
Right next to a small river is the dye merchant Linus. He sells the Bright Blue Dye and specializes in Blue hues.
Greenfield Farm Dyehouse
Only once you've completed Chapter Eight of the main quest line can you interact with the Greenfield Farm Dyehouse. It's located northwest of the city. If you're looking at your map, the dyehouse is slightly northeast of the first 'E' in Demeniss.
Monty is the dye merchant here and is set up along the road between tracts of farmland. He sells Bright Violet dye and specializes in Violet hues.
Sunset Dyehouse
The third Demeniss dyehouse also unlocks after completing Chapter Eight. Directly northeast of the city and along the road is the Sunset Dyehouse. If you're looking at your map, the dyehouse is on the left side of the letter 'I' in Demeniss.
Situated near some houses and underneath a pavilion, it's hard to miss Edmar the dye merchant. He sells the Rich Purple Dye and specializes in Purple hues.
Delesyia Dyehouse
Continue past Demeniss to venture into the Delesyia region. East of the major city here is the Delesyia Dyehouse. If you follow the long vertical river that cuts through the right side of the region, you'll find the dyehouse almost a third of the way down.
It's easy to find, thanks to the many vats of blue coloring and large robots helping with the process. The dye merchant named Castiel can be found underneath a small wooden plank pavilion. He sells the Deep Sky Blue dye and specializes in Sky Blue hues.
Pailune Dyehouse
While you can at least see the locked Demeniss dyehouses early on, the one for Pailune doesn't even exist until you complete Chapter Seven. Once you have, it can be found right next to the southern entrance of the city.
Just jump over the right side wall and look for the purple tunic-wearing man to meet the dye merchant Laurick. He sells the Teal dye and specializes in Teal hues.
Tommaso Dyehouse
The namesake Crimson Desert area is massive, but it only features one area to dye your equipment. Traveling into this region from Demeniss will likely funnel you through the city of Tommaso. To the west of this city is a road leading to the Caledora village and Tommaso Dyehouse.
At the end of the road is a short stretch of shops, including a dyehouse run by Cormac. He sells the Dark Orange dye and specializes in Orange hues.
Varnia Dyehouse
Brave your way through the Crimson Desert and into the Northeastern corner of the map to discover Varnia. This area is pretty small, so it's easy to find the Varnia Dyehouse that’s situated outside the city.
Alton is the resident Varnia dye merchant and can be found under a pavilion with a back wall. He sells the Rich Spring Green Dye and specializes in Spring Green hues.
Base Camp Dyer
While this isn't a dyehouse per se, it essentially functions as a better version. Completing the Greymane side quests and upgrading your Greymane Camp two times will lead you to recruit Oliver. What's great about him is that he can dye your equipment with any color you've learned. He also lets you use every Dyehouse's exclusive material once you've discovered them.
Oliver sells the Shadow Grey Dye, which shows up as the top row under the Delesyian Dye category. Since his specialty is pretty much everything, he's the best way to customize your equipment in one convenient location. No need to remember which Demeniss dyehouse does violet and which does purple anymore!
All Crimson Desert dye recipes list
Besides the Pure White, Black, and eight Grey dyes, each can be found (usually by stealing) in the open world or crafted using the correct ingredients. If you want to farm the dyes in Crimson Desert, you can earn a random one by maximizing your Trust with a generic 'Dyer' or 'Expert Dyer' NPC at a Dyehouse. Gifting them 10 of any cooked meat is the easiest method.
Of course, there is something special about finding them for yourself and not relying on RNG. Here is every dye recipe in Crimson Desert, as well as their ingredients and potential locations. Every colored dye can be found in multiple places on the map, so don’t be surprised if you come across one somewhere else!

How to use dye in Crimson Desert
Although it helps to know where every dyehouse is, don't expect a prepared catalog of color choices. You can only change the color of your equipment based on which dyes you’ve already learned.
Further restricting your choices is that each dyehouse is limited to the hues they specialize in. You'll only get Red in Hernand, Yellow in Pororin, and so on. Thankfully, every dyehouse sells one specific dye they work with to give you something new to mess around with.
Needing to travel across the map just for the chance to add Blues and Oranges to your equipment is a big commitment. That said, mastering this system is worth it if you want to fight in style.
It all starts with the dyes themselves. Unless you’re deliberately farming them by maximizing your trust with Dyer NPCs, you'll generally find and steal these from various houses across Pywel.
Keep an eye out for round glass bottles half-filled with a colorful liquid. They can be hard to see inside some buildings, especially when they’re between other items on a shelf, so use your lantern and thoroughly check each room.
If you're not looting or getting them from NPCs, you can always craft the various colored dyes. Making your own dyes requires a Cauldron. There aren't a lot of these, but the one in Hernand's city or the one you can purchase for your house are the most accessible.
The general recipe format is to use a mixture of specific colored medicinal herbs and different beetles. You sometimes have freedom with the types of herbs, but the amount of beetles you use has to be precise. I wouldn't recommend improvising for these recipes unless you've read our recipe list above.
It's worth mentioning that you can learn the crafting recipes for a dye as soon as the bottle enters your inventory. Chances are you won't need to craft them once you have a bottle on hand, but it can be useful if you misplace one or decide to craft more as item decorations.
Learning the recipe and learning how to apply it are separate steps though. No matter if you found them in someone's house or crafted them, you need to 'Use' a Dye in your inventory first to learn and make them accessible at the relevant Dyehouse.
There will be 20 variants (two rows worth) of the new color the next time you interact with the right dyehouse. You're free to apply any of these hues to both your equipment and your horse's if the gear can be customized. Each dyehouse also has an exclusive material style you can apply to your equipment.
It costs one Silver to make changes, which adds up when you're making small tweaks or traveling across different dyehouses to add specific splashes of color. This is another great reason to unlock Oliver at your base camp. Being able to apply every color you’ve learned and every material you’ve discovered at once for just one Silver is incredibly convenient.
That covers all you need to know about dyes in Crimson Desert! If you want to make your color collecting easier, make sure you know every fast travel location and how to pay any fines in case you're caught stealing.
