A bush is a non-solid plant block found in many grassy biomes. Its color is biome-dependent, and matches the color of grass blocks.
Obtaining
[edit | edit source]Breaking
[edit | edit source]Attempting to mine a bush with or without any tool will instantly destroy it, but breaking the bush with shears or any item with Silk Touch is required for the bush to actually drop as an item.
- incorrect tool, drops nothing
- correct tool, drops nothing or something other than the block itself
- correct tool, drops the block itself
- italicized can be instant mined
Natural generation
[edit | edit source]
Small patches of bushes naturally generate on the shores of rivers and frozen rivers, and in birch forests, old growth birch forests, forests, plains, windswept hills, windswept gravelly hills, and windswept forests (as well as in their unused variants in Bedrock Edition). Bushes can also generate as part of abandoned camps in birch forests, flower forests, and forests.
Post-generation
[edit | edit source]Using bone meal on a bush attempts to grow another bush on a neighboring block.
Usage
[edit | edit source]Placement
[edit | edit source]Bushes mainly serve as atmospheric decoration and can be placed on any of the following blocks:
Bushes cannot be placed inside flower pots.
In Bedrock Edition, bushes can be snowlogged.
Composting
[edit | edit source]Placing a bush into a composter has a 30 % chance of raising the compost level by 1, yielding an average of 2.74 bone meal per stack.
Color
[edit | edit source]The coloration of bushes is dependent on the biome they are in. A block always uses the color set to its location, regardless of how it was placed or of its source.
These values are generated by the biome dyeing algorithm, which depends on the biome's temperature and downfall. See biome colors for more information.
