Goran Risticevic liked thisGoran Risticevic liked thisMongoDB's CEO got a panicked text ahead of the World Cup. A customer was about to run out of database capacity weeks before the tournament. The customer was a prediction-market company, processing predictions every minute (before the tournament even began). I sat down with Chirantan "CJ" Desai, CEO of MongoDB, at the RAISE Summit in Paris to understand this. He talks to 10 to 12 customers a week, and keeps hearing versions of the same urgency. A Fortune 100 company in Texas, one of a hyperscaler's top 50 accounts, asked for more capacity and got turned down. They kept a data center they'd already planned to shut down and now run those workloads themselves. A US telecom got refused too, signed with a second cloud provider, and now splits one app across GCP and Azure. That’s why customers choose MongoDB, as it is not locked to any specific cloud. MongoDB has a market cap near $25B, sits inside a New York bank's 55-component AI agent stack, and was recently named a top-three software pick by Citi, alongside Snowflake and Palantir. There's a lot more to CJ's story than I could fit here.
