Borderlands 4 launched just over a month ago to some pretty decent reviews. Despite being a great game overall, it suffered from some performance issues and some questionable decisions by the devs. Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford has said a lot of things during the launch period, including that the game will not go on sale anytime soon. As always, Pitchford was wrong.

My Borderlands 4 Playthrough Feels Like It’s Been Blessed By The Gaming Gods

While technical issues dominate the online conversation, my campaign has been blissfully bug-free.

It seems Borderlands 4 is already 20 percent off on Steam just over a month after it launched. It isn't common for a game to go on sale so soon after its release, especially one as big as Borderlands 4. Perhaps with the plethora of performance issues and the launch of Battlefield 6, Gearbox must have felt a price cut could help.

Why Is Borderlands 4 Already On Sale?

While Borderlands 4 is primarily a single-player game, it can be played co-op. It doesn't have a dedicated multiplayer mode, but the endgame usually involves farming bosses for better guns, and an eventual raid boss. Unfortunately, the Steam player count for the game has been plummeting and a sale may be just what it needs.

Clearly, Pitchford didn't really plan ahead while tweeting about the game not going on sale anytime soon, but fans have come to expect that from him. It's hard to say if this was planned or a kneejerk reaction to the player count. Gearbox was sure to know that Battlefield 6's launch would rattle the player count, and perhaps the discount was a part of the strategy. If so, Pitchford was clearly not in that meeting.

When the main quest really feels like a quest.

20 percent is a massive discount for a recently launched triple-A game. A ten percent discount would have still made sense, but this big discount suggests people at Gearbox could be worried about the longevity of the game.

Meanwhile, Pitchford is busy tracking down an Australian airport security personnel who told the Gearbox chief that he looks like Randy Pitchford. Apparently, he wants to put him in a future quest.
