Borderlands 4 did stick to its promise of having less slapstick humour. While the writing is much better, the game unfortunately struggles with other things, like performance issues and bugs that make bosses despawn. While the devs are probably busy working on this, Randy Pitchford has told fans to refund the game if they're not happy with it.

Borderlands 4 Is Already The Best Feeling Game In Series' History, And It's All Thanks To Movement

I'll play any game with a glider and a grappling hook.

Despite all this, the game is doing pretty well in terms of reviews and fan appreciation. One of the biggest reasons for this is probably the open world system that Gearbox had adopted. While it keeps the action flowing and gets rid of loading screens, there is one thing that ruins this system – too many invisible walls.

Borderlands 4 Has Too Many Invisible Walls

With this new open world, you're free to explore every inch of Kairos. You can take shortcuts and plan your route too. However, the magic of this instantly wears off as soon as you hit your first invisible wall. It seems Kairos isn't as open as we thought, as Gearbox has made the world appear open, but contained it with quite a few invisible walls.

This has annoyed fans of the game, who otherwise love the open world. The most frustrating thing about this is that you might think you've found a shortcut or an alternate route, but you'll never know if there's an invisible wall blocking your progress unless you try it. Players are calling out the devs for this lazy attempt at making the world look bigger.

"They gave mobility tools then lazily slapped invisible walls everywhere instead of properly designing obstacles. Also, if we are trying to take shortcuts a lot it says something about the map design," said one comment on a Reddit post about Borderland 4's open world. It seems most players love the world, but hate that it's built this way.

"I can't even tell you how many mountains/buildings I've Skyrim climbed up for a shortcut only to be met by an invisible wall," said another. Unfortunately, it's not something that the devs will be able to fix anytime soon, as it's at the core of the game. But, if you have issues with it, you can take Pitchford's advice and refund the game.
