Bald Mountain is a main quest in The Witcher 3. It takes place in Velen, and more specifically, on Bald Mountain. Below is a full walkthrough of this quest as a part of our larger The Witcher 3 Wiki Guide.

Bald Mountain Quest Walkthrough

You have been close by once before, during the quest “The Ladies of the Wood” and “The Whispering Hillock.” Both Imlerith and the Crones will be at Bald Mountain. It’s time to pay them a visit and seek your revenge.

Walk up the hill with Ciri to be stopped by a couple of townsmen. Inquire about the sabbath and the ladies of the wood. It sounds like an old woman in the town decides who gets to visit the Crones and go up the mountain. Leave the fire and go see this lady to gain passage to the mountain. Along the way, Johnny the Godling will stop you and tell you about the woman that grants passage. Listen to Johnny and go off to visit this mysterious woman.

Inside, her assistant evaluates both Ciri and Geralt. Ciri passes the young-and-beautiful-enough human sacrifice test, while Geralt is a tad too old looking. There is another chance though. The old woman, Thecla, has a test for those to prove their worth. Follow her outside and take the test.

She leads you to a walkway high above a cove. She drops a special coin down into the water. Your task is to retrieve it and bring the coin back to her. Dive off the walkway and into the water. Use your crossbow to kill the Drowners, so they don’t attack you while you find the coin. Swim back a little ways and the coin will be glowing red. Grab it and swim back to the surface. Climb the rocks to the left to make it back on land. You should hear a loud roar from nearby. That is a fiend. It is possible to not fight it. Follow the path to the right and up the rocks. Climb the stairs and head back into the tent to gain your passage to the mountain.

Follow Thecla’s assistant to the mountain entrance and go inside. Arm yourself with Samum or Devil’s Puffball bombs if you have them. Relict Oil is a good idea too. You have a small monster fight coming up with a sylvan named Fugas. This giant, red devil-looking monster approves Ciri for passage, but tells Geralt that his all-access coins signifies a death sentence. He plops down from the wall and begins to attack.

Monster Fight: Fugas

Fugas is slow, but powerful. He can stomp the ground and stun Geralt, giving him ample time to blast him with a fireball. It’s best to be quick about this fight. Ironically, he is weak to Igni. Dance around him, watching for his foot to rise for a stomp, and hit him with quick blows. Stay away when he stomps or summons fire. His fire blasts will usually cause Geralt to catch on fire. Use Swallow when needed, and finish him off as as soon as possible.

With Fugas down, Ciri and Geralt decide to split up to defeat the Crones and Imlerith. Who gets to fight who? All decided with a serious, life-or-death game of rock, paper, scissors. Geralt wins a duel with Imlerith, while Ciri gets to fight the Crones. Geralt goes off to climb Bald Mountain, while you take control of Ciri to fight the Ladies of the Wood.

Boss Battle: The Crones

The Crones have been taunting you since Velen, with their creepy, child eating voodoo. It’s time to kill them, once and for all. After a spooky introduction to the fight, Ciri is launched into a three-on-one fight with the witches.

Right off the bat, focus on Brewess. She is the fat one. She is slow and barely moves. She is an easy target to pick off. Dodge her devastating swing attacks though. Stay on her side or behind her when attacking. Weavess and Whispess will try and hit you when you wail on their sister. Avoid their crow transformations, by side stepping or blinking out of the way. Remember to use your new charge attack to deal lots of damage quickly. In no time Brewess will be down, and you can focus on the other two.

For Weavess and Whispess, it’s all about patience. Keep an eye on your health and dodge around the room, if you need time to regenerate it. The Crones like to teleport by either turning into crows and flying behind you, or swimming in the blood on the floor. Watch for ripples in the water to see where they go.

Use Blink if they are close by to deal damage to them both. Otherwise, hit them one at a time, until they teleport. Whittle down their health, while dodging their attacks and the Crones will be dead in no time.

At the end of the fight, Ciri inspects the bodies. It turns out the Weavess is still alive. She surprises Ciri and escapes with Vesemir’s wolf medallion. It’s now time to fight Imlerith as Geralt.

Boss Battle: Imlerith

Imlerith is the second member of the Wild Hunt crew that you will face. He may seem like the big and slow kind of boss, especially with that shield and mace, but he is far from slow. He will constantly teleport to try and flank you the entire fight. Dodge roll is your friend. Roll behind him and land a couple of quick blows before dodging out of his way again.

It is important to switch between Quen and Igni for this fight too. Use Quen to protect yourself from any blows that make contact. When Imlerith teleports, you will notice an icy shield surrounding his body. Quickly switch to Igni to melt that away, then switch right back to Quen. This is important for the entire fight. Yrden can slow him down a tad too, if you want to try and land a few more attacks.

Keep dodging and landing small blows until 2/3 of his health is gone. At this point, Imlerith will toss his shield aside and rapidly teleport and attack you. He teleports three times before attempting an overhead blow, causing his mace to get stuck in the ground. Take this opportunity to hit him once or twice before dodging. Keep up this pattern until roughly 5% of Imlerith’s health remains. At this point, the fight ends in a satisfying cutscene.

Ciri will join up with Geralt on top of Bald Mountain. The two of you avenged Vesemir and can now go on to meet Yennefer and Triss. If you tell Ciri “not quite yet,” in regards to leaving, you can explore the mountain a bit before going down and running into the men from the beginning of this quest (Imlerith will drop a magic acorn that grants you skill points when consumed so you'll want to pick that up!). The Crones drop an ear and mostly useless loot.Talk to Ciri to leave. After a chat with the men, the quest will conclude.
