Wikipedia:Requests for permissions
This page enables administrators to handle requests for permissions on the English Wikipedia. Administrators are able to modify account creator, autopatrolled, confirmed, file mover, extended confirmed, mass message sender, new page reviewer, page mover, pending changes reviewer, rollback, and template editor rights, and AutoWikiBrowser access.
Editors wishing to request a permission flag here should do so following the procedure below. Editors requesting permissions are advised to periodically revisit the requests page, as notifications will not always be given after a decision is made. Editors should not expect their request to be answered right away and should remember to be patient when filing a request. To find out what permissions your account has, go to Special:Preferences, where your permissions are listed in the user profile tab under "Member of groups".
Requests for permissions are archived regularly; please see Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Archive for an index of past requests.

Handled here
- Account creator (add request · view requests): The account creator flag is granted to users who are active in the request an account process. The flag removes the limit on the maximum number of new accounts that can be created in a 24 hour period. It also allows users to make accounts with names similar to other accounts. The account creator flag is only given to users who participate in the ACC process and may be removed without notice should a user's participation in the account creation process cease.
- Autopatrolled (add request · view requests): The autopatrolled flag is granted to users who are active in the creation of new articles. This tool is granted so their creations are auto patrolled in Special:NewPages. Unlike other requests, any user may nominate an editor for Autopatrolled, even without that user's consent. A user who wishes to have this flag generally should have created at least 25 articles and must be trusted, experienced, and must have demonstrated they are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, especially WP:BLP and Wikipedia:Notability.
- AutoWikiBrowser (add request · view requests): AutoWikiBrowser is a semi-automated MediaWiki editor for Microsoft Windows, designed to make tedious repetitive tasks quicker and easier. It is essentially a browser that automatically opens up a new page when the last is saved. When set to do so, it suggests some changes (typically formatting) that are generally meant to be incidental to the main change. Please read the rules of use and registration requirements on the main page before requesting permission. This is not a true user right, but access needs to be granted by administrators just like other permissions. If approved, your name will be added to the CheckPage. Users with under 250 non-automated mainspace edits or 500 total mainspace edits are rarely approved. You will need to give a reason for wanting AWB access.
- Confirmed (add request · view requests): The confirmed flag may be granted to new users who have not yet hit the threshold for autoconfirmed status. These are users who have not had both 10 edits and 4 days experience. People with this flag can upload files and edit semi-protected pages before hitting the autoconfirmed flag. Users requesting this flag must indicate clearly why they should be exempted from the customary confirmation period.
- Event coordinator (add request · view requests): The event coordinator user right allows editors to create multiple new accounts, and to temporarily confirm accounts so that they can create new articles.
- Extended confirmed (add request · view requests): The extended confirmed flag is normally automatically added to accounts after 500 edits and 30 days, but may be added to legitimate alternate accounts of users that already have this access. The flag allows users to edit pages under extended confirmed protection.
- File mover (add request · view requests): The file mover user right is intended to allow users experienced in working with files to rename them, subject to policy, with the ease that autoconfirmed users already enjoy when renaming Wikipedia articles.
- Mass message sender (add request · view requests): Mass message sender enables users to send messages to multiple users at once. This flag is given to users who have made requests for delivery in the past, clearly showing an understanding of the guidance for use.
- New page reviewer (add request · view requests): The new page reviewer user right allows users to mark pages as patrolled and use the page curation toolbar. At administrators' discretion, the right may be accorded on a time limited basis or indefinite.
- Page mover (add request · view requests): The page mover user right allows users experienced in working with article names to move them, subject to policy, without leaving behind a redirect. They may also move all subpages when moving the parent page(s). General guidelines include making 3,000 edits and 6 months of editing history. At administrators' discretion, the right may be accorded on a time limited basis or indefinite.
- Pending changes reviewer (add request · view requests): The reviewer flag is granted to users who are experienced enough with Wikipedia editing and its policies for contributing to the process of reviewing articles placed under pending changes.
- Rollback (add request · view requests): Rollback enables users to remove vandalism much more quickly and efficiently than by undoing it. Users who do not demonstrate an understanding of what constitutes capable vandalism fighting, either because they have no or little history of doing so, or show a poor ability to discern between good and bad faith edits will not be granted this right. Also, it is unlikely that editors with under 200 mainspace edits will have their request granted. For a more detailed explanation of rollback and information about when it is appropriate to use the tool, see Wikipedia:Rollback. For information about the technical details of the feature, see here.
- Template editor (add request · view requests): The template editor flag allows users to edit protected templates and Lua modules. General guidelines for granting include making at least 1,000 edits overall (with at least 150 to templates or modules), being a registered user for over a year, and having a record of successfully proposing significant edits to several protected templates. Users should demonstrate proficiency with template syntax and an understanding of the need for caution when editing heavily-used templates.
- Temporary account IP viewer (add request · view requests): Temporary account IP viewers are able to view the IP address information associated with temporary accounts.
Handled elsewhere
Several permissions are requested and handled elsewhere:
- Administrator and bureaucrat access: Requests for administrator or bureaucrat access need to be posted at requests for adminship and requests for bureaucratship, respectively.
- Bots: Request for bot flags should be made at Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval.
- Edit filter: Requests for access to the edit filter manager group and the edit filter helper group should be made at Wikipedia:Edit filter noticeboard.
- Interface administrator: Requests for interface administrator access should be made at Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard. Only current administrators may become interface administrators.
- IP-block-exempt: While the IP-block-exempt right can be granted by administrators, this flag is not handled here. Requests for the IP-block exempt right should be submitted via email to the checkuser team at checkuser-en-wp
wikipedia.org or contact a CheckUser directly. - CheckUser and Oversight: These rights are only granted by the Arbitration Committee, and only after strict scrutiny. More information can be found here.
- AfC reviewer: This access is granted by administrators at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Articles for creation/Participants.
- Redirect autopatrol list: Addition to the list is granted by administrators at Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Redirect autopatrol list.
- Steward permissions can only be granted in yearly elections, and are rarely given.
- Election clerk has no process for requesting it; admins can grant it to themselves or other admins at any time.
- Global permissions such as global renamer, sysop, IP block exempt, rollback, etc. should be made at meta:Steward requests/Global permissions.
Review and removal of permissions
The requests for permissions process is not used to review or remove user rights:
- If you wish to have any of your permissions removed, contact an administrator
- To request a review of another editor's use of a permission, use administrative action review
- If you believe someone's actions merit removal of a permission, raise your concern at the administrator's noticeboard
The bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight permissions are removed at meta:Steward requests/Permissions. Stewards will typically not carry out such requests unless they are made on behalf of the Arbitration Committee, by a user who is requesting their own access be removed, or in cases of an emergency.
Process
Requestors
To make a request for a permission, click "add request" next to the appropriate header and fill in the reason for wanting the permission.
Administrators
Administrators are permitted to grant account creator, autopatrolled, confirmed, event coordinator, file mover, mass message sender, new page reviewer, page mover, pending changes reviewer, rollback and template editor flags to any user who meets the criteria explained above and can be trusted not to abuse the tool(s). Administrators may either grant these permissions permanently or temporarily. For convenience, a bot will automatically comment with relevant data if the user does not meet configurable qualifications. Even if the bot does not comment, administrators should review the user's contributions and logs to ensure the tools will be used appropriately and check for any indication of potential misuse.
Once an administrator has granted a permission or decided to deny a request, they should add {{done}} or {{not done}} respectively under the request with their comments. If a user already has the requested permission, or is autoconfirmed and requesting confirmed, {{already done}} should be used. N hours after the last comment was made (as specified by the config), the request will be archived automatically: approved requests will be placed here; declined requests will go here. See User:MusikBot/PermClerk#Archiving for more information on archiving functionality.
Other editors
Requests for permissions is primarily intended for editors requesting a permission for their own account. Other editors are welcome to comment if they have specific information that is relevant to that request that a patrolling administrator is unlikely to discover for themselves. Otherwise, since only administrators can effectively respond to these requests, general comments or 'clerking' by other users are rarely helpful. Non-administrators cannot "decline" to grant a request, because they're not in a position to accept it.
A limited exception to this is Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Autopatrolled, where third party nominations are encouraged. Other editors should still avoid offering general remarks on requests and leave the final decision to an administrator.

@VirreFriberg has created 71 articles since 2019, of which none have been deleted. They have 12 GAs and 1 FL. I had the pleasure of reviewing Each and Every Day, which they turned from a redirect into a high-quality, well researched article! I was surprised to see that they aren't already autopatrolled, as their articles are devoid of any issues! Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia! 11WB (talk) 17:07, 20 February 2026 (UTC)
- Hi, @11WB! Somehow (and embarrassingly) I've been unaware of the concept of autopatrolling during my almost 7 years editing on Wiki. Thanks for bringing it to light. Thanks for the compliment, I've found that my articles have increased in quality after The Wikipedia Library granted me access to various repositories and my grasp on the English language improved VirreFriberg (talk) 18:12, 20 February 2026 (UTC)
- No worries at all! AP just means article creations skip the new page feed, meaning reviewers such as myself don't need to mark them as reviewed, at which point they would be visible on search engines such as Google. TWL is a great resource! Your articles are very well researched, I specialise in music myself offwiki, so it is always nice to see articles such as those you have authored! Keep it up! 11WB (talk) 23:11, 20 February 2026 (UTC)
- Update: I have voluntarily requested my reviewer permissions be revoked since making this request. I considered withdrawing this, however I've decided against doing that. This will likely be the last AP request I make for the foreseeable future. Thanks! 11WB (talk) 02:10, 22 February 2026 (UTC)

I have created over 150 mainspace articles (primarily in the area of Film and TV). While some of my earlier creations were deleted, the majority of my recent articles remain live, and I have refined my sourcing and notability assessment standards over time. I am familiar with WP:N, WP:BLP, WP:V and WP:RS and I ensure that all new articles meet notability and sourcing standards prior to creation. As I continue to create new articles...I believe autopatrolled would help reduce workload for NPP, as my pages generally require minimal follow-up. I work with thousands of book cover images and also some film poster images and there are cases, though rare I will admit, where having this ability would be of use. - I'm a little concerned regarding your understanding of, and respect for, our notability requirements. For example at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Cotton, West Virginia, which was closed as delete by strong consensus, you argued in favour of keeping with no policy-based rationale without regard to WP:NPLACE. Similar story at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Aberdeen, West Virginia where you suggested keeping despite acknowledging that the place was not even mentioned in a comprehensive 400+ page county history book and "there is little evidence of it." At Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/National Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association you didn't engage with arguments about whether the organisation meets WP:NCORP and linked to a very poor source that fails WP:SIRS. I'm overall concerned that you will favourably review pages that don't meet requirements such as NPLACE and NORG. AusLondonder (talk) 02:26, 26 February 2026 (UTC)
- Metallurgist, could you comment on the !votes that AusLondonder has identified here? signed, Rosguill talk 20:44, 1 March 2026 (UTC)
- Yes of course. Overall, I try to find justification to keep things as an inclusionist, unless its blatant. Ill have to look these up somehow without benefit of the article. For Cotton, at the time, there were no delete comments, so consensus shifted. I did not get a chance to review those comments afterward. I believe I somewhat based it on what Nyttend said.
- For Aberdeen, I actually did call some office in the area seeking information, but they were not helpful. I called the historical society, but they were closed. When I said there was little evidence, I was referring to satellite view. It was mentioned as a postal village, not a post office. The map in that text did note a place there, altho in a search, did not refer to it, which could mean anything, including the search not catching it This is somewhat of a WP:SOURCESEXIST situation in my view. This did appear similar to other tiny WV towns I have seen on satellite over the years, with a piddling existence in the hills. I will note that Bearian and Randy Kryn took issue with deletion on these respectively on a similar basis. I would not have been opposed to a redirect, and I would like to see a lot of these ghost towns merged into lists or something, so they can be kept and documented, but often dont need their own article. There were two sources that indicated the existence of Aberdeen at some point. Being limited to online sources can hobble less readily documented things. A lot of this ultimately comes down to opinion.
- For NHBA, I put a weak keep and felt that the source indicated some notability.
- When I have reviewed pages, I verify the sources to the best of my ability, which is my main focus. Verifiability is a much bigger issue than notability, in my view. Unless something is blatantly false or not notable, thats often better resolved by the community than one reviewer. If I am not sure, I am perfectly fine skipping such an article. Im not sure its fair to be dinged for being less deletionist than others, but I do appreciate the feedback, which I did solicit. The few AFDs I have initiated were pretty blatantly IMO duplicative of other articles, or better described elsewhere.

- I think your response regarding the West Virginia locations is good but am less satisfied by the NHBPA, having just attempted to do a BEFORE for that organization myself. - @Rosguill I agree its a bit weak, which is why I said weak keep. I am often torn on AFDs, and I think its fair to disagree. In any respect, thanks for the extension. Do you have a recommendation on where I should be for actual reviews? Given my depth of trying to verify sources, it often takes awhile. I dont like to just skim an article for a review. ← Metallurgist (talk) 23:49, 2 March 2026 (UTC)

- Nyxion303, could you explain what happened to Draft:Government email systems? signed, Rosguill talk 21:32, 1 March 2026 (UTC)
- Hey @Rosguill, I imagine you mean in regards to the article's draftification and the AI-generated tag. To be completely upfront about the issue, yes I did use AI but in a limited way during when I was writing the article (and primarily for outline structure/copyediting/wording suggestions on text I had already written from sources especially because the nature of the topic was very technical).
- I didn’t use it generate actual references though, and I checked each cited source myself, all of which were found through independent web searches and/or actual government resources that are available. Obviously in hindsight, I know should have been clearer and more transparent about the use of AI, and I know AI outputs can drift into all sorts of factual errors if it isn't thoroughly checked.
- I’ve accepted the move to draft and I’m now trying to rewrite the affected parts in my own words (hence why I listed it on my user page). Going forward though, I'll avoid LLMs for article text entirely, or at the very least limit any use to minor copyediting through. As an NPP reviewer, I've taking the same approach in my patrol work. You’ll have noticed my tagging articles with the AI-generated tag and/or draftification of articles, so I am trying to hold myself accountable to the same standards. Nyxion303💬 Talk 00:16, 2 March 2026 (UTC)
- Ok, that sounds like a good approach. Overall, your review record looks ok, but it overwhelmingly consists of things like marking reviewed pages that have already been nominated for AfD by someone else. That's the right thing to do, but it isn't a good indicator of your understanding of the core guidelines underpinning article review. On that basis, I'll extend your trial run for another month. signed, Rosguill talk 23:04, 2 March 2026 (UTC)

- LeFaso: In-depth review of Hebié's work and considers whether he's a visionary.
- France 24: Film of Hebié's reported as creating a buzz at FESPACO.
- That all seemed to add up to notability to me. In hindsight, I should have looked at Muhskk's history. Though I get why this was removed (user was a sock), but I still think the subject may be notable enough to warrant an article. WidgetKid Converse 15:13, 2 March 2026 (UTC)

Thanks so much for approving a trial of new page reviewer rights. I’d like to apply to have this extended or made permanent, as I think I made a good start with several new articles, and I’m excited to continue learning and helping others to improve! I believe I gave thorough feedback (perhaps too thorough - have been warned of ‘tag bombing’ pages, and helpful pointers to page creators. Thank you! Medievalfran (talk) 11:22, 26 February 2026 (UTC)
Not done, you've done very little in terms of reviewing and those that were reviewed saw concerns. As such, I don't have confidence in your ability to review articles at the moment. I'd suggest participating in AFD or in article creation further before trying for this userright. Sohom (talk) 04:45, 2 March 2026 (UTC)

My New Page Reviewer rights expired, and I would like them renewed. I really learned a lot during my temporary period, and I believe that I now have a good grasp of the entire process and it's requirements. I also realize that I made a few errors, especially regarding the calls I made on some articles. I took my time to learn from my mistakes. I am eager to apply my knowledge with care and become more active with new pages patrol.

HurricaneZetaC 22:04, 1 March 2026 (UTC)
- @HurricaneZetaC Thank you for the question.
- In my previous reviews, my main errors were in a few cases where I incorrectly declined or tagged articles (for example, over-applying notability concerns without fully considering sources, or hasty CSD calls on borderline cases that needed more discussion or merging instead). I now better understand the nuances of WP:N, WP:GNG, WP:BEFORE, and when to use tags like notability, proposing deletion and or outright declining.
- I'll take more time on each review and use the Page Curation tools more deliberately, including checking edit history, talk pages, and related articles for context. So, if unsure about a borderline case, I'll mark as reviewed but unpatrolled or probably leave it for another reviewer rather than making a potentially incorrect call. I'll continue self-reviewing my own past actions via my contributions and learn from feedback and I plan to be more active in the NPP queue but at a sustainable pace to maintain accuracy over speed. MichealKal (talk) 07:48, 2 March 2026 (UTC)

over-applying notability concerns
- actually, it was the exact opposite, that you were letting some non-notable pages through.use the Page Curation tools more deliberately
- this means nothing, andI'll mark as reviewed but unpatrolled
- there's nothing like that, reviewing and patrolling are the same thing. I don't think this is a satisfactory response; please write in your own words. I like to request New Page Reviewer rights to help with the NPP backlog. I have been active in AfC work (draft clean-ups, sourcing checks, NPOV/WP:PEACOCK fixes, and resubmissions) and I’m comfortable applying WP:GNG, WP:RS/WP:SECONDARY, WP:V and basic deletion processes. I created 3 articles and 11 drafts in the last one week and I have the NPP dashboard on my userpage (with "not a reviewer" note) for a while purely to monitor backlog while working on drafts, and I’m now looking to help on the review side as well. Hi, I requested pagemover rights in 2023 and my request was denied due to lack of demonstrated need for the tools. Recently I've been doing more AFC (and to a lesser extent NPP) work, which prompted Kj cheetham to suggest I reapply for this permission so that I could draftify articles without leaving behind redirects. (Most recently, I moved Karamsad Anand Municipal Corporation (which WP:DRAFTIFY says I was too quick to move, but the creator has previously created multiple similarly-problematic articles so I decided to IAR.) —pythoncoder (talk | contribs) 13:34, 26 February 2026 (UTC)

Hi. I'm requesting Pending Changes Reviewer to accept pages under the pending changes, and to catch vandals disrupting the pending changes. This right would go well with my Temporary Account IP Viewer, as I can see Temporary Account IPs, which would help out for catching IP/Temporary account vandals who sent in a request on pending changes.
Here are my stats for Pending Changes Reviewer:
- I am active on Wikipedia.
- I have over 1,000 edits, with over 500 in the mainspace.
- I have read and understood all sections of WP:VANDAL and understand what is vandalism and what is not.
- I am familiar with all basic policies, including WP:BLP, WP:NPOV, WP:NOR, WP:V, and WP:NOT.
- I am familiar with WP:COPY.
- I have read the guideline on reviewing.
Thank you. If I am granted this, I will use the right responsibly. ~~PolishHamsteryeah 21:58, 27 February 2026 (UTC)

Hello! I am Phlogiston Enthusiast. I would like a moment of your time to request rollback rights. I believe that I could use rollback permissions to assist in anti-vandalism in the recent changes tab. There are multiple reasons for this. For one, it would streamline reverts on articles that need them, and be a useful tool against vandalism. This is because if a user is making edits of a vandalistic nature, they are likely to have made multiple. Rollback would assist with these issues and prevent long and drawn-out revert wars by vandals. Second, I believe that I meet the qualifications for the role. I possess experience patrolling the recent changes section, and have reverted many vandalous edits. If need be, I can attempt to provide a comprehensive list of the articles on which I have combatted vandalism. Finally, I understand that it looks bad to have had two arguments over vandalism-related subjects in the past. However, I would argue that this is almost the opposite, as having a clean record with no mistakes would mean that I had no mistakes to learn from, and as well I have apologized to all parties involved in both. In summary, I believe that I should possess rollback rights as to better combat vandalism, and if need be there can be elaboration. If not, I completely understand.
Ammending: this was written roughly a month ago. I was told that I would need one month's experience more before I should re-apply. I have since aqquired more than this. I have been the cause for scores of blocks and have better since de-vandalized the Wiki. Following my embarrasing mishap recently reguarding confusion over the tool, I have better researched it and now believe I would be more fit to utilize this. - I am a recent changes patroller and have been patrolling for a few months now,
- I have made more than 700 edits in mainspace and more than 1700 edits in total,
- Since I am already a pending changes reviewer, I am also used to reverting vandalism in some areas where it isn't visible to everyone yet, so I think I am trained for the job,

I've been dealing with repeated vandals who are now nearly impossible to discern based on their temporary user names. As an editor with 20-plus years of Wikipedia editing and a half million edits, I have enough knowledge and experience to use this permission wisely and appropriately for circumstances that would aid in identifying patterns of vandalism. - I've been dealing with vandalism to articles for the several hundred high schools in New Jersey that are on my watchlist. The temporary user names have made it impossible to detect if these are the acts of a single vandal rather than a single malicious individual. This has been a common occurrence that would make vandal-fighting that much easier, rather than deleting each as one-time vandalism, which is what I've been forced to do.
