The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered was one of the most popular games that released last year, but I think it's also fair to say that it was one of the jankiest as well. Not only did the game launch with a series of performance issues, but also a nasty memory leak that made the game's problems intensify the further that a player got into a gaming session.

Despite this, the patches for the game were few and far between, with the last one coming in July, despite the protestations of those that still thought the game had several problems. Back in October, many were concerned that Bethesda and Virtuos had simply abandoned the game, and four months deep into 2026, it seems as though those fears were warranted.

Oblivion Remastered Is Still Considered Pretty Broken

Given that Oblivion Remastered is meant to be the definitive version of the game, the fact that it still runs so poorly should be another stain on Bethesda's reputation, and a year on, you still have tech experts like Digital Foundry claiming that the game is "still broken."

If Fallout 3 Makes A Comeback, I Hope It's Nothing Like Oblivion Remastered

Fallout 3 Remastered can't simply be a repeat of Oblivion's success. It needs to be something more.

After testing the game a year later, Digital Foundry explains that Oblivion Remastered is still suffering from hitches and stuttering frame rates, enough to distract and put people off from playing. It's also speculated that, since the game has only received two patches in its entire lifespan, the memory leak issue is most likely still prevalent, though that hasn't been tested just yet.

As for if there are any chances of the game getting fixed, they're pretty low, but one of the only sparks of hope for Oblivion players is the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 port, which may have Bethesda and Virtuos revisit the game across all platforms. Personally, I think that's wishful thinking, and given that the port actually looks quite bad, I wouldn't get your hopes up for a long overdue fix.
