Oblivion Remastered is supposed to be the definitive way to play the fourth mainline Elder Scrolls game, but for some, that is far from the truth. Ever since an update in July, players have complained about performance issues, particularly stuttering. Some say that the game actually runs worse now than it did at launch - and, of course, the update had the added bonus of messing with everyone's modded saves.
Now, it's been almost four months since the last patch, and there's no word on when, or even if, we're getting another one. In the meantime, players are losing hope and leaving negative reviews on the Oblivion Remastered Steam page to warn others of the problems they're facing on PC.
Oblivion Remastered Fans Are Worried It Won't Get Another Update
"I've had it on the digital shelf for some time now, waiting and praying for another update with QoL and performance fixes," says Reddit user switchkick562. "But it's starting to seem like they just abandoned it."
Others feel much the same, even those who have already started playing the game. "Beat the main quest and basically don’t plan to return to it unless they fix the stuttering. Makes me really sad," says RandyMuscle.
Many blame the engine used for Oblivion Remastered, Unreal Engine 5. This gets blamed for a lot of issues in the PC releases of more recent games, something we're also seeing with The Outer Worlds 2 not that it's out.
However, it does seem that the last update only exacerbated issues. As we covered previously, the Steam reviews fell to mixed after many players on PC experienced issues after the update, including stuttering and a lack of support for higher graphics settings. Many of the negative reviewers say that the game is now poorly optimised, and as there's still no word on another patch, they worry that this is the state that the game will be left in.
With that said, neither Virtuos nor Bethesda has said that development of Oblivion Remastered has concluded. Indeed, Virtuos also works on updates for Cyberpunk 2077, which drop without a great deal of warning and with a good amount of time between them. So, there's a decent chance there is something being worked on behind the scenes.
