Mixtape clearly isn't just a hit with critics, as it's currently the third highest-reviewed 2026 release on the PlayStation Store, and has already hit "Overwhelmingly Positive" reviews on Steam.

We probably should have learned from Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 last year that sometimes the biggest and best-reviewed games come out of nowhere and surprise us. When Pokopia and Pragmata emerged as some of the highest-rated games, it didn't come as a big shock, but the same can't quite be said of Mixtape.

While Mixtape does come from the esteemed developer of the brilliant Artful Escape and has personally been on my radar for a while, I don't think anyone was expecting it to review quite so well. When Mixtape launched earlier this week, its glowing reviews from critics meant it quickly became 2026's highest-rated game, and it turns out that most players are loving it just as much.

Mixtape Is The Third-Highest Rated Game Of The Year So Far On The PS Store

It's Also Got A Rare "Overwhelmingly Positive" Score On Steam

Ever since Mixtape's reviews dropped, I've been waiting to see if players would respond to it as positively as critics have, as the two aren't always aligned, especially when something is so noticeably lauded. I'm happy to say that Mixtape is being just as well-received by its playerbase, as it's currently rocking a 4.89 score on the PlayStation Store.

This puts it as the third-highest-reviewed game of 2026 so far on the platform, with only two games managing to score ahead of it. The first is Resident Evil Requiem, which just inches ahead of Mixtape with a 4.90 score on the PS Store, and the second is Hades 2 with a stellar 4.91 score that awards it the top spot.

It's worth noting that Mixtape's position is in motion, as it's only received around 1,100 reviews so far, while Hades and Requiem have far more than that (5.5k and 81k, respectively). Even if it looks likely that Mixtape ends up moving around a bit, especially when some of the year's biggest games end up releasing, it's a very strong start for the game.

Mixtape isn't just topping the charts on PlayStation, either, as its reviews on Steam are also very strong. As of the time of writing, it's sitting at an "Overwhelmingly Positive" review score on the platform, with 95 percent of its nearly 1,700 reviews being positive so far. It's great to see an indie game get so much love, and I'm hoping that reflects in its sales.

I'm happy to say that my own personal Game of the Year candidate, Dead as Disco, has the same review "Overwhelmingly Positive" review score on Steam, with the same percentage of positive reviews. It's a good year for indies, folks.

Mixtape is an excellent, more grounded follow up to The Artful Escape.
