I cannot believe I am saying this, but MindsEye is still going, and the studio head is still banging on about sabotage.
In a bizarre interview with GamesBeat, Build a Rocket Boy CEO Mark Gerhard says that the so-called saboteurs who apparently ruined MindsEye's chances of success are now being investigated by the police. He further claims that these investigations, said to be taking place in the US and UK, could lead to arrests... and that fans will be kept in the loop via updates to MindsEye. Yes, really.
Build A Rocket Boy CEO Says The Police Are Investigating "Corporate Sabotage" Against The Studio, And Is Optimistic About MindsEye's Future
“We’ve got very strong evidence of this and conducted quite thorough investigations over the months since launch," Gerhard tells GamesBeat. "We’ve identified parties involved, and it’s now with the authorities, both UK and US, to deal with."
Oh, but of course, he does not stop there. "I can confirm that they’re assisting us with this investigation, but it’s also in their hands now," he says. "We’ll leave them to do what they do, make their arrests or any announcements in due course. I think we’re not saying anything further at this stage on that. We’ll just let the natural course of justice take its path."
Well, let's digest this for a second. As we can see, Gerhard seems quite confident that people are going to be arrested for hurting Build a Rocket Boy from within. Perhaps that's through leaks, because I'm not quite sure what else he could be referring to here. I am also not sure how a lack of leaks would have improved anything. I think MindsEye's reviews would have been terrible regardless.
It doesn't end there. Elsewhere in the interview, Gerhard spoke about future updates coming to MindsEye. Here, he says that the team will be "using that to share some of the evidence of the sabotage with the community," whatever the hell that means. Are the saboteurs going to be added to MindsEye? Will we get missions that are inspired by the sabotage? In fairness, that would make up for the now-cancelled Hitman crossover.
Whatever the case, MindsEye clearly isn't going anywhere, as long as Gerhard has anything to say about it. He claims that reviews are better now (they are not) and the refund rate was never as bad as everyone said it was, so updates are still planned, including user-generated content.
