Reviews for Bubsy 4D have gone live ahead of its launch tomorrow, and it's finally broken the bobcat's three-decade-old curse and given him a well-received game.

If there's one thing that we all know about Bubsy, it's that most of his games just aren't all that good. The first two side-scrolling titles were Sonic-likes with some positive elements that sadly didn't outweigh the negatives. Then there's Bubsy 3D, which is widely regarded as one of the worst platformers (and sometimes even games) of all time.

3D is Bubsy's low point for sure, but his more recent releases haven't fared much better, leaving him with no truly good games to his name. The bobcat had one more big chance at a genuinely good game with Bubsy 4D, and now that reviews have been shared before its launch, it looks like he's finally done it, although not everyone is as in love with it as I am.

Bubsy 4D Reviews Confirm The Series Finally Has A Good Game

I Can't Help Feeling A Bit Emotional For The Annoying Guy

Reviews for Bubsy 4D have just gone live and, perhaps unsurprisingly, they've instantly resulted in it being the highest-rated Bubsy game of all time, with a strong 75 on OpenCritic as of the time of writing. While it seems like most people are digging the bobcat's latest game, it's fair to say that it's not quite a universal love, with some less stellar reviews in the mix.

Bubsy 4D Is A Near-Masterful Platformer, And That’s Not As Surprising As It Sounds

Bubsy 4D is one of my favourite platformers in some time, and would be a guaranteed all-timer if it were just a little bit longer.

Let's kick things off with my review for TheGamer, which was a very paw-sitive one. I gave Bubsy 4D a 4/5, praising its expressive platforming, reinvention of the loveably annoying bobcat, and moreish speedrunning, while noting that it's a little too short if you're not going for 100 percent completion.

Gamer Social Club's DeMandre "LetalisVenator" Pressley also gave Bubsy an 8/10, similarly loving the new version of Bubsy and its platforming, while hoping for a little bit more content. PlayStation Universe's 7.5/10 review from Joe Richards had similar praise for the game, while also critiquing its overall short length.

On the slightly lower end, GameGrin's review by Joshua Render awarded Bubsy 4D a 7/10 with, you guessed it, many of the same comments about length and platforming. The Mirror's Aaron Potter rated Bubsy's newest adventure 3/5, with both the praise and criticisms aimed at the same place - its platforming and length.

While a good number of the Bubsy 4D reviews are positive overall, some reviewers really didn't get on with it. Game Informer's Wesley LeBlanc gave Bubsy 4D a 4/10 due to its "terrible writing", "passable" platforming, and "muddy visuals". Gameliner's Joey Visser went for a 2/5 for Bubsy 4D, noting that it's fun for some "simple platforming" and not much else.

As you can plainly see, there's quite a range of opinions on Bubsy 4D, although most seem to agree that it's a strong platformer that just needed to be a little bit longer in the tooth.
