Unknown Worlds has been hard at work on Subnautica 2, making it the best game it can be despite it being in early access. We've had a bunch of promises recently via a cool-looking roadmap, which includes the likes of proximity chat and other multiplayer features, but there have been a couple of issues that have revolved around the game since launch.

Unknown Worlds has been adamant that it will not be introducing a way to kill the game's wildlife, saying that the game is more about exploration and the feeling of being weak that is most important. There has been a small section of fans unhappy about this, and the problem has been made worse by just how aggressive certain enemies are.

Hammerheads in particular have been a bit of a nuisance, spawning around bases and beating up Tadpoles, and the lack of tools to actually shoo them away and do anything about them has increased calls for a method of permanent removal.

Unknown Worlds Devs Release A Letter For Subnautica 2 Fans

Unknown Worlds has taken this feedback in a number of ways, not all of them constructive. For example, one developer decided it would be a good idea to tell players to "go play Sons of the Forest or something", which went down about as well as you'd expect.

All of this has resulted in a fairly toxic atmosphere surrounding the game online, and in a new Reddit post on the Subnautica subreddit, Unknown Worlds has taken some steps to address this. For starters, it apologized for some of the comments that have been made recently, and for making players feel "ignored or dismissed."

It then goes into detail regarding its efforts to work on creature mitigation, and some of the features they're working on to combat it:

"We are actively working on improvements to creature behavior and player mitigation tools. Upcoming changes will include adjustments to creature aggression timing, aggro range, flare effectiveness, Survival Tool effectiveness, and creature interactions with vehicles and bases. These changes will be delivered over a series of upcoming patches."

It's a pretty decent apology and promise to the community, and while it still maintains that killing will not be coming Subnautica 2 any time soon, it does explain that it will start explaining its decisions regarding development "respectfully" in the future.
