Best Apple Watch for Most People

Apple Watch Series 11

4.5 Outstanding
  • Nearly two days of battery life in testing
  • Now supports 5G
  • FDA-approved hypertension notifications
  • WatchOS 26 delivers helpful new features
  • Vibrant screen
  • Slim design
  • More durable
  • Same specs and sensors as the previous model
  • Sleep Score and Workout Buddy lack depth

The Apple Watch Series 11 marks the first major improvement in battery life for a Series watch since the original, increasing to an estimated 24 hours from 18 hours for all previous flagship models. As usual, Apple's estimates are conservative; the Series 11 lasted 43 hours in our testing, up from 36 hours in the previous generation. The Series 11 also adds an Ion-X coating to increase the scratch resistance of its screen and a 5G antenna for faster download speeds when you're away from your phone. Also new to this generation are hypertension notifications, which can alert you to signs of high blood pressure.

Otherwise, it carries forward the same sleek design as the Series 10, including a bright and vibrant wide-angle OLED display. It offers a robust sensor suite to track health metrics like blood oxygen saturation (SpO2), heart rate, ECG, and skin temperature. Its new watchOS 26 software includes a number of helpful features, such as an AI-powered Workout Buddy that offers words of encouragement while you exercise, a Sleep Score metric that provides a holistic view of the data it collects overnight, and a wrist flick gesture to dismiss calls and alarms.

Overall, the Series 11 offers the most attractive combination of design, features, and price of the bunch, so it's our top Apple Watch pick for most people.

Apple fans: The Series 11 gives you access to all of Apple's latest features and software, without needing to pay up for extra durability you might not need in the Ultra 3.

Athletes: The Series 11 has all of the company's exercise and health-tracking features, and it's less bulky than the Ultra 3.

Fashion lovers: Offering a sleek design and the largest selection of finishes and bands of the trio, the Apple Watch Series 11 is the best choice if you want a look tailored to your style.

Workaholics: The Series 11 has tools to help you manage your sleep and stress. It has loads of apps to help with productivity, and its smart stack of widgets can keep you up-to-date with important reminders.

Most Affordable Apple Watch

Apple Watch SE 3

4.0 Excellent
  • Sharp always-on display
  • Same processor as the Series 11
  • Nearly two days of battery life
  • Supports 5G
  • Gesture controls
  • Lacks sensors for blood oxygen, ECG, and hypertension
  • No QWERTY keyboard for text input
  • Large bezels

The Apple Watch SE 3 offers excellent value, as it has the same processor as the flagship Series 11, plus 5G connectivity, and an always-on display. It launches with watchOS 26, so it has access to the company's latest software features, including Sleep Score and Workout Buddy. It even outpaced the Series 11 in our battery life testing, lasting 46 hours. Add in gesture controls, built-in Siri, and wrist temperature sensing, and the SE 3 does most of what you'd expect from a flagship smartwatch for much less money.

Of course, it doesn't do everything that the Series 11 can do. It's missing hypertension notifications, dust protection, blood oxygen and ECG sensors, and a depth gauge. It also comes in smaller sizes, and the screen is dimmer with noticeably larger bezels. None of these are deal-breakers, though, and if you're looking for value, the SE 3 is the Apple Watch for you.

Budget shoppers: The Apple Watch SE 3 is the most affordable Apple Watch, and unless you're comparing them side by side or know what missing features to look for, it has the feel and performance of the Series 11 for $150 less. Thanks to watchOS 26, it even has the same list of activity, exercise, and sleep tracking features.

First-time smartwatch buyers: If you're new to smartwatches, the Apple Watch SE 3 will immediately impress with its excellent performance and wide feature set, and you likely don't need to spend more for the few sensors separating it from the Series 11.

Older or younger users: If you're getting a watch for a family member who's less tech savvy, you can set up the Apple Watch SE 3 for them, and they'll still get the same snappy, polished experience. This is also an excellent pick for school-age children, with support for emergency calling and parental location tracking. When paired with a cellular plan (typically around $10 per month), it serves as a stopgap if you don’t want to buy your child a phone yet.

Best Apple Watch for Adventurers

Apple Watch Ultra 3

4.0 Excellent
  • Supports satellite connectivity for off-grid communication
  • 5G comes standard
  • Longest battery life of any Apple Watch
  • Vibrant, wide-angle OLED display
  • FDA-approved hypertension notifications
  • Expensive
  • Bulky
  • Same sensors as the previous model

The Ultra 3 is the biggest, most powerful, and priciest Apple Watch. It's priced more like an iPhone than an Apple Watch, but it works hard to justify its cost. It has the longest battery life of the line, lasting nearly three full days on a charge in the real world. Plus, 5G comes standard on the Ultra 3 for fast downloads when you're away from your phone, and it's the only Apple Watch with satellite connectivity. If you're adventuring out of cell service range, you can use satellites to contact emergency services, send texts, and keep your loved ones up to date with your location.

Additionally, the Ultra 3 is much more durable than its siblings and can withstand extreme temperatures, deep submersion, and high altitudes. It also has a superior altimeter, depth gauge, and GPS antenna than the Series 11.

Since it matches the Series 11 in exercise monitoring and lifestyle features, you probably don't need to pay the premium for the Ultra 3 for day-to-day activities, but it's worth the money if you're into mountain biking, water expeditions, or other adventurous activities.

Adventurers: The obvious one. If you want a watch to keep up with you on your outdoor excursions, the Ultra 3 is your best bet. It can hold up to climbing, hiking, mountain biking, and even water sports like diving and jet skiing. The emergency satellite connectivity will offer peace of mind as you wander off the beaten path.

Endurance athletes: Since it lasts nearly three full days on a single charge, the Ultra 3 is the best Apple Watch for prolonged activity with the GPS firing.

Shoppers unwilling to compromise: Even if you don't go on adventures regularly, the Ultra 3 has the most premium and durable build of the line. It also boasts the highest feature count with its dual-frequency GPS, customizable Action button, emergency siren, satellite connectivity, and extended altimeter and depth gauge range. You might not even use all of its features, but if you just want the top model regardless of price, this is the one.
