Rick Collins ITIL, DCIE - Retired posted thisToday, it's official, I have retired. After 48 years working for some great companies, I decided to take some time off. No more carrying two cellphones, no more P1 calls at 2 AM, just time with the family and granddaughter, some reading, and an advisory board or two. Maybe a PODCAST in my future as well, and some other exciting news a little later

George spent 6 years at Mastercard as EVP and Chief Technology Officer, Operations — a Management Committee member responsible for the performance and modernization of the technology and platform services powering Mastercard's global network: 175 billion transactions across 210 countries and territories every year. He drove operational resilience, sustainable IT practices (co-authoring Mastercard's case study featured in the SustainableIT Playbook), the first agentic transaction on the Mastercard network, and large-scale AI enablement across the organization. Before Mastercard: leadership roles at AIG, UBS, AT&T, General Motors, and Merrill Lynch. Board member, The Johns Hopkins University Engineering alum, and CNBC Technology Executive Council member. Rick Collins ITIL, DCIE - Retired liked thisRick Collins ITIL, DCIE - Retired liked thisThis scene is so much a Services-as-Software scene! Situation: A chef’s pizza is so good only a hundred people a night get to try it. Inherent capacity constraints in a restaurant, isn’t it? The wise guy chips in: what about everyone else? His pitch: start with frozen pizza, then sauces, then gelato. Package the whole experience. In enterprise tech, the most brilliant work is usually trapped in delivery: A star architect who builds a one-off data pipeline for a bank. A crack compliance team that invents a faster way to do KYC checks. An AI pilot that cuts response times but never gets out of one business unit. These are the pizzas only a few lucky customers ever taste. The leap comes when you productize the workflow: 48-hour CRM cleanse packaged as a fixed-scope “app.” AI pilot evaluation as a plug-and-play assessment service. Bank-in-a-Box as a modular platform offer. You’re not diluting the craft. You’re packaging it so more clients can consume it, investors can value it, and buyers can trust it at scale. That’s how chefs become brands. And how services become platforms. At IntelStack, I work with founders and service leaders to make just that leap: packaging high-craft delivery into repeatable, valued offers that scale. If you’re sitting on “the best pizza in town” and want more people to taste it, let’s talk. ♻️ Share if your team has work trapped in delivery. ➕ Follow me here for more practical insights on turning services into platforms.

Rick Collins ITIL, DCIE - Retired liked thisRick Collins ITIL, DCIE - Retired liked thisYou Want to Sell Millions? Then Package It With the Right Idea. There are moments in business where one decision changes everything. Not because of technology. Not because of capital. But because of positioning. When Nintendo prepared to launch the Game Boy, the default thinking was clear: lead with a flagship title for a specific audience. Then came a different perspective. If you want to sell to a niche, package for the niche. If you want to scale globally, package for everyone. That shift, from targeting a segment to embracing universality, transformed a product into a global phenomenon. For executive leaders, the lesson is simple. Growth is rarely just about building a better product. It’s about aligning strategy, marketing, and user experience around the right value proposition. What are we packaging with our product? Who is it truly for? Are we limiting our reach by how we position it? Because sometimes the difference between thousands and millions isn’t execution. It’s perspective. And when the right idea meets the right strategy, scale follows. #Leadership #Strategy #Innovation

Windows closed — the room feels suffocating. Windows open — drilling noise takes over. Students restless. Professor adjusting his tone. One girl quietly stands up. She walks to the window and says, “Excuse me… we have a little problem. It’s extremely hot when the window is closed, and extremely noisy when it’s open. I was wondering if you could maybe work somewhere else for about 45 minutes?” The worker replies, “Not a problem.” She smiles. “Thank you so much.” Silence returns. The lecture continues. And the professor says, “As you will find in multivariable calculus, there’s often more than one solution to any given problem.” A lesson beyond the syllabus. Here’s what this moment taught me: 👉 𝗤𝘂𝗶𝗲𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽. You don’t need authority to create change. You need clarity and the willingness to step forward. 👉 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗱𝗼𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿. She didn’t complain or command. She asked — and cooperation followed naturally. 👉 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗼𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. Heat or noise weren’t the only options. Communication created a third path. 👉 𝗜𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆. One calm action shifted the atmosphere of the entire room. That’s influence in motion. In business and in life, many conflicts aren’t solved by dominance — they’re solved by dialogue.
