Gaurav Mittal shared thisJohn Oliver and HBO just made the case we’ve been making at Ethoca and Mastercard for a while: cancelling subscriptions should not be harder than signing up. It’s a design choice and right now, in many cases, it’s the wrong one. As John notes, cancelling a subscription can take a phone tree, a chat bot, and a small piece of your soul. Giving people control over their subscriptions delivers fewer disputes, happier customers, and more trust. Responsible business also happens to be good business. If you’re a merchant with a subscription model, or a bank looking to hand your cardholders the steering wheel — let’s talk. A link to our capabilities is included in the comments. John, how about a follow-up episode to demo some of Ethoca’s subscription management capabilities for your audience? https://lnkd.in/dB_hFPiHSubscriptions: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO)Subscriptions: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO)

Gaurav Mittal shared this“Wind your watch, light a cigarette.” In moments of crisis, the instinct to act quickly can be overwhelming. This article reflects on the tragic incident involving a Korean airline plane that crashed after colliding with a flock of birds. It emphasizes a crucial technique that pilots are taught: instead of rushing to respond, they are trained to slow down. From the article: Chaos [can test] anybody’s nerves. Instinct screams: Do something. Fast. Instead, “Wind your watch,” was what they were once told. “Light a cigarette.” Ludo Gysels, a retired pilot and trainer, noted, “We were trained to wait. First get the pieces together before you decide on a course of action.” This feels like worthy reflection for leaders facing their own crises - whether navigating the impact of Artificial Intelligence on their businesses, addressing funding and valuation challenges, or managing a tough quarter. Take a moment, gather the information and reflect before you decide. And then LFG. All the way. #Leadership #holdtheline

Gaurav Mittal shared thisCulture eats strategy for breakfast. Here is how Mastercard is going about building its culture based on three fundamental principles. The three principles, collectively labeled “The Mastercard Way” are: Create Value, Move Fast, Grow Together. **Create Value:** This principle underscores Mastercard’s unwavering focus on its clients. It emphasizes that action is not enough: outcomes matter. Befitting of a global network that processes two hundred billion transactions, it is also siren call to think big and bold and innovate with intention. **Grow Together:** For our clients, this principle embodies Mastercard’s partnership-oriented approach and focus on seeking win-win approaches. By fostering a culture of collaboration, diverse perspectives, honest communication, and investing in personal development, Mastercard creates a supportive environment where teams can excel. **Move Fast:** In a fast-paced world brimming with ideas, this principle guides towards experimentation, to adapt swiftly and prioritize effectively, ensuring responsiveness and relevance in a dynamic landscape. These principles are not theoretical concepts hanging on hallway posters - but integral parts of Mastercard's operational fabric. Leaders are expected to embody these values, teams are regularly surveyed to assess organizational performance against set goals, and individuals are evaluated (and even compensated) based on their adherence to these principles. As a result, every interaction and every day presents an opportunity to model these aspirational behaviors and embed them in the culture. Reflecting on these principles, do you have a favorite among these principles? Is there a specific order in which you emphasize them for your teams? Are there other organizations whose cultural initiatives you find noteworthy or inspiring? #Culture #Values #Leadership #OrganizationalSuccess Mastercard Ethoca

Gaurav Mittal shared thisWhat can poems teach us about business? In a recent discussion with a new leader on my team, we discussed collaboration between product and technology functions. We delved into Robert Frost's poem, Mending Wall. In this literary piece, Frost emphasizes the significance of boundaries and the need and bridge the "wall." Frost eloquently writes, “The gaps, I mean. No one has seen them made or heard them made, but at spring mending time, we find them there.” He continues, "I let my neighbor know beyond the hill and on a day we meet to walk the line” and concludes, “Good fences make good neighbors.” His lines encapsulate the need for clear boundaries but also a shared purpose, essential for effective collaboration between organizations, in this case product & tech leaders. Reflecting on the need for revisiting gaps in partnerships, Frost's words highlight the necessity for continuous communication even in the closest of relationships. In larger firms in the Financial Services industry, the challenge of aligning product and technology functions is evident. Frost's insights shed light on the importance of deliberate partnerships and shared objectives. Check out the poem "Mending Wall" by Robert Frost for valuable lessons on teamwork and collaboration. Gaurav Mittal liked thisGaurav Mittal liked thisMost companies hire for youth. The smartest ones hire for experience. Because experience does not just fill a role. It walks in knowing what breaks. What to watch for. What nobody in the room has seen yet. And what to do when everything goes sideways. A 24 year career does not fit on a highlight reel. It fits in the moment when everything depends on someone knowing exactly what to do. That is the moment experience wins. Every single time. Most hiring decisions chase potential. The best ones recognise proven. And here is what nobody says out loud about experience: It is not just knowledge. It is judgment. Pattern recognition. Calm under fire. The quiet confidence of someone who has already survived the thing you are worried about. You cannot teach that in an onboarding session. You cannot shortcut it with a certification. Experience is the only thing that compounds with age and gets more valuable the longer someone carries it. Here is what 24 years of experience actually looks like in a room: → They spot the problem before it becomes the crisis → They know which battles to fight and which ones to let go → They have seen enough to stay calm when everyone else is panicking → They bring solutions that only come from having failed before and rebuilt anyway → They earn trust in a room faster than any title ever could The smartest leaders in business are not the ones who hire the most impressive resumes. They are the ones who recognise that some things cannot be learned quickly. They cannot be rushed. They cannot be faked. Experience earned over decades is not a consolation prize for growing older. It is the most valuable asset any business can bring into its walls. Stop overlooking it. Stop undervaluing it. Start hiring it before your competitors do. Because the decision that makes your business easier. Faster. Stronger. Might already be sitting in the room waiting for someone wise enough to say yes. Have you ever hired someone whose experience changed everything for your business? It was a great exchange, bringing together different perspectives from across the payments ecosystem and allowing us to discuss the challenges each player faces. We had a holistic conversation about the role of each stakeholder in the chargeback lifecycle and, more importantly, how collaboration across issuers, networks, acquirers, and merchants can help streamline processes and improve outcomes with the support of AI. A special shoutout to Gustavo Pereira, for joining me in this meeting, and to our colleagues from Porto Seguro Juliana Yaginuma Virgínia Bernardino and iFood João Pedro Zaidan Figueiredo for the insightful discussion. Thank you to Mastercard Daniela Antibas Amirabile Andre B. Newton Prates for bringing everyone together and creating the space for such a valuable conversation. Gaurav Mittal liked thisGaurav Mittal liked thisNo CDN or WAF vendor made The Forrester Wave™: Bot and Agent Trust Management Software, Q2 2026. That is not an oversight, it is the point. A CDN decides how fast a request travels. It doesn't decide whether that request should exist. Is this a customer? An AI agent acting on a customer's behalf? A scraper? Someone taking over an account? That is a different question, and it gets harder every month. Which is why 60% of our customers run both: a CDN and DataDome. Differentiation you can and cannot control In my work with managers, I help them understand the external context around their firm and strategy – the part of their story that materially impacts outcomes with LPs and that they mostly can’t control. The “haves vs. have-nots” reality In this market, the gap between funds that clear and funds that don’t is stark. Managers mostly hear from peers about how hard fundraising is; LPs mostly spend time with oversubscribed managers and have the very real option of writing zero new checks. Time in market and visible momentum become simple, powerful signals. What you can do: run a real IR program between fundraises to drive re‑ups; don’t go to new LPs without clear momentum (meaningful 50%+ first close, real soft commits, credible anchors); and assume you need to work 3x harder than you think on LP relationships between funds. Endorsements > decks Your materials, views, and portfolio stories are complex; an endorsement from someone who already made an LP a lot of money is simple and compelling. Many managers start LP conversations on “higher trust” because they arrive via those GPs. What you can do: stop treating VC as only a game of weak ties. You need deep, durable relationships with investors whom LPs view as credible sources. If you don’t yet have enough co‑investors who would give you warm intros, you’re probably not ready to manage external capital. Time in market is a signal Managers like to share charts showing longer fundraising timelines, with the implied message that it’s fine to be in market for ages because “everyone is.” LPs use that same variable to separate outliers from the pack. What you can do: fundraise between fundraises. Understand true demand, improve the firm’s investability, set conservative targets, run short processes – and remember the fund is just a construct. If you’re deploying well and can point to real signs of judgment and access, you can always come back sooner. Thanks for reading Lynxpoints 🐾. Full text here https://lnkd.in/gCuDg6K8

What does the "new era" of private equity look like? This week at PEI NEXUS, Bain & Company's Chairman of Global Private Equity Practice Hugh MacArthur recapped the firm's latest Global Private Equity Report. Hugh noted that firms will need to focus on what they do well in a “new era” for private equity. These sentiments echoed much of what Private Wealth Forum speakers, including Arax Investment Partners Founder and CEO Haig Ariyan, Laird Norton Wetherby CIO Ron Albahary, CFA, Ardian Managing Director, US Private Wealth Solutions Ava Mallin, and Citi Wealth Head of Private Equity and Real Estate Jeffrey Locke, shared on stage at PEI. This week's AGM Alts Weekly dives into what a "new era" in private equity might look like, connecting dots and data points from Bain & Company and McKinsey & Company's 2026 reports on the state of the private equity industry. Some key themes defined the takeaways from both reports: ➡️ Returns will not be a dime a dozen: Bain's punchline? "12 is the new 5." ➡️ Megadeals, big questions: 2025 witnessed an increase in global buyout deal value. However, just 13 deals of $10B or more contributed 69% of the growth in 2025, accounting for $274B of the global gain. ➡️ A K-shaped industry: Private equity appears to turning into a K-shaped industry, with “a subset of elite funds [being] on the upswing while everyone else muddles through.” ➡️ No fun in fundraising: McKinsey noted that core, closed-end fundraising has “become more competitive, selective, and time consuming.” ➡️ Continuation nation: There’s been a marked rise in continuation vehicle activity, but only represents less than 10% of exit value. ➡️ Mid-sized deals not so mid: Megadeal activity grabbed the headlines. But deal sizes $1-5B deals grew 29%. Growth in the $1-5B deal size segment could be encouraging for specialist buyout funds. There are some key questions for allocators to grapple with as they think about what private equity might look like in the future. 1️⃣ Do allocators believe public markets will continue to outperform private markets? 2️⃣ Will fundraising bounce back? 3️⃣ Can firms kick value creation into motion? 4️⃣ Are both GPs and LPs ready to handle how investors might look to exit evergreen vehicles? 5️⃣ For LPs, are they finding managers that have an edge? Read on for more👇 This week's Alt Goes Mainstream's AGM Alts Weekly, brought to you by DealsPlus, covers: 🗂️ AGM Index, an index that tracks the leading publicly traded alternative asset managers. 💻 Who is hiring: Senior-level positions from companies Blackstone, KKR, Apollo Global Management, Inc., Ares Management, EQT Group, Blue Owl Capital, Franklin Templeton, Fortress Investment Group, iCapital, Goldman Sachs, Ultimus Fund Solutions, Krilogy, MSCI Inc.
