Bryan Venzen reposted thisBryan Venzen reposted thisIt's been a busy few weeks at Elk King Media! 🦌👑 I've been working closely with the fantastic teams at Curve Games and Wayfinder Studios on Wyldheart, and it's been brilliant to see the response to the game's first playable demo. With over 8,000 games competing for attention during Steam Next Fest, it's been particularly exciting to see Wyldheart reach some fantastic milestones: 🎮 215,000+ demo players 🏆 Within the 20 Most-Played Steam Next Fest Demos ⭐ 500,000+ Steam wishlists 🎬 Behind the scenes, I've been supporting community and social media management, engaging with players across Steam, Reddit and social channels, gathering and analysing feedback, and delivering performance and sentiment reporting. I've also been coordinating video editors, managing content production pipelines, and planning and producing social content throughout the campaign. ❤️ Wayfinder Studios is a team of just 10 passionate developers bringing their vision to life. Helping bridge the gap between the developers and their players, communicating what makes Wyldheart special and ensuring community feedback helps inform development and marketing has been one of the most rewarding parts of the experience. Having the opportunity to work with my old friend and former Square Enix colleague Erin Bower again has been another real highlight! 💡 It's been a great opportunity to draw on my 10 years in games and 15 years in creative marketing, combining strategic thinking with hands-on delivery. My experience spans everything from leading campaigns across AAA, AA and indie games to video production, editing, graphic design and content creation, with projects across gaming, music, live events and education. 🚀 As I continue growing Elk King Media, I have availability for additional freelance projects alongside my work with Curve Games and Wayfinder Studios. Whether you're looking for someone to help shape your strategy, manage your community or bring creative ideas to life, I'd love to hear from you! I'm also open to exploring the right longer-term opportunities in community, player experience and content leadership, and always keen to connect with people and teams doing exciting things! #ElkKingMedia #VideoGames #CommunityManagement #SocialMediaMarketing #IndieGames

Bryan Venzen reposted thisBryan Venzen reposted thisWyldheart has made it into the top 20 most played games of Steam Next Fest October 2026, a record-breaking festival with over 8000 demos! Seeing this banner appear on our Steam page is such an honour. Passing 500,000 wishlists last week and having over 220,000 unique players try our demo during such a busy festival has really touched our hearts. I'm so grateful to everyone who helped us get here. Our tiny team of only 10 devs at Wayfinder Studios have poured so much love and passion into making Wyldheart, and I think players can feel that authentic energy when they watch or play our game. I'm also so thankful to work alongside a team that trusted and supported my marketing vision from day one. It's been a busy year: defining our place in a crowded market, writing store page copy, concepting keyart, producing and voicing trailers, planning our PAX reveal, running a Kickstarter campaign, creating countless shortform videos that reached millions of viewers, and ultimately securing publishing support from Curve Games. As proud as I am of everything we've accomplished together, there's still something very nerve wracking about shooting our "one silver bullet" by submitting our game to Steam Next Fest. You only get one shot, and every game dev sweats over hitting that submission button. So to see everything pay off with this kind of reception from players means so much. Our demo is available until November 2nd, so if you haven't had a chance to play it yet, make sure to give it a try this weekend and let us know what you think!

Bryan Venzen reposted thisBryan Venzen reposted thisHappy Friday everyone. Earlier this week our game Wyldheart passed 500 000 wishlists. For a team of 10 developers, this is very humbling. Steam Next is going strong and our demo is still firmly in the upper portion of the charts. Making a system heavy, online RPG with a tiny team in this day and age of friendslop and TikToks is a big undertaking and we're grateful for all the kind words of encouragement. Also, RIP BioWare. You meant a lot to me growing up.

Bryan Venzen shared thisAs we move into our 4th year as a studio, it's so important to celebrate our achievements and recommit ourselves to what got us here, great people making great art unencumbered by process or red tape. No egos, just creativity. We deliver for our partners, even when its hard, we rely on each other and get the job done. I couldn't be more proud to call this my studio. Happy Bday LMFX!Bryan Venzen shared thisYesterday we celebrated THREE years of Let’s Make FX!! We started as a social media handle turned education platform with the mission of connecting and growing artists. That goal acted as a lighthouse, guiding us as we evolved. In three years we’ve become a studio that has six VFX artists, we’ve worked on numerous projects creating work we are proud to share and exhibit; we continue to evolve but our mission remains the same: connection, grow artists (who are rad, passionate and thoughtful). These three years have been special and informative and we look forward to many more years of finding our footing and enjoying the journey. Here’s to the hard work of creating something meaningful and watching it flourish! #realtimevfx #vfx #gamedev

Bryan Venzen reposted thisBryan Venzen reposted thisThe fallen kingdom of Caerwyn awaits you, adventurer! Wyldheart, the much-anticipated new fantasy tabletop inspired co-op RPG, has just dropped its first publicly available demo on Steam! Proudly announced at the Triple-i Initiative, this new demo gives players just a taste of what a full campaign in Wyldheart will feel like - an ambitious game crafted by a small indie team of ex-AAA developers, led by Dennis and Fia Brännvall and Manne Ederyd, former creative, studio, and technical directors at DICE and Embark. Together, they dreamed of bringing the magic of cozy tabletop gaming to a sprawling fantasy RPG, combining the craft and experience of AAA development with the creativity and focus of a small independent team. In the Wyldheart demo, go forth solo or quest with up to 3 of your friends into several hours of swordcraft, magic, and lore. Create your very own hero, get lost in the brand new mushroom themed dungeon, discover the Whisperwoods region, and cleverly combine magic and brawn in immersive, fast paced combat. Play the demo now ahead of October’s Steam Next Fest and wishlist the game on Steam or Epic Games Store! Huge congrats to Wayfinder Studios! https://lnkd.in/dpPFMmmn

Bryan Venzen shared thisSpeaking at the expo was really meaningful to me. I'm always happy to give my time and energy to a worthy cause, especially for an organization that works to give more opportunities to young developers of color. If you're looking to add a high level of craft and narrative to your project, reach out! Our team of VFX and Tech Art specialist will help you achieve your vision.Bryan Venzen shared thisOur CEO, Bryan Venzen, recorded a video on the importance of VFX for the Game Devs of Color Expo. We're excited to share this video because it contains a few tips pivotal to thinking about how/ why to incorporate VFX. The key takeaway: "every interaction, no matter how small, can be informed by narrative." VFX are critical to forging a cohesive, convincing (and often exciting) narrative! #realtimevfx #vfx #gamedev

Bryan Venzen liked thisBryan Venzen liked thisHow to Fish has sold over 10 million copies in 2 months, developed by 2 young developers in Sweden. Dazed Games really knocked it out of the park, and Evil Landfall? saw the potential of the team and How to Fish early on, having provided funding and advice throughout the games development. They've been quietly funding games and studios since 2023, including SULFUR which released in 1.0 this week, and semiwork which went on to make Voidigo and last years monster success R.E.P.O. I'm sure Landfall has played a pivotal role in the trend of successful devs turning to funding and publishing, just recently their PEAK co-developers Aggro Crab announced their own publishing label Aggro Crab Presents. Hats off to Kirsten-Lee Naidoo, Rebecca Lautner and team for leading the way!

Beyond excited to announce that I have started a new job as “Executive Producer and Director of International Business” at rhinokino x Transdyne-anime here in Japan yesterday. Doublecat‼️ is still going strong and some of our projects will be together but with RhinoKino and Transdyne I will be focusing on ANIME. So Doublecat isnt going nowhere and I’m so thankful for their support in Doublecats adventures. I’ve been working with them since I was in Sweden and while we did our first project I got them “Blizzard Overwatch”, but now I am officially joining the team to hunt down more amazing anime projects and make awesome connections. If you want authentic anime from Japan, made by diverse, collaborative, strong pipeline, and incredible talented artists (that have worked on many of the huge animes; One Piece, Lazarus, Blue Lock, to name a few) …. Well… HIT ME UP! This is the place. We want to work with the world ! 🌏🌍🌏so if you need anime long format or short, you know who to call :) On a personally note, it is truly wild to have an almost 14yr animation career and be able to say I’m a Director of Business in Japan. Where I will be for 3 years. It’s been a long long long road: many studios, many countries, many teams, successes, failures, lessons learned, wonderful mentors…. And of course knowing I have sculpted a lot of skills, pipelines, production expertise that I am confident in. It’s nice to have that all connect and I’m honored to have traveled so far. Using more of the language I know too. At every job I’ve been at, I would go home and do a LOT more producing until the night. To get things made, off the ground. I’ve been burning the midnight oil since 2017 pitching, producing, getting to this spot. NOW. I get to do what I did in my free time, full time. That is beyond words to me. 🥹🙏🥹 I went from Issaquah, WA being told No to my first dream to being in Tokyo, Japan making anime on some of the biggest IPs. I can’t wait for you to see. Thank you 本当にありがとうございました。毎日がんばります。 let’s rock. #animation #art #travel #producer #production #cartoon #tokyo #2danimation #japan #animationstudio #anime #moving #animationart #cartoons #animestudio #artist #productionlife #animationindustry #japantravel #anime #japan #tv #film #movie #3danimation #execproducer

Packaged up something I've released for a while ago, a set of 20+ tileable noise textures I actually use. A lot of the erosion in the materials and UV distortion effects you've seen in my tutorials come from this exact library. It includes a tutorial on how I use these textures when building VFX for games. A strong noise texture library is one of those unglamorous foundations that ends up mattering a lot for material and tech-art work, it's rarely talked about, but it shows in the results. Your Spine2D characters deserve VFX that hit every beat of their animation. This is a concept pass from one prompt, not the final look. Every particle, texture and timing stays editable, so artists can polish it as far as they want 👇 🦴 Import the Spine export: .json, .atlas and .png 💬 One prompt: portal burst, landing ripple, hoverboard ride, shots that shatter a boulder 🎯 The AI reads the skeleton and times each effect to the animation, then checks and fixes its own frames 🎥 Record straight to MP4 Not a baked video: every layer rides Spine Boy’s bones, ready to restyle and record again. The same project also ships to the game: 📦 Smart, optimized packing ⚡ Live particle runtimes 🦴 Or baked into the Spine2D file The animator’s call. For gamers and game developers using Blender, nothing kills momentum like a sluggish viewport. When previews lag and scene navigation stutters, you spend more time fighting performance than shaping your world. The VFXnow guide on viewport optimization explains how Blender’s improved real‑time interaction helps you stay engaged with your work without constant frame drops or workarounds. Whether you’re prototyping assets for Unity or sculpting characters for Unreal, a responsive viewport means: • Faster iteration • More accurate previews • Less time wasted on workarounds Check out the playbook to optimize your Blender setup and get back to creative flow. https://lnkd.in/eNVrKnQb #GameDesign #Blender3D #CreativeWorkflow #RealTimeTools #IndieGames

Realistic Mesh FX is a mesh-based VFX package designed for developers looking to create integrated character-driven visual states with higher visual cohesion and gameplay readability. Unlike traditional particle-only workflows, these effects are built to interact directly with character meshes and surfaces, allowing aura systems, status effects, elemental overlays, shield layers, and corruption visuals to feel physically connected to the character model itself. Realistic Mesh FX was developed with both visual fidelity and runtime efficiency in mind, supporting: Mobile, Console, and PC platforms, built-in Render Pipeline, URP and HDRP A strong mesh-based workflow can significantly improve visual consistency, state communication, and overall immersion, especially in gameplay systems where character readability matters.

Gears of War: E-Day brings the franchise’s signature cover-based combat to Unreal Engine 5, with a new level of fidelity. Our team ensured that The Coalition Studio’s vision came through faithfully in every vehicle, weapon and effect. That work ran from early weapon concepting through to ship, spanning VFX leadership and destruction pipelines, vehicles, weapons and hundreds of weapon skins, and cinematic layout and technical animation support. If you were laid off in game development or VFX, JangaFX is offering free six-month licenses to its 3D tools 🙏 That covers EmberGen (smoke and fire simulation), LiquiGen (liquid simulation), IlluGen (VFX asset authoring), and GeoGen (terrain generation) – the full real-time effects toolkit, not a limited tier. The application process is straightforward: create a free account on the JangaFX website, submit a request through their dedicated layoff assistance portal with a brief description of where you were laid off from and a link to your LinkedIn profile. No email required – they moved to an online form to speed things up. The industry has had a rough couple of years. This is a practical way to keep your skills sharp and your portfolio moving while you're between jobs. Worth sharing with anyone in the gamedev or VFX community who might need it.
