We built our WeatherNext forecasting models to help meteorologists and scientists more accurately predict weather — including potentially devastating events, like cyclones. To learn more about how WeatherNext works and how far we’ve come with AI for weather models, we sat down with Google DeepMind research scientist, Ferran Alet Puig, who helped develop these models 👇. https://goo.gle/4zNOBIC

Today, we're launching a new capability to our latest Gemini models: agentic video understanding 📹 ✨ Most AI models analyze videos by looking at just one frame-per-second by default. Agentic video understanding allows Gemini to dynamically process and reason across video files — scanning and inspecting visual frames, audio, and transcripts — to pinpoint key moments you’re looking for in seconds. For developers, this means you can process long-form videos with greater accuracy and less time — using up to 88% less tokens and reducing analysis costs by up to 66%. Start building with it today across our latest models via the Gemini API in Google AI Studio and the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform. Coming soon to the Gemini app and the “Ask YouTube” feature on YouTube. Learn more → goo.gle/4A8cr2f

As summer comes to a close, most of our recent interns are heading back to campus. To wrap up the season, intern Shalini caught up with members of her cohort to ask about the most valuable skill they learned during their time here. Thank you to all our 2026 summer interns!

Meet Iris, a Software Engineer at Google Australia. Since starting as an intern, she’s grown her career in the past decade by exploring different engineering teams — moving from Chrome and Maps to Photos. Like many Googlers, Iris has expanded her skill set over the years through internal mobility. Today, she’s part of the Video Consumption team, focusing on the User Interface (UI) — the actual visual layouts and buttons you see on your screen — to elevate videos across the Google Photos app and help users connect with their most engaging memories. That real-world impact is what keeps her inspired, she says — “knowing that what we build is genuinely useful to people." Her advice for taking on massive technical challenges at scale with her team: Remember you don’t need all the answers on day one. "We might not know the answers straightaway," she explains, "but we figure them out together." Want to solve complex product puzzles with a supportive team? "Our new AI models are 300 times more efficient than those from just two years ago. Not 300 percent—300 times. And while that’s an incredible advance, what matters even more are the expanding ways they are benefiting people." — Kent Walker at the Global Forum on Intellectual Property in Singapore.
