A Nintendo Direct dedicated to the Nintendo Switch 2 gave us our first detailed look at the upcoming hardware, its launch exclusive, third-party titles, and the few optional accessories that players can pick up.
One of these is the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera, which can be used in GameChat and several co-op titles, digitally putting you into the action.
It reminds me a bit of the Kinect in the examples shown so far, but it appears far more entertaining. On the surface, it’s a bit bland, but Hori has decided to make it worthwhile by showcasing their take on the camera with an officially licensed Piranha Plant Nintendo Switch 2 Camera.
Hori Piranha Plant Nintendo Switch 2 Camera
The Hori camera for the Nintendo Switch 2 is shaped in the form of the classic Piranha Plant from the Mario series. It plugs directly into the platform, and the mouth can be closed as well to protect the camera.

It’s listed at the German retailer Media Markt and priced at €39.99. The regular Nintendo Switch 2 Camera costs €59.99, making this €20 cheaper than the official release from Nintendo. That said, this is an officially licensed camera, and Hori is a frequent collaborator with Nintendo.
I’m unsure why it’s cheaper; maybe it’s down to the build quality, or perhaps the camera results are inferior. We’ll know when it’s officially out and there are a few review comparisons.
The camera is one of the launch accessories this time around and is used for the new GameChat feature that players can access by hitting the new C button on their Joycons or the updated Pro Controller. The camera features a USB-C cable and can be plugged into both handheld and docked modes.
Since the Piranha Plant variant has a pot platform as its bottom, I expect this is where the detachable head comes into play, and you can plug that in directly to your Nintendo Switch 2, even if it’s in handheld mode.

Overall, if I were to choose, I would definitely grab the Piranha Plant variant because it’s too cute to pass on. The fact that its mouth even closes is the cherry on top.
