Path of Exile 2’s early access period continues to move along nicely, with developer Grinding Gear Games launching the new Return of the Ancients update. Many changes have happened with it, and they continue with Hotfix 7 and Hotfix 8, and we have the full patch notes.
What do you get if you combine a free weekend of new content for Path of Exile 2? A staggeringly large spike in players, with Returns of the Ancients doing the business. The new content update has meant a few updates, and a whole load of patch notes were necessary.
Hotfixes 7 and 8 have now dropped.

The most notable changes include broken quests, or doing certain actions that would cause your progress to come to a standstill, such as the Hilda’s Great Beast quest. Also, the fixes concerning game crashes and bugs, and there has also been a hefty nerf to the ‘The Runes of Aldur Pinnacle Boss’ skill.’

Hotfix 7
- ‘Fixed a bug where killing Akthi, the Final Sting before Anundr, the Sandworm in the Arid Plains Map would not grant completion for Hilda’s Great Beast quest.
- Existing Atlas states that were missing a completed Hilda Great Beast quest have been updated with the correct quest state. Fixed a bug where the Balance of Power notable could remove Abyss from maps in the Abyss questline if an incompatible faction was selected.
- Fixed a bug where some monsters in Atziri’s Temple were invulnerable.
- Fixed rare bug where required Expedition bosses could fail to spawn.
- Existing Atlas states that were missing a boss have been updated to add the boss back to an uncompleted node.
- The Runes of Aldur Pinnacle Boss’ skill that did two slashes, followed by a large Shotgun of Projectiles now deals significantly less damage with the Shotgun. (This skill was almost certain death).
- Fixed an instance crash.
Hotfix 8
- Fixed certain quest maps, such as the initial Hive Colony, not allowed players to retry if failed on the first attempt.
- Fixed a bug where animated UI elements could appear stretched and out of place when playing on ultra-wide aspect ratios.
- Fixed a client crash related to Hollow Form.
- Fixed a bug where valid passive nodes could not be allocated when playing with a controller.
- Fixed a bug where the available passive points shown is incorrect.
- Fixed a crash that could occur when viewing the Public Parties panel with a controller UI.
- Fixed a one more client crash that could occur while whispering another player while using a controller.’
