Jennifer Cheverie Cott posted thisThis one hurts. I joined BioWare in 2011. When the studio layoff hit in 2025 I was devastated but also hopeful. The friendships and mutual respect grown in the those 14 years remained a blessing. We stayed connected even as many of us were on different teams, we continued to learn together and encouraged each other. Since leaving BioWare, I have had the incredible privilege of working with many talented, kind, and genuinely good humans and I am so grateful for it. Still, someday I had always hoped to come home. If you have the chance to work with anyone from BioWare, Full Circle, Battlefield, or other EA teams (and not an EA team, but shout out to my Fantastic Pixel Castle crew, I miss you!) you are very lucky, they are the best of the best. I'm now open for new adventures myself - and for a bit of a positive take, I'm excited to focus inwards and really hone in on what my next most wanted experience will be. I know it'll include some really amazing people with new and hopefully old friends :) I am thankful for my time with Full Circle, wishing the remaining team the best. Shepard out. ♥️

Jennifer Cheverie Cott reposted thisJennifer Cheverie Cott reposted thisHi all! My contract at Full Circle is coming to an end early next month so I’m now looking for my next opportunity! I’m a Senior Producer with extensive experience across both live service and single-player games, including full life-cycle development from concept through to release and beyond. I’ve learned a huge amount during my time at Full Circle, particularly around content production and outsource management, and I’m excited to bring that experience to my next team. If you’re hiring for Producer, Senior Producer or Production/Development Director roles, I’d love to hear from you. If you know of a team that could be a good fit, I’d really appreciate you sharing this post or putting us in touch. 🎮

Jennifer Cheverie Cott posted thisExcited to share that I'm on my second week on skate. at Full Circle Studio! Happy to be joining some familiar (and new!) friendly faces on EA side, it's good to be back!! /kickflip! A massive THANK YOU to the team at Fantastic Pixel Castle - I can't begin to describe the incredible experience I had collaborating with these folks on Ghost over the last few months. They are some of the most resilient, talented, and just all around kind people to work with. These were truly some of the best months of my career ❤️

Jennifer Cheverie Cott reacted on thisJennifer Cheverie Cott reacted on thisIt's been an emotional month as I prepare to finish up at the BioWare studio and transition back to working remotely. Today, I walked through the quiet halls of a studio that was once so full of creativity, passion and energy. It felt bizarre, yet incredibly tragic at the same time. There's something quite surreal about seeing a place that holds so many fond memories, experiences and moments of creative collaboration fall so quiet and empty It truly feels like a chapter of life's book is closing, not just for me, but for so many of us. I'll always be grateful for the people, the experiences and the memories made along the way. Some of the games may have fallen short of expectations, but nobody can deny the creative mark BioWare has left on the industry. It will forever be an iconic name in gaming.

Jennifer Cheverie Cott reacted on thisThe folks at North Mist have been working in stealth mode for the last year on a brand new I.P. from the brains of Lead Narrative Mary Kirby and Sr. Writer Sylvia Feketekuty, (also I was there too!). Now with the help of our newest artists, we're finally ready to bring some of our excitement to light over the coming months. Going indie is -not- easy, nor is it for the faint of heart, but I will confess the amount of dopamine per minute is very high. I've been getting back in touch with my artistic side, learning how to sculpt, rig and design characters as well as once more delving into animation and working with performers again. I could go on and on like a proper LinkedIn post but... TLDR: I'm extremely honoured to be leading this team.Jennifer Cheverie Cott reacted on thisWe're pleased to announce that Art Director Trystin Rosenberger and Senior 3D Artist Alaina McDonald have joined our team over the summer and absolutely have been crushing the art upgrade of our studio's first prototype, working title, "The Concierge"! A game about Canadian spies and assassins in an office drama-thriller. Supported by the Canada Media Fund | Fonds des médias du Canada, we've been able to transmute audio-dramas into video games... more on that later!

Jennifer Cheverie Cott reacted on thisJennifer Cheverie Cott reacted on thisI’ve never been very active on LinkedIn, which explains the lack of updates since I left Meta in January. But in light of last week’s news about BioWare’s closure, I felt it was time to share something I haven’t talked about publicly: from April until last week, I was the art director of the Mass Effect franchise. During this time, it was a privilege to work alongside such a talented team, with the shared ambition of exploring new creative territories while staying true to the legacy and spirit of the Mass Effect trilogy. Knowing that this work will never see the light of day is truly heartbreaking. We were good at this. We really were. I’m thinking about the team, the talent, what we could have achieved. In nearly 30 years in this industry, I’ve rarely seen a group so tightly knit, so experienced, and so good at working together. And I feel extremely honored to have been part of it. As for what comes next, I’d be curious to peek into my own future. I simply don’t know. For now, I’ll take a bit of time before figuring out next steps. In the meantime, I wish everyone affected all the very best for what lies ahead. Sparth - Nicolas

Jennifer Cheverie Cott liked thisJennifer Cheverie Cott liked thisIt's always bizarre to see a game developer openly shit talking another game developer's work. I always feel like there's a code about these things. We've all been there. Even on a single project, we never really know what pressures and constraints other people are under. So even if it wasn't your cup of tea, you find something you did like (or if you can't, just don't say anything) and move on to the next game. Maybe you're disappointed, but anyone who's worked in this industry for any length of time has more regrets than they know what to do with. And I mean, shit talk whoever you want in your private circles. I'm sure we ALL have at least one popular game that we hate for no reason beyond some hyper specific feud. Either because they did something you wish you'd get to do, or because they came out right next to you and you were always compared to each other, or because some very specific individual you have sworn an eternal vendetta against worked on it (I have at least three of those). But given where the industry is, I'm going to continue to take the advice I was given long ago and, if I have nothing nice to say, not say anything at all.

This is excellent news! The Government of Canada has announced ongoing funding of $660.5 million over five years through Budget 2025 to advance equality, inclusion and safety for women, girls and 2SLGBTQI+ people. At Simply Sweet Games (SSG) we believe successful games are built with diverse teams, inclusive design and broad audience perspectives. This kind of investment helps strengthen the entire Canadian creative tech ecosystem and can open more doors for women and gender-diverse creators, while supporting safe workplaces for all. We’re excited to continue our work to build a welcoming, safe culture at SSG and to partner with, hire and uplift talent from communities that have been under-represented in games. Congratulations to all the organizations and advocates who’ve kept pushing for this. It’s a strong step forward for Canada’s economy, our industry and our community. 🍁 👏 #genderequity #canadianvalues #womenintech #inclusion #gamedev #canada

Edmonton’s BioWare is shutting down after more than three decades, ending a chapter for one of Canada’s best-known game studios. The developer behind Baldur’s Gate, Dragon Age, and Mass Effect announced that work on its next Mass Effect game will also stop. The closure follows parent company Electronic Arts (EA)’ decision to cut staff and close the studio. EA acquired BioWare in 2007. Founded in 1995, BioWare helped establish Canada’s reputation for ambitious, story-driven games. Its shutdown adds to a difficult period for the domestic gaming industry, following Ubisoft’s closures of its Winnipeg and Halifax studios and the resulting job losses. https://lnkd.in/gKySSayG

We reflect on our ongoing journey in building Cozy Comet Games, Alberta’s first games worker cooperative, including hard-fought battles, ongoing struggles, and the potential of a worker-controlled future. Like the rest of the games industry, we have also been shaken by the news of BioWare's closure. We are saddened by the loss of BioWare as a pillar of our game development ecosystem, and grieve for the impact this closure has on the wonderfully talented team who was working on the next installment of Mass Effect. Consequently, while we acknowledge that while the loss of a AAA studio is indeed unfortunate, we would like surface the very real human impact of BioWare's closure. Edmonton and Alberta have incredible talent, and as job losses from layoffs and studio closures continue to mount, we risk losing a generation of veterans whose knowledge and capabilities could be the foundation for incredible ideas, products, and intellectual property that come from our region. This is a wake up call: if our creative industry is to have relevance on the global stage, and if we want the outputs of our creative work to have a positive economic and cultural impact on our region, we need to build supports that are sustainable and resilient. We need an industry that puts human-beings and Canadian/Albertan-owned IP first. BioWare's closure has not been the only headwind that our region's game developers have faced. From 2022-2026, the games industry ecosystem--Alberta included--has been rocked by changing conditions that threaten the viability of old-school business models. The unfortunate thing is that the big, multinational corporations will continue to exist; those who suffer are the talented creatives who are laid off in droves. More than ever, let's find ways to support the people who make up our creative industries. Whether that's transitioning to indie, to another studio, or to a new career, we should be resourcing interventions that ensure Alberta retains the creative and technical talent who have built world-renowned games, experienced by millions of fans across the world. Alberta can be one of the best places in the world to make games; let's make it happen together. Also all of those impacted by layoffs can attend GDX for free. The Calgary Games Kiln invites the Calgary game development community its first community plenary session! For aspiring, emerging and established developers, students, hobbyists, and enthusiasts alike; join us on Monday, November 17th at 5:30pm at Platform Calgary (East Annex) for our first guest speaker – Jason Della Rocca. In the first of these plenaries, Jason Della Rocca will talk about new timelines for success in the indie game ecosystem. Specifically: what is the most obvious and direct path to success for game developers today? There is always too much work to do, too many demands on our time as smaller indie teams. How do we even prioritize and optimize for the greatest chance of success? This session will reveal the most direct path and approach for succeeding in today's hyper competitive game market. This session is part of the Calgary Games Kiln program, a proof-of-concept initiative powered by Calgary Economic Development. The incubator-style program currently supports five Calgary-based, early-stage game developers, with a focus on market validation and commercial viability. Importantly, the Kiln also aims to support the Calgary games ecosystem by way of plenary activities extended to non-program participants. We'd also like to thank Nordicity and Digital Alberta for helping bring these events to our vibrant games ecosystem here in YYC.

Another cycle, another big ol' bag of veteran talent out on the street. This one hits pretty close, I worked directly with a score of these folks in my 10 years at DICE. Plus, little known fact, was offered a job at Bioware Edmonton as well. To see both decimated and long standing talent now unemployed feels very hard to stomach seeing how the actual industry and its biggest publishers are doing. BF6 sold more than any other game in the US, better than any BF before it. And yet, 2nd round of layoffs. But do the AI investments dry up, despite *constant* losses? Do they fuck. It's a dark day, friends. 🫂 Sending support to the affected, cuz there's not much else we can do. 😑

Hey #YEG #GameDevs! I was supposed to partake in a panel for #EdmontonPublicSchools at their annual student AI conference in a panel around AI in Video Game Development on April 29th with two other talented devs, but I’m unable to go now as I’m being sent to #GamescomLATAM over the same period. I’m hoping to help find a replacement for myself at the talk. If any of my fellow Edmonton-based devs would be comfortable participating in the panel (regardless of your views on AI in the workplace, positive or negative) please reach out to me and I’d be happy to connect you with the organizer. This is a great chance to interact with the next generation of prospective game devs and talk shop and talk where you hope and think the industry is going!
