Steve Klit reposted thisSteve Klit reposted thisThis month marks 20 years in game development for me, which I find hard to believe, but… It also makes it feel even more special to finally share that I co-founded Studio Reset with Kaelin Lavallee and Francis Lacuna! We’re a Canadian independent game studio focused on story-rich games built around mystery, perspective, and player discovery. Right now we’re deep in development on our first project, a neon-noir supernatural mystery game I can’t say too much about yet, which feels appropriate for the genre. What I can say is that we’re building the kind of mystery experience we love to play: strange, atmospheric, deeply thought-out, and focused on the satisfaction of actually piecing it all together. If that sounds like your kind of thing, follow us here and on our socials, and sign up for our newsletter on our website. We’ll be sharing more soon! https://lnkd.in/geCcqBnJ https://lnkd.in/gGAvCxgZ

Steve Klit reposted thisSteve Klit reposted thisWe're making a game! We? Are making a game? We ARE making a game. And we also formed a new studio: Studio Reset An independent, Canadian game studio co-founded by myself, Kaelin Lavallee and Kris Schoneberg. Focused on building products that are mysterious, visually evocative and thoughtful, with mature storytelling and intriguing characters. After over two decades of crafting and creating art in videogames and media, it was time to put all this experience and effort into building something with like minded and passionate developers. I cannot wait to share more of what we're working on very soon. Follow us on our Discord, website and sign up for the newsletter if you want to hear more and join us on this creative and colorful adventure! https://lnkd.in/ezkF3eTy

Steve Klit reposted thisSteve Klit reposted thisOur team members working on Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic come from many different development backgrounds. Some were with me in 2003 on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and throughout the creation of the Mass Effect Trilogy. Others have cut their teeth on industry-changing games at the likes of Microsoft, BioWare, Epic Games, Ubisoft, EA, and more. We're united in purpose, with a desire to live and breathe Star Wars and return to this beloved galaxy for a new adventure. Meet a few members of the team with our latest website update, and don't miss the open positions on our Careers page: arcanautstudios.com/studio #Maythe4thBeWithYou #StarWarsDay

We always share with both company and individual permission. We will now limit each support post to roughly ~30 individuals, organized by functional area, and extend this approach to all teams. Our data shows that visibility is significantly better when the group size is kept at this level. 📄 Full list of those affected at Zenimax Online: https://lnkd.in/eK39Ma3K 📌 Want to submit or browse past games org support posts? https://lnkd.in/dg3SjwdC Reminder: every 3 months, Amir Satvat's Games Community offers renewed support to games orgs impacted by layoffs. While I was hoping for a better outcome, I'm truly grateful that I was able to spend the last two years working alongside such fantastic people. To the team: It's been a privilege. Thank you so much for letting me be a part of something so darn cool. I'm now actively looking for new opportunities as a Concept Artist. Steve Klit reposted thisSteve Klit reposted thisAfter 25 years in the games industry, I’m taking a moment to pause - learn some new techniques, and just have fun drawing again. Last week, I was part of the layoffs impacting thousands across Microsoft and Zenimax. That also meant the closure of the project I was working on - a solid, tightly knit group that was building something unique. While it's tough to see that journey end, I’m incredibly proud of the work we were doing and deeply grateful for the chance to build alongside such a great crew. Special shoutout to the Concept Department - your imagination, camaraderie, and creative fire made every day a collaboration worth showing up for. I’ve had the privilege of leading, mentoring, and learning from some of the best in the business. If any of you need a recommendation, a referral, or just someone to talk things through - my door is open. Reach out. For the first time in two and a half decades, I’m intentionally stepping back to take a breath and reset. To explore what’s next, both personally and professionally, in this ever evolving industry. In the meantime, I’ll be focusing on my own creative practice: sketching daily, building my personal art brand, and opening up consulting for folks who might need a second set of eyes on their IP, pitch, or portfolio. This industry has shaped so much of who I am, and I’m proud of every scar and success along the way. Here’s to what comes next.

Steve Klit reacted on thisSteve Klit reacted on thisI’ve taken a few days to gather my thoughts after the closure of the studio I called home for over 22 years. I joined BioWare as a massive fan, like so many people do. Over the years I got to see the birth of two huge franchises, never imagining the impact they would have on so many people. Seeing all the love online, and feeling the same sadness as everyone who worked there, it fills me with joy that I played a small part in BioWare’s legacy. Thank you to all the fans, and to the friends I made along the way. Now, onto new adventures. I’m open to new opportunities in environment art and world building, so if you’re hiring or know someone who is, I’d love to chat.

Steve Klit reacted on thisSteve Klit reacted on thisI started my career at BioWare fresh out of school some 20 years ago. I was part of a group of new hires who were excited to be working in the industry and making games so large that we couldnt fully grasp their scope. We learned a lot during that time, but the most important lesson was something you cant find in Confluence pages, tutorials, or UXR reports. It's what I call heart. Heart is the small details in the writing, art, and design that, by all accounts, are completely unnecessary but give players pause. It's the extra time you put in, of your own accord, to get something just right. Its building relationships with your peers, valuing their contributions, and working together to create the best experience possible. Many people speak of BioWare magic as some ethereal substance pulled from the air, but it was always the heart the team gave to their work. Back in the early days of Dragon Age and Mass Effect, many of us were still learning what we were doing and charting new paths. In essence, heart was all we had to go on. The closure of Bioware is disheartening, but I’m thankful for the opportunity to have worked with so many wonderful people, many of whom have thankfully remained a big part of my life. If you ever felt something from a BioWare game, just know that we felt it too, and we left it there for you to find.

Steve Klit liked thisSteve Klit liked thisI've been busy on the road every week lately, with the studios in the GTG family and with our partners. The journey has just begun. But I am already deeply moved by what these teams are making. The games are at different stages, and every one of them has a soul. Each is the most authentic, most deeply human self-expression of the people who make it. Every time we share this work, I can feel the surprise in the room. It's something they have never seen before, but something they have been waiting for in their hearts. One meeting turned into a fan meetup. One partner's first question was how to make its impact even bigger. And someone who has spent his whole life around great game worlds said, "I've already fallen in love with this project." I believe one day, players will feel the same way It is an honor to work with these teams. Every day I feel a strong sense of mission: to make these games the best they can possibly be. Thank you all for the trust and support!
