Buck is the kind of guy to get turned into an animal. Any animal really but especially one with big wet eyes and general pathetic demeanor

Buck, afflicted by a dark and terrible curse:

NO WAIT

ok now I'm done

fellas I have had several martinis and the most powerful brainwave: roommates era buck and eddie both get hollywood amnesia at the same time and both independently decide that they must actually be boyfriends

assigned dating by head trauma

they get discharged from the hospital and maddie and chim drive them home to the house they share where there’s only one bed and the fridge is covered in family photos and they make the very reasonable assumption that they're in love and everyone's just keeping quiet about it because they don't want to overwhelm the amnesiacs

dreamwidth makes me feel like a baby. did you guys use to blog like this

Yes!!!! And we liked it that way! You could make a post and it wasn't vague! It was a full on rant about your roommate who you know follows you. But you had privacy filters on so only your fandom friends could read it and none of your IRL friends.

You never had to worry about a personal post blowing up. You posted your fandom stuff in communities and your random thoughts of the day we're restricted to your own blog.

Comments! You could have a whole conversation that made sense. Do you know how long it took for us to get nested replies on here?

Community! Not just Communities as in the feature but a community! You would make a post and everyone would comment on it. Directly! It didn't feel like a derail by having something to say and you didn't have to hide things in the tags. And you could reply! And it went directly to them and not buried under 20 other reblogs of replying to other people. You could post fic and actually get comments and start a conversation. I legit think a lot of fandoms issues as a whole is because we don't have a lot of platforms where having conversations like that exists anymore. It's very much just us screaming into the void.

Tumblr was never supposed to become the fandom platform it did and it's ill equipped to function as such. Which has resulted in a lot of fracturing and isolation.

I'm not saying it was perfect or with drama. Just that when the drama hit, it was always juicy and complex, instead of just two complete strangers screaming at each other because of a misunderstanding

Hello! I'm new to the fandom and just stumbled across your "you're already home" fic and just wanted to pop in and say how incredible it is! It is my favourite take on the buckley family dynamic i've seen so far and I'm so impressed by your level of writing. You've written them in ways that feel so deeply like people, not just characters. It has inspired so so many thoughts for me about these gay firefighters and the family we have/the family we choose! I could chew on this buck in particular for days and days! There's so much to say about his characterization that fic but I will not crowd your inbox. All to say: So so delicious and I am so looking forward to diving into the rest of your 9-1-1 stuff.

sincerely, a shy a03 commenter but a big fan of your work :)

Thank you!!! I am so obsessed with the Buckley family and all their dynamics. Chapter 3 will be finished one day I swear 😭

Basically, I don't think there's going to be an announcement that Tumblr is getting shut down. If the pattern we're seeing holds, I don't even think it's going to happen intentionally. I think Tumblr is going to go out like an early 2000s forum: they're just going to keep cutting the tech support budget until something goes wrong in a way that none of the remaining skeleton crew know how to repair, which could be tomorrow or three years from now. If it does happen, it's probably going to happen completely at random, so there's no point stressing out!

frankly (as a former employee; yes again hello it’s me the reason that “female presenting nipples” happened) this is kind of how tumblr has always been. it wasn’t a big team when i worked there during the yahoo/aol/oath years and i can’t imagine it was large under the wordpress guys either. it has sort of always been a weird construction held together by a handful of people who genuinely cared with all their hearts, with the rest being more tech types who never really got or cared to get the user base or its needs and wants. i hear there is at least one person still behind the curtain there who cares very much; it’s possible there are others still left. but i do imagine any demise will be exactly as predicted above: slow breakage, malaise, and disinterest. i think it’ll take time. and maybe it’ll turn around again, who knows? but do make sure things you love are safe and sound.

Folks, backup your Tumblrs, for real this time

To be clear, I don't have any news about any impending doom. But I've heard a bit more about what's going on with staff after the layoff of last week, and there are even less people than I thought still working here.

I don't think even the current staff know what's going to happen, but honestly, I don't see how the high ups could even pretend to intend to keep this place open while virtually unstaffed.
