Yoast SEO has been my go-to WordPress SEO plugin for many years, and I genuinely like how it works. The interface is clear, practical, and makes on-page optimization straightforward without overcomplicating things.
The Premium version really adds that extra layer for serious SEO.
There are alternatives out there, but in my experience they don’t match the balance Yoast offers between usability and solid functionality.
And as a nice bonus, it’s a Dutch company, which makes it even better in my book.

Poor customer service: get the roundabout with no help
While the software usually works fine, trying to get an actual human being to help on a login issue to myyoast is nearly impossible. I keep being told to try a different system, wait a while, we can't help you update that, etc...an infernal roundabout of unhelpfulness. At this point, I am seriously questioning if Yoast is still the software I should be using, when it is this difficult to get help just trying to log onto their own website so I can update a payment method.

I have been using Yoast SEO for quite a while on WordPress sites. It is very beginner friendly and the on page guidance helps structure content properly, especially for readability and basic optimization. For simple websites or blogs it covers the essentials without much setup.
However, the free version feels a bit limited compared to other SEO plugins now. Some features that have become quite standard, like redirection management, are locked behind the paid version. That means you still need another plugin just to handle URL changes, which complicates maintenance.

I’ve been using this plugin for 8 years. For two projects, I tried the competitor AIO SEO, but I have to say: Yoast is the king!
What I especially appreciate is that Yoast doesn’t use pricing tactics like “first year only xyz” and then suddenly charge over €300 per year the next year. Yoast is very fair and transparent in that regard.
It’s also highly compatible with almost the entire WordPress ecosystem.
I can highly recommend it!
