Storage prices are exceptionally high at the moment, with no end in sight to when the cost of a new drive will fall to the all-time lows of days gone by. If you still need to fill the drive bays of your NAS, though, there are some HDDs available that have received small discounts. Best Buy is currently hosting its 60th Anniversary sales event, with discounts across the board on various tech items, but the deal we're interested in today is on Seagate's 8TB IronWolf NAS Hard Disk Drive, which has had $167 chopped off the list price, making it now $349.99.

Tom's gets money from click-through purchases. This is a horrible deal. Price is still over double what it was a year ago. This isn't a "discount". Typical Tom's fake articles as ads.

I saw this price last night and thought "wow how out of touch and ridiculous" then I went to look at HDD prices...

Most 7200 RPM drives are $0.036/GB or higher so $0.043/GB isn't quite as ridiculous as I originally thought. That being said this deal isn't even the best price on this drive as both B&H (out of stock) and Newegg (in stock) have it available for $330 (may be OEM packaging). It seems like moving up to 10TB+ is the best choice for this performance tier of product since it will enable a better price vs capacity even though all pricing right now is nuts.

You don't have to buy from the click through.

This, going direct to BestBuy.com just now.

I remember 8TB being around $100 a few years ago. Since such drives are neither high enough capacity nor fast enough for an AI data centre, I don't understand how the price got so expensive. Could there be some monopolistic price fixing?
