The Resident Evil Requiem reviews are good, very good. So good that they might have convinced you to place your pre-order ahead of release day tomorrow. Evidently, that tipped a lot of you over the edge, as Requiem is now sold out across all available platforms pretty much everywhere.
If You're Not Playing Requiem On Switch 2, You're Not Getting A Physical Copy In Time For Release Day
Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, and Walmart are almost entirely sold out of physical copies of the latest Resident Evil game, with a couple of exceptions. Amazon still appears to have copies of the Switch 2 version left in stock, as does Best Buy, although it looks like, in that instance, it's only the slightly more expensive deluxe edition.
Before you shrug off your hopes of finding a physical copy of Requiem and just pre-order a digital copy instead, it's worth noting that not only has the Switch 2 version been praised heavily during previews, but the Nintendo edition of the game currently has a higher Metacritic score than the PS5 version. Sure, it's based on far fewer reviews, but it doesn't sound like you're going to be sacrificing much by playing the game on Switch 2.
Requiem is still available to pre-order digitally wherever you can place digital pre-orders, of course, as one of the benefits of playing your games digitally is that you don't have to worry about them selling out; there's an infinite supply. That's why we see sell-outs like this happen less and less often as more gamers opt for digital over physical, and it takes a special game to sell out of physical copies across all storefronts.
Requiem And Expedition 33 Have More Than Just High Review Scores In Common
That's even more evidence that Requiem is a special game on top of the high review scores, the highest for an original Resident Evil game since Resident Evil 4 (a couple of the remakes, including 4's remake, have scored higher). The only other game of note that I can recall experiencing a physical sellout was Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
There's an argument to be had over which sellout is more impressive, Requiem or Expedition 33? Clair was an indie game from a new studio that no one expected to perform as well as it has - it has won more Game of the Year awards than any other game in history and sold in the millions.
Requiem, on the other hand, is a Capcom blockbuster from a very popular series that's about to celebrate its 30th birthday. However, knowing how well Requiem would sell, there would have been far more copies printed for its pre-order period; hence, its physical copies selling out before launch might be even more impressive than the similar feat Expedition 33 achieved.
