You're able to swap between the male and female Zero as desired.

Though you'll pose a massive question to the powers that be in Hethereau, the main city in NTE, you'll end up working on assembling a team of characters, called Espers, that play well with one another and your protagonist alike. It's a good idea to build Zero a bit no matter who you end up deciding to play with in the end, since you never really know when the story will force your back into their shoes once again.

Arriving mysteriously and delegated to the care of the Bureau of Anomaly Control, Zero is one of few Cosmos characters in NTE. They'll use a Solid arc when it's time to equip them with the best weapons in the game, and they play a very damage-focused role when on the field.

Basic Attack: Appraisal

Appraisal: Severance performs up to 5 attacks dealing Cosmos DMG.

Appraisal: Break deals 1 instance of Cosmos damage as a plunge attack, increasing damage based on fall height.

Performs 3 consecutive weapon strikes. Leaps into the air to charge, then fires an Esper Cannon that deals 1 instance of Cosmos DMG to an area, with 1 additional instance of Cosmos damage to the first enemy hit below your own level.

Deals multiple instances of Cosmos damage to an area.

Support Skill: Rift Blossom

Slashes through space and detonates a rift, dealing two instances of Cosmos DMG to an area.

In battle, you'll all but need to find ways to build Zero into a DPS and sub-DPS character to make the most of their scaling abilities into the end game, since you'll naturally unlock charaters that are statistically stronger than the protagonist in most gacha games.

That said, you'll seldom find a team where Zero doesn't fit. They tend to synergize well with most other Espers in the game, so you'll find them to be a very handy way to round out most teams if you don't have a fourth!

Putting Nanally on a team with your protagonist in NTe is a great way to reliably charge the Ultimate attack on which they rely. Filling the team out with Skia and Sakiri for a group you'll need to earn from the Scarborough Fair gacha minigame provides plenty of powerful buffs and keeps Zero at the forefront in a DPS role.

If you'd like something more F2P friendly so your teammates for Zero are easier to build, consider swapping in Mint and Haniel instead of Nanally and Sakiri. You'll use the Charge reaction quite a lot with this mixed-element team, but with every Esper on it free-to-play, they'll become quite powerful long before the S-Rank characters.

When it comes time to choose your awakening effects for Zero in Neverness to Everness, we recommend doing so with the following priority:

  1. Undecided Factors, since you'll bulk your protagonist's Attack stat quite a lot and should get the most out of your Ultimate through that as well. They use their Ultimate as their primary damage, so build it when and where you can.
  2. Anomalies Record, since Divide by Zero charges fairly quickly even without Finding the Calling to boost it. The added Crit you'll get here is a powerful bonus to it.
  3. Deceptive Liberation compounds how much damage you deal to single enemies with your Skill.
  4. Finding the Calling will charge your Ultimate even faster than it already does.
  5. Blooming Gaze, since you'll level Zero fairly easily and find most enemies to be of a lower level before too long.
  6. Theopneustros is a great way to bulk up your overall combat skills once you've gotten a good handle on your character.
