Guardians of the Galaxy was not one of the many games on my list of third-party titles that might get the Nintendo Switch 2 treatment. However, it seems like the criminally underrated Marvel game from Eidos Montreal is getting exactly that if a new rating for the 2021 titles is anything to go by.
Guardians Of The Galaxy Has Been Rated For Switch 2
As is often the case when it comes to unannounced games, a ratings board is responsible for this early reveal. Specifically, Taiwan's Digital Game Rating Committee, as spotted by Gematsu. As is also typical of unintentional ratings board reveals, there's also not much to go on outside of the reveal that there's seemingly a Switch 2 port for Guardians in the works.
Devil May Cry 5 Is Coming To Switch 2
Get ready to pull your Devil Trigger on the go, as Devil May Cry 5 has been rated for Switch 2.
The snapshot of the rating captured by Gematsu just has the name of the game, its rating, why it has been awarded that rating, and the platform, which is the point of interest here. Guardians of the Galaxy did release on the original Switch; however, it was a cloud version, so probably not something many people played on the console.
A Switch 2 version will presumably get a proper release, and maybe even a physical edition, although I need to be careful I don't get my hopes up too much here. I am one of the people who heaped praise on Guardians of the Galaxy at launch, and I continue to sing its praises almost five years later. I think it stands up there alongside some of the best superhero games of the modern era, and it's a shame that it didn't seem to have the same impact on the gaming world as its movies did when the ragtag bunch of relatively unknown heroes was introduced to the MCU.
Is There Even The Slimmest Chance This Means We Might Get A Sequel One Day?
I could get even further ahead of myself, and inevitably set myself up for even more disappointment, by assuming that, if the Guardians game is getting a Switch 2 release, then maybe there's a chance we also get a sequel down the line. Very unlikely, but if Eidos and Square Enix care enough to port the game to Switch 2, then a lot more people at those studios are thinking about it than I realized.
This is just a rating for now, and it won't be official until Square, Eidos, or Nintendo says otherwise. Even if it is a Switch 2 port and nothing more, for now, that's a positive sign that we might get a follow-up one day. Perhaps the game will find a new audience on the new platform and prove to its creators that it's worthy of a sequel.
