While Baldur's Gate 3 has had a thriving community for quite some time now, it was not too long ago that the community received the tools they needed to create their own custom campaigns. It is still early days, but partial builds for promising custom campaigns have started to be released.

They're worth it every time.

However, release is the key word here. While I am aware of the very impressive-looking Path to Menzoberranzan, since it isn't playable, that's not going on this list. Because the custom campaign scene is not, as of yet, overflowing with content, I'll also be adding other mods to this list that beef up the main campaign in particularly interesting ways. And no, I'm not talking about Wither's Big Naturals.

Forsaken

An Impressive Start

Baldur's Gate 3 Forsaken Mod

Patch 8 Compatibilty

Fully Compatible

Current Version

0.1.1

Forsaken Mod Landing Page

For Additional Mods, Visit: GGMods.com

Forsaken is a recreation of World of Warcraft's Tirisfal Glades. The area itself is impressively large, and there is a quest to work your way through. However, this is just a vertical slice of a larger campaign that is being worked on.

Forsaken is definitely worth fiddling around with and exploring, but the quest itself won't take you too long to work through. I'll most certainly be tracking this one, and I absolutely see the vision. And hey, if you are curious, why not check it out? Forsaken is free to download.

Paladins Have Gods

The Paladin's Come Home To God Moment

Baldur's Gate 3 Paladins Have Gods Mod.

Patch 8 Compatibilty

Fully Compatible

Current Version

1.0.0.2

Paladins Have Gods Mod Landing Page

This is a super-cool mod that opens up a number of opportunities for Paladin players. You see, Paladins already have plenty of dialogue options associated with having a god. That stuff is already in the game. However, it is largely inaccessible, as you need to take your character down a specific multi-class route in order to give them a god and gain access to that dialogue.

This is an extremely lightweight mod, so simple that it is pretty much guaranteed to never shatter after a patch. As a bonus, it is also available for console players. It really feels like there is no reason not to use this mod if you are playing a paladin. Unless, that is, you want fewer interactions.

Extra Encounters And Minibosses

Extend Your Campaign With Hours Of Brilliantly Designed Enemy Encounters

An encounter using the more enemy encounters mod in Baldur's gate 3.

Patch 8 Compatibilty

Fully Compatible

Current Version

2.0.0.60

Extra Encounters And Minibosses Mod Landing Page

The Extra Encounters And Minibosses mod is among the most popular mods available for Baldur's Gate 3, and it isn't hard to see why. It fills the game with new fights that have been balanced meticulously to provide players with tough, but fair, encounters.

And while there may not be explicit story beats added by this mod, one thing it does include is a creature who will stalk you and attack you multiple times. Growing stronger as they do so. That almost gives me Nemesis System vibes! It is just a very, very cool mod. Though it probably isn't one that the story-first player would be thrilled to download.

Alfira Joins The Party

A New Old Friend

Patch 8 Compatibilty

Partially Compatible

Current Version

1.0

Alfira Joins The Party Mod Landing Page

For Additional Mods, Visit: GGMods.com

The Alfira Joins The Party mod is a true quest mod. However, what it does is allow everyone's favorite tiefling bard to join up with your motley crew. The mod is most certainly limited. Alfira doesn't come with a host of new dialogue, and she won't be sharing banter with your other party members, but it is still a delight being able to bring her along on your quest.

The real big brain move is to then also add the Party Limit Begone mod. That way, having her in your party won't make your adventure a radically quieter experience. While we would love for an official patch, this is probably the best we are ever going to get, so I'll take it.

Patch 8 broke the mod for players doing a Dark Urge run. However, other run types will work fine.

The Grand Theater: Sell Your Lute To The Devil

The Most Expansive Of The Currently Available Expansions

Baldur's Gate 3 The Grand Theater Mod

Patch 8 Compatibilty

Fully Compatible

Current Version

1.1

The Grand Theater Mod Landing Page

For Additional Mods, Visit: GGMods.com

This quest tells the story of The Grand Theater, which has opened its doors outside of Baldur's Gate's city limits. However, while its customers are seemingly having the time of their lives, there is something nasty bubbling below the surface, and it has something to do with the Red Wizards of Thay.

This ambitious project is in active development. However, even in its current, unfinished state, The Grand Theater shows a lot of promise. To top it all off, it has some engaging, well-designed combat encounters that feel like real endgame content. This mod is definitely worth keeping an eye on.
