The Novelis Davenport, IA team is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer. In this position you will report to the EMRA Leader – Op Ex. As the Sr. Electrical Engineer, you will be Solve the Complex Reliability and Power Challenges Behind One of North America's Most Advanced Manufacturing Operations. As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will serve as a technical leader responsible for improving the reliability, performance, and capability of critical manufacturing systems in one of the world's leading aluminum rolling facilities. You'll work across a diverse range of electrical and control systems, partnering with operations, maintenance, engineering, and project teams to solve complex technical issues, modernize infrastructure, and drive measurable operational improvements.
This is a role for engineers who want ownership. You'll identify opportunities, investigate root causes, lead improvement initiatives, and see your work translated directly into higher reliability, increased throughput, and stronger plant performance.
Responsibilities:
Improve Reliability of Critical Manufacturing Assets
Lead investigations into complex electrical and controls-related failures that impact safety, production, and equipment reliability.
Perform root cause analysis and develop sustainable solutions that eliminate recurring issues.
Partner with maintenance and operations teams to improve equipment uptime and reduce lifecycle maintenance costs.
Support the Reliability Roadmap through data-driven improvement initiatives and long-term asset strategies.
Drive Technical Excellence Across the Plant
Provide advanced electrical engineering support for manufacturing operations and capital projects.
Evaluate, design, and implement improvements to power, controls, instrumentation, and industrial network systems.
Apply sound engineering principles to improve equipment performance, reliability, maintainability, and operational efficiency.
Develop technical standards and engineering best practices that support long-term plant success.
Lead Capital and Modernization Projects
Manage small to medium-sized capital projects from concept development through startup and commissioning.
Develop project scopes, technical specifications, cost estimates, and budget proposals.
Research and implement emerging technologies that improve manufacturing performance and reliability.
Coordinate equipment installations, upgrades, and modernization efforts while ensuring business objectives are achieved.
Optimize Industrial Networks and Connected Systems
Support and improve the plant's operational technology infrastructure.
Design and implement solutions that improve network performance, reliability, and scalability.
Monitor network capacity, identify bottlenecks, and implement strategies that ensure reliable communication between manufacturing systems.
Support the increasing integration of manufacturing data, automation, and connected technologies across the facility.
Partner Across Operations
Serve as a trusted technical resource for maintenance, operations, and engineering teams.
Provide hands-on support during troubleshooting, commissioning, and system optimization activities.
Deliver technical training and knowledge sharing to strengthen plant capabilities.
Build strong working relationships that help drive continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Ensure Safe and Sustainable Operations
Ensure all electrical systems, modifications, and engineering activities meet company standards and regulatory requirements.
Maintain the integrity of engineering documentation, drawings, specifications, and equipment records.
Support environmental, quality, safety, and sustainability initiatives throughout the facility.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
Minimum three years of electrical engineering experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
Minimum three years of controls and automation experience.
Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
Experience supporting electrical systems, controls, and manufacturing equipment in a production environment.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while maintaining a high level of technical excellence.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
Experience in heavy manufacturing, metals, steel, aluminum, pulp and paper, chemical processing, or similar industrial environments.
Knowledge of industrial power systems, automation, controls, motors, drives, instrumentation, and industrial networking.
Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma experience.
Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and continuous improvement methodologies.
Experience supporting hot rolling or continuous process manufacturing operations.
