Tripp Purvis shared thisQuantum computing continues to move from research toward practical computing infrastructure. A new paper from IBM Research and the University of Chicago demonstrates an important quantum-advantage result — combining a classically hard computation with a method for error detection and assessing computational fidelity. The researchers executed a 70-qubit, depth-70 circuit using 97 physical qubits and 468 T gates. Using spacetime codes and syndrome post-selection, they suppressed effective gate-error rates by approximately 10x while establishing a measurable lower bound on computational fidelity. The system generated more than 2,000 post-selected samples in approximately 16 minutes — a computation the researchers estimate is beyond the practical reach of current leading classical simulation approaches. What makes this work particularly significant is not simply computational speed. It is the combination of computational hardness, error detection and suppression, and verification — all critical requirements as quantum systems continue to scale. This reinforces a broader trend: AI, HPC, and quantum computing are evolving toward a heterogeneous computing ecosystem. Bill has spent decades working at the center of some of the most important innovations in the HPC ecosystem. In this article, Bill reflects on more than 20 years of GPU support within IBM Spectrum LSF and the evolution of GPU-accelerated computing. Long before the current surge of AI infrastructure, platforms like LSF were already solving complex challenges around scheduling, resource management, and large-scale compute orchestration. Over the last several months, I worked with our board on a thoughtful succession plan, and we plan to announce further details in the next few weeks. I joined SolarWinds in very unusual circumstances, right as the company experienced the SUNBURST security incident. The outlook was not rosy, to say the least, but we had the grit of our team, the support of our partners, and the trust of our customers. Building on this foundation, we evolved, established new standards with "Secure By Design", modernized our portfolio, and focused on customer success resulting in business success. While I can point to many successful business outcomes, I am most proud of the character our teams demonstrated, our CARE (Collaborative, Accountable, Ready, and Empathetic) values, and our purpose of “enriching the people we serve”! These became the basis for the rock-solid foundation upon which our business grew! Our team, strategy, and roadmap are stronger than at any point in my nearly six years here. I am confident that we will continue to further our purpose and keep earning the trust of our customers. SolarWinds is an integral part of who I am, and I intend to stay close to it. With Cullen Childress, Samuel Monti and the rest of our team in place, the business is well positioned for the next chapter!
