Sadly, instead of leading to more affordable tuition, it's likely that more and more workers - especially women - will be priced out of clinical degrees.Romy Newman shared thisJuly 1st is officially here.‼️ Health systems, schools, & nursing students have been bracing for this day… and somehow there’s still so much in flux. 🫠 We’re talking new repayment rules, lower borrowing caps, and a narrow definition of who counts as “professional”. 🙅🏽♀️ Now, add in a last minute court-order to expand the list but a big hint that the DoE is going to fight to keep the original limits impacting CRNAs, PTs, NPs… So, to make sense of it all, I put pen to paper to help unpack all this chaos alongside MedCity News. Yet, the cost of that education creates a massive barrier for students, while healthcare employers struggle with open positions and a very high annual turnover rate. According to a recent survey by Clasp, 70% of surveyed clinicians were turning to sports betting platforms like Kalshi, DraftKings, and FanDuel just to cover tuition and living expenses. It's a mess. Through Arizona College of Nursing’s partnership with Clasp, one nursing student was able to secure her dream job before graduation, receive relocation support, and gain access to up to $30,000 in student loan repayment. For students entering healthcare, the first job after graduation can shape so much more than a career path, it can also have a meaningful impact on their financial future. Around 60 Claspmates spent an afternoon building comic-strip generators about the trip. It was intentionally fun and low-stakes. Once everyone was back at work, I compared what people built in the ten working days before and after the workshop. More people used Claude to figure out what to build. More people created custom AI skills. And what they made became much more practical. Here’s the before-and-after data, and what I learnt running the workshop 👇
