Their questions were blunt: “How is this different?” “Who cares?” She responded as she would at a conference, describing “modulation of the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway via a novel chaperone-mediated autophagy enhancer.” She watched their attention fade. One investor interrupted gently, “Dr. Davinci, it sounds fascinating, but I don’t know what you’re selling or why I should care.” The rejection stung. That night, doubt crept in. Was translating her life’s work into a sales pitch a betrayal of science? She sought guidance from Dr. Samuel Daniels, an emeritus professor with biotech success. He offered a simple framework: AND. BUT. THEREFORE. “It’s not dumbing down,” he explained. “It’s translation. You speak Molecular Biology; they speak Opportunity. ‘AND’ sets the stage. ‘BUT’ introduces the critical problem. ‘THEREFORE’ reveals your solution. Data proves it works—but the story makes them care.” Skeptical but determined, Elara began a week of intellectual reinvention. She reframed every aspect of her pitch, shifting the protagonist from a protein to a patient. To “How is this different?” she no longer answered with mechanistic jargon. Instead, she said: “Current treatments are like fixing a watch with a hammer—they cause collateral damage. We’ve designed precision tools to repair the specific broken gear.” To “Who cares?” she replied: “We care for the thousands of patients with no good options, and for their families. This isn’t incremental—it’s a fundamental shift from managing decline to enabling life.” At her next pitch, she began with confidence: “AND, for decades, we’ve known misfolded proteins drive diseases like ALS.” She paused. “BUT, our treatments only address the cellular garbage disposal, which often fails. We’re stuck.” Leaning in, she concluded: “THEREFORE, we asked a new question: instead of breaking down the garbage, what if we enabled the cell to recycle it? Our therapy, Aegis, acts as a molecular guide—a ‘guided escort’ that safely removes toxic proteins, preserving neuronal function.” She used clear analogies, simple animations, and unwavering focus on the patient. The data was still there, but now it served the story. The investors engaged deeply—discussing IP, team structure, and clinical plans. Elara answered collaboratively, strategically. Hours later, term sheet in hand, she felt transformed. She hadn’t abandoned science—she had elevated it. The storyteller and scientist within her were now aligned, empowering her mission. Elara was no longer just an architect of data—she had become an architect of hope, poised at the start of an incredible new climb.

Thank you for everyone who made this event a success! As a biologist exploring how I could use AI in my work, these are a few takeaways that stood out to me: - The panel discussion emphasized not just what AI can do (pattern recognition, predictive modeling) but how to integrate it into the scientific workflow—data quality, proper annotation, automation, interdisciplinary collaboration. - Panelists discussed real-world cases highlighting how AI is accelerating lead discovery, optimizing compounds, and even flagging adverse effects earlier. - The conversation around bias, validation and interpretability was especially relevant. As biologists, we often trust the “black box” but need transparency if AI output is going to guide experiments or safety decisions. - The importance of hands‑on tools / workshops in AI for biology to build practical skills. - Engaging with the AI community to learn from peers or experts navigating similar challenges. - Advocating for investment in infrastructure (computing, annotated datasets) to make AI‐driven workflows accessible to all for smarter drug discovery. I’m motivated to have more conversations with AI experts to better understand how I can apply this fascinating tool to my research. Made-In-India! 26th USFDA Device-Indication Clearance: Why Qure.ai is the "Brahmos" of Indian MedTech AI 🚀 While the world's tech headlines are obsessed with LLMs writing poetry, a quiet revolution just hit a massive milestone in Mumbai. Qure.ai, a Mumbai based Indian company has secured its 26th FDA device-indication clearance. Qure.ai technology is based on deep-learning platform that automates the triage, detection, and quantification of abnormalities in medical imaging (X-ray, CT, Ultrasound) to assist radiologists in faster, more accurate decision-making. For the uninitiated, getting one USFDA 510(k) Device clearance is like climbing Everest. Getting 26 FDA-cleared indications? That’s building a permanent base camp at the summit. Deconstructing Qure’s latest win: qXR-Detect (K251934). On the surface, it’s a "6-in-1" Computer Aideded Detection (CADe) tool for Chest X-rays. But underneath, it is a regulatory breakthrough that changes the game for every AI founder in India. 1. "Magic" of PCCP (The Layman’s Guide) 🔄 Biggest hurdle for AI has always been the "Frozen Model" problem. Usually, the FDA clears a "snapshot" of your AI. If you improve it with new data, you have to file a new 510(k) and wait months. Qure.ai broke this cycle. Their latest clearance includes an authorized Predetermined Change Control Plan (PCCP). * They didn't just get permission for their current AI; they got the FDA to agree on a "roadmap" for how the AI will learn and update in the future. * Lesson: This turns regulatory compliance into a Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment pipeline. Winning "Human-in-the-Loop" Argument 📊 FDA doesn't care how "smart" your algorithm is in a lab. They care how it works in a chaotic ER. Qure proved this through a Multi-Reader, Multi-Case study. * They didn't just show the AI's accuracy; they showed that a radiologist armed with Qure’s AI was significantly more accurate than one without it. * Lesson: For those of us building in the RA and Biotech space, the goal isn't "AI vs. Human." It’s "AI-Augmented Human." Our data must prove that synergy, not just raw math. 3. Turning "India's Scale" into a Global Moat 🇮🇳 Qure.ai was born out of a local problem: too many X-rays, not enough radiologists. By training on 4.4 million images from diverse populations, they built a "Generalization Engine" that works as well in New York as it does in Nagpur. For years, the narrative was that Indian startups build "cheaper" versions of Western tech. Qure.ai has officially shattered that glass ceiling.
