Paul O'Connor reposted thisPaul O'Connor reposted thisI just finished the last round of proofreading on the interior pages, and approving the front and back cover designs and copy, so it looks like this thing is going to happen. October 15, from Bloomsbury, wherever there are books.

Paul O'Connor reposted thisPaul O'Connor reposted thisDoing my first signing this Saturday, May 2nd at Now or Never Comics here in San Diego- really looking forward to it. After the ZeniMax layoffs last year, I’ve been getting back to comics and more traditional drawing, while also building out a small art direction consulting practice. It’s been a shift, but a good one. A slower burn, but I’ve been enjoying helping smaller teams move their projects forward and carving out time for my own work again. If you’re in the area and want to swing by, I’d love to see you.

Paul O'Connor reposted thisPaul O'Connor reposted thisOver the past couple months I’ve been supporting a few teams as a fractional AD / vis-dev - mostly helping them lock in a direction early so they have something solid to build from. In a couple cases, just getting the visual language clearer helped teams push through pitch decks and early development without getting stuck. I’ll have some room opening up in May if anyone’s running into something similar.

Paul O'Connor reposted thisPaul O'Connor reposted thisFinally! Here’s a thing I’ve been working on for a while, joining the Marvel Age of Comics imprint at Bloomsbury along with books by my contemporaries Paul Levitz, Stuart Moore, Angélique Roché, Chris Ryall and many others. I had a blast diving into the world of Jim Shooter’s 1984 mini-series “Secret Wars,” punching the deadline in the face in time to tie-in with the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe extravaganzas. I’m neither an academic nor a historian but I am a breezy little comedy writer and credentialed smart-ass who made his editor laugh while laying down history and opinions. On sale October 15th, and I’m sure I’ll be mentioning this 200 or 300 more times. My publicist will be calling each and every one of you. I gave them a list. https://lnkd.in/gGuwG_7k

Paul O'Connor shared thisThis is like the Mona Lisa hitting the open market. Companies should be beating a path to Maldo’s door. He’s the best.Paul O'Connor shared thisImpacted by the recent Amazon game studio closures – along with many other excellent developers and projects, including the Lord of the Rings MMO team – I’m looking for my next role. I’m a Creative Director and Principal/Lead Game Designer with 20+ years of experience shipping large-scale MMORPGs, RPGs, and cross-platform titles across PC, console, and VR. I specialize in creative direction, worldbuilding and narrative design, combat and progression systems, live service design, and building high-performing teams. I’ve led design on franchises like World of Warcraft, New World, Zenith: The Last City, Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance II, and more. A summary: - 20+ years directing and designing AAA/MMO/RPG titles - Creative Director / Principal Designer on PC, console, and VR - Built, scaled, and mentored multi-discipline teams at Blizzard & Amazon - Shipped major expansions and live-service updates to tens of millions of players - Strong experience with various proprietary engines, Unity, and AI-assisted workflows - A track record of reviving struggling projects and delivering high quality under tight timelines I’m based in Southern California and open to remote, hybrid, or on-site roles in design leadership or creative direction. If your team is looking for someone who can shape vision, elevate player experience, and help ship exceptional games, I’d love to connect. Many thanks to everyone offering support during these crazy times… and please reach out, if there’s anything I might do to help YOU!

They’re leaving because the books being published for them aren’t worth their time. We still believe that. And a year of data and reader responses has only made us more convinced. Here’s what the first year taught us.One Year of Boys Adventure: Here’s What We LearnedOne Year of Boys Adventure: Here’s What We LearnedRaconteur Press

In this role, Randall will lead the technical strategy and development behind NorBot's proprietary fleet-management and digital twin software. The NorBot platform lets Canadian businesses source, integrate, deploy, and manage robots from the world's top robotics vendors, all from one system. Randall brings 25 years of technology leadership experience, most recently as Technical Director at Skydance New Media, SkyBox Labs, Capcom Vancouver, and Blue Castle Games, where he led engineering teams on large-scale, real-time software systems. Over the past two decades, he has scaled up three software engineering teams, and worked extensively with bespoke hardware, simulation software, and IT infrastructure planning. That background translates directly to NorBot's mission: The real-time simulation work behind game engines is the same discipline that powers digital twin software, and his experience integrating multiple external studios and technology partners mirrors the multi-vendor integration NorBot delivers for its customers. Randall holds an M.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Regina, where he co-authored multiple research papers, and has spoken at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) and GDC Canada. 85% of game studios have dropped degree requirements. So why is it still so hard to find the right talent? 🧐 The truth is, removing a barrier is only half the battle. When you open the floodgates, you get more applicants, but not necessarily more *qualified* candidates. Without a degree as a filter, the burden falls on recruitment to identify "Maker DNA": the innate ability to solve problems and ship products. AI tools are flooding the market with generic resumes, making the search even harder. This is why "Surgical Recruitment" is no longer optional. You need a partner who knows how to spot a closer, with or without the diploma. Is your screening process overwhelmed? Let’s find the signal in the noise. #GameRecruiter #Hiring #GameDevelopment #RecruitmentLife #TechTalent
