Kirk Koenigsbauer reposted thisKirk Koenigsbauer reposted thisWe’re entering a new chapter where AI becomes an active participant in how work gets done. As I shared with Jeremy Kahn in this Fortune piece, the shift happens when AI starts carrying work across tools, time, and context—instead of just reacting as an assistant. That’s what Wave 3 of Copilot is about: agents that can move work end‑to‑end across Outlook, Word, Teams meetings, and data, grounded in organizational context and built with enterprise trust. And with Copilot Cowork, that work can run over time—so you can delegate more while staying fully in the loop. Charles Lamanna brings this to life with four real scenarios in his blog, showing what Cowork looks like in practice. I’ve linked both below, in the comments.

Chapters 1 through 8 are now officially live in Early Release on the O'Reilly platform! It continues to be a deeply rewarding effort working alongside my co-authors Ravi Vedula, Maruti Chittajallu, and Jack Pullikottil to share a practical playbook for making enterprise systems ready for grounded generative AI. We've made significant progress, and the manuscript has already crossed the 200-page mark. We are sharing this Early Release because we want to keep learning from practitioners like you. Your feedback on these new chapters would mean a lot as we finalize the rest of the manuscript. Kirk Koenigsbauer liked thisKirk Koenigsbauer liked thisAfter 27 incredible years, I wanted to share that I have made the decision to leave Microsoft. Microsoft is a very special place full of incredibly talented people, and this decision comes with gratitude, happiness, and optimism for the future. I’ll always be grateful for my time at Microsoft, and I’ll always be cheering for the people and teams who continue to carry the company forward. Thank you to my colleagues and amazing teams for the innovative products used by 100’s of millions across the world that we built together – Windows Live, Office Live, Microsoft 365, and Microsoft Security. Thank you to the customers that trusted us every single day to partner with them, and to do right with the products and services that they took huge bets on for their success. Thank you to the managers and mentors over the years that invested in me, helped me grow, and challenged me to be a better builder and leader every single day. There are of course too many special people across this journey to name individually, but I feel so incredibly lucky that each of you has deeply shaped who I am today. Thank you, Microsoft! I’m excited for what’s to come next. More on that soon…

Kirk Koenigsbauer liked thisKirk Koenigsbauer liked thisSome news, and a lot of gratitude. After more than seven of the most rewarding years of my career, I'm starting a new chapter, joining Microsoft Security to support Hayete Gallot and her team. I couldn't be more excited about what's ahead. But before I look forward, I want to look back. I joined Microsoft as a graduate in the UK, and one of my first tasks was supporting a visit by Jeff Raikes, (one of Rajesh Jha's predecessors in his role as EVP of Experiences + Devices). Jeff was visiting for the launch of Office 2007, I helped with customers at the keynote in London, and hosted meetings. To find myself twenty years later supporting Rajesh with his speeches, communications, and a remarkable variety of customers is a full-circle moment I never could have scripted. We even had a chance to visit Jeff and Tricia at their home in Nebraska for a speaking engagement at the Raikes School in Nebraska! The first speech I worked on with Rajesh was the Global CIO Summit back in 2019! Since then, we've been through the all-virtual pandemic shows and back to in-person keynotes, across more Builds, Ignites, and CEO, CIO and CISO Summits than I can honestly count. The less said about all the videos I made him do, the more grateful he'll be. Rebekah Marshall and Rajesh took a chance on me, and over time, together, the role grew and the impact we had with customers grew right along with it. I've learned hugely from them both, and indeed the entire Experiences + Devices leadership team, whom I've loved working with and respect greatly. I'll especially miss Rajesh's style. Unflashy, understated, but passionate and deeply committed, with a wickedly dry humor. Starting pre-pandemic, through COVID, then hybrid, and now launching and growing Microsoft 365 Copilot has been an honor. The tools I started Microsoft selling in the UK - Office & SharePoint - continue to be meaningful and hugely consequential businesses, that I am honored to have worked on. This has been a professional education like no other, for which I am incredibly grateful. Across continents, keynotes, and customer meetings - often from the back of a van the world over - thank you, Rajesh. I'll miss working alongside you greatly and wish you well as you transition into retirement. And thank you, Rebekah, for believing in me, giving me all the runway and resources I could ask for, and being a fantastic manager and mentor. Now, onward to Microsoft Security🛡️ and to a mission I couldn't be prouder to support: making the world a safer place for all. AI is changing the physics of security. It is expanding the risk surface, and at the same time giving defenders new speed to find what matters and fix it fast. The opportunity ahead is enormous, helping customers defend at AI speed, secure their AI and their data, and reach security outcomes quickly. I can't wait to help tell this story alongside Hayete and the team. Thank you Hayete and Patrick Beeharry for the trust and opportunity. Let's go. 🚀

I’m excited to join the NVIDIA leadership team as the company continues to expand its global AI infrastructure position. Working at Microsoft has been the privilege of my career. I’m so deeply thankful to have worked alongside partners and customers in all segments, industries and geographies to deliver profound and unimaginable positive impact as part of their technology journeys. I am eternally grateful for the people that I've had the opportunity to work with and serve along the way. Mission first, people always. Microsoft and NVIDIA are great partners and I look forward to continuing to nurture that fantastic relationship. np

Kirk Koenigsbauer liked thisKirk Koenigsbauer liked thisThis is why I joined Life360. We are building a product that brings people closer, helps you coordinate with the ones you love and helps keep loved ones safe. We just shipped an integration with Uber that allows you to be notified and see on the Life360 map people in your circle taking an Uber ride. Normally, I would call the person in the Uber to make sure everything is ok but with this integration I can see where they are, where they are going and what time they will reach their destination. That combined with the additional enhancements that Life360 gives you! From the Czech Republic, I can see my loved ones in the US regardless of where they are and know that they are safe. Bravo Life360 and Uber!

Kirk Koenigsbauer liked thisKirk Koenigsbauer liked thisHello from Paris! I have personal news to share, that I am now CMO of Mistral. I think this could be the most interesting marketing job in the world. The next five years will be the most interesting ever in tech. We’ve seen AI become more mainstream and clearly impact how we code, compute, and organize. There’s tons more to come for roles, industries, sciences, and education. So I now get to be somewhere that’s - at the bleeding (learning) edge of AI tech, - taking a different approach from the other major players (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta, Microsoft, Amazon, Chinese open source et al) by prioritizing AI for mission critical environments that need the confidence and self-control to bet for the long term (with open weights and real sovereign capabilities), - and do it while taking a part-time adventure in Paris while learning from the non-US-first perspective. ooh la la! I particularly love that the open weights philosophy and approach lets me learn and discover with the research, science, and developer communities. I do have to thank Anthropic and the US government for laying out why Mistral is in such an interesting position too! You can see a little bit about how Mistral is approaching this for customers differently here on twitter/X: https://lnkd.in/g-3zZnuV Thanks to everyone who has given me great ideas and opportunities as I’ve figured out what was next. Thanks to Arthur Mensch, Guillaume Lample, Timothee Lacroix, and the team at Mistral for the opportunity. I am very excited about this one! (well, other than learning how to use a mac for the first time since college, but we’ll see if I have more info on that one later. For now I have my personal Surface as wingman.) Lots of positions to hire for too - will share more in time.

Loved reading this blog from Tim Bozarth on how AI is changing the way we work. It really reinforces the three patterns of AI usage that companies go through on their journey to becoming a Frontier Firm (human + personal assistant, human-led agents, human-led and agent-operated). https://lnkd.in/gtN855T8

At re:Invent, I sat in on a roundtable with Jeremy Daly and other builders. The conversation turned to #LLM performance. Jeremy mentioned his team at CloudZero uses Amazon #Nova models in production, with tangible improvements in both speed and cost. Today, facing response time issues with Claude Haiku, that comment surfaced with the details he shared. We tested #Nova Lite. Twenty times faster. One-tenth the cost. Same quality output. In a landscape moving this fast, we can’t test everything ourselves. Your community network, which shares what actually works in their systems, is your superpower. That five-minute exchange in a roundtable just saved us days of optimization work that would never have closed that gap. This is the real value of the community: empowering every single person to access the experiences of other professionals. #community #hero #AWS #builders
