Ben Barton liked thisBen Barton liked thisWith much fanfare, Anthropic and Salesforce rolled out this week what, under the covers, could be cynically seen as a glorified MCP server. So, a tip of the hat to their marketing teams, I guess. But more to the point, they’re just confirming what we’ve been saying all along: that AI won’t replace enterprise software; in fact, it often complements and enhances it. Enterprise AI is most valuable when work is orchestrated by established workflows, not by the whims of an AI model. Turning your work over to probabilistic AI and hoping for the best is a recipe for disaster. As I said in what feels like a lifetime ago at my PegaWorld keynote in 2025, “You want AI to be predictable, to be reliable, so that two people whose problems are basically the same, but are slightly different, don't get different answers.” Enterprises want predictable AI outcomes they can trust. To do that, their models need a harness – where the work is orchestrated by workflows, governed by rules, informed by data, and audited every step of the way. AI governance isn’t something you add in after the fact: you build it right into your workflows from the start. There’s no substitute for that in regulated industries. That’s why the death of SaaS has always been greatly exaggerated. Choose whatever AI model you’d like on the front end – Anthropic, OpenAI, or whatever the flavor of the week is. The real value (and organizational IP) lies in the harness behind the scenes. That’s where we’ve excelled for decades. We love that others are finally catching on. (BTW … want to use Pega inside Claude via a pre-packaged set of MCP skills? You don’t have to wait. It’s available today in Pega Blueprint and in Pega Infinity 26, no news conference required.)

Ben Barton reacted on thisBen Barton reacted on thisWhat a great day with Challenge Aspen and my good friends Nathan Gillette and Ryan Burtis Challenge Aspen Military Opportunity (CAMO) put on a mountain biking retreat for 30 veterans and came back to beautiful June Bug Ranch in Basalt Colorado for BBQ supper with Pit Master Ryan. Fly fishing guide Lia Barskey put on fly fishing lessons while we were cooking. Lia is a great guide and guides with me for other veteran organizations as well. If you visit the Aspen area, please consider her services. I may tag along as an extra hand. She is an awesome teacher. She is the one who taught my wife to fly fish. Everyone came back for 2nds and 3rds so either they were really hungry from mountain biking, the food was good, or they were being overly polite. I kinda cheated though. Bison tritip with duck fat, wagyu burgers, beer brats, candied bacon, smoked halibut dip. And lots of other goodies. The halibut was fresh from my Alaska fishing trip 2 weeks ago. I'm grateful to have such an awesome leadership team at HPC Solutions with Jon Tobey, James (Jim) Boutilier, MS, CSPO, CSM, and Christy Wawrzynowicz, MBA that I know I can take time off to volunteer. Time, Treasure, talent. We all have something to give.

Ben Barton liked thisBen Barton liked thisI am cooking for 30 veterans as part of Challenge Aspen Military Opportunity (CAMO) on 24 August. Challenge Aspen takes disabled veterans on adaptive sports adventures, and on the 24th they have a mountain bike trip. At the end, they will come back hungry. We will have dinner on a beautiful ranch setting outside of Aspen Colorado so I came up with what I think is an appropriate menu. I cannot thank Nathan Gillette and the people of CAMO enough for what he and they do for the Veteran community. Chef Jim Romano and I just returned from our annual trip to CALDER MOUNTAIN LODGE, L.L.C. where we stocked up on halibut and salmon for our dinners. It was great to see my good friend Christopher Despain while we were up in Beautiful Pt Baker, AK. Rodger & Sherry's Culinary Experience held a dinner in the past for Challenge Aspen and we appreciate all of your support. I have helped the with fly fishing the last several years but the water levels are challenging this year. So I will be wearing my chef coat.

I hopped the early train to Harrisburg bound for an entirely different conference, but ran into a few colleagues headed for the 2026 PA TechCon. I made the last minute decision to chance a walk-in registration and am so glad that I did. Hosted by Harrisburg University of Science and Technology and The Technology Council of Central Pennsylvania, PA TechCon is the largest government tech conference in the great Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The speakers were fire, the networking exceptional, and the demos were impressive. I learned so much about how the government is navigating AI adoption, and don't even get me started on the swag... This first time may have been kismet, but I am DEFINITELY going on purpose next year! Great to meet Elizabeth Sickler and Valerie Walling from Pegasystems. Always good to see Neha A. and Nicholas E. Susi, M.S., CPPO
