Ann Johnson posted thisTaking a moment today to give thanks for exceptional customer service to the gate crew and flight crew for Delta Air Lines flight 554 (SEA-ATL). Most of us never miss a moment to complain, so I wanted to make sure I made time to pass along a compliment. When I boarded my flight I discovered maintenance working on my assigned seat. I did not think much of it, stowed my bag overhead and stepped out of aisle to allow others to board. I watched as (eventually) three maintenance men attempted to fix the seat on an oversold flight (important detail). After a while it became apparent the seat was not going to cooperate. They showed me the piece that had become dislodged and apologized. The purser apologized, the pilot came out and apologized, the gate agent boarded and apologized. And I was rebooked on a later flight. The purser lifted down my bag, I departed and started to walk to the club to relax and wait. And then … as I was walking away they offered me compensation, of course. The gate agent was so incredibly professional. But the story does not end there. As they were working on the compensation, they discovered they would be able to fix the seat. They kept me updated throughout the process - the comms were exceptional. The attitude of everyone involved was so professional. The other passengers were incredibly gracious even whilst experiencing a delay. Why? The Delta team turned what could have been a bad experience into a positive one for everyone involved by showing empathy and communicating in a constructive manner.

Ann Johnson reacted on thisAnn Johnson reacted on thisBorn in 1895, Katherine Ward earned her moniker "Camberley Kate" after settling in Camberley, Surrey, where her lifelong devotion to animal rescue truly took root. After working for years as a nurse and domestic servant, her journey into full-time animal welfare began around 1943 when she adopted a disabled stray dog named Redhill. Word quickly spread that Ward was a compassionate sanctuary for abandoned animals, leading local residents, police, and council workers to bring unwanted dogs directly to her doorstep. Operating with a strict "no kill" philosophy, Ward never turned away an animal regardless of its health, age, or temperament. Without any official funding or charity status, she financed the care, veterinary bills, and food for dozens of dogs at a time entirely through her own modest means and small public donations. Ward became a beloved, eccentric local figure, famously seen walking up to 30 dogs at a time through the streets of Camberley using a custom wooden handcart, which she pushed herself, to transport older, sick, or disabled dogs that couldn't walk long distances. Despite facing occasional opposition from local authorities over noise and space constraints, Ward maintained her sanctuary for nearly four decades until her death in 1979 at the age of 84. Her fierce independence and unwavering empathy saved an estimated 600 to 1,000 stray, abused, and neglected dogs that otherwise would have been euthanized. Today, Camberley Kate remains celebrated as a pioneering folk hero in British animal welfare, remembered for her legendary devotion to giving vulnerable animals a second chance. #legend #thehistoriansden
